Or the Groundhog....

I have to say that that run is horrible - not sure why so many people line up for it. I ran the 10k one year and I swore that I would never step in there again. I had the worst migrane along with a few of my other friends due to the lack of ventilation with the horrible paint smell. There just isn't much fresh air entering the running area and you rerun the same scenery over and over again.

I am sure that many people enjoy it but not one I would recommend! Hopefully you may have had a better experience🙂

on CT:
i didn't think it would be too small when i first looked - - but now i think it is.

there is a mixture of people who like it and don't like it

don't get hung up on the convenience thing...there are plenty of places within a 5-10 minute drive

my advice is to check out all of your options before you decide...i didn't do that and wish i had

good luck and congratulations 🙂

dr.bordercollie, your mail box is full, so i'll thank you for your quick response here: thank you 🙂

Hello KCUMB class of '11 🙂 I hope you are all as excited as me 😀 I'm not sure what the roomate match list is about, but I would like to start the process of finding some housemates. I decided against CT mainly because of my dog. I would really like a yard for the ol' girl to run around in, and if she could have a friend that'd be even better. I do, however, also have a cat. I enjoy the outdoors and am all about the occasional snowboard/rock climbing/camping road trips. Please shoot me an e-mail if anyone is at all interested (I realise august is still a long ways away but thought i'd get started early). Thanks!

I can't wait until August as well and meeting the rest of you guys. I am also looking for other places besides CT. While being across the street is nice, the apartments are fairly small for what you pay and the bathroom was really small. I think I can find comparable prices with about 150-200 sq ft more room.

I'd love to find a bigger place than CT for the price, but I'm thinking the convenience for the first year will be great. I'd be willing to move out of the area after the first year though!

I'm with you on that. I don't really have the time right now to head over to KC and find a place I like, so CT is the easiest option. Good enough for the first year or so I think, until I get to know the area better.

I like CT. I've commuted over 2 hours a day for my entire undergraduate career and I'm looking forward to not driving.

I second that...for most of my undergraduate (or at least the last three years) I have had a 1.5 hour commute and am thorougly looking forward to the convenience for at least the first year!

I personally won't mind a 5-10min drive, especially if I can get a nicer/larger place for about the same price.

I understand completely. I'm just kind of looking forward to just walking to school for a change.

Maybe you should check out Bennington Ridge. This is where I lived. It is about 10 minutes away...most days...bigger than CT, and a pretty good place to live overall. There are a few other places within a few minutes of Bennington Ridge. You should also check out some of the lofts downtown. Good luck with your home search!!

After sending in your acceptance/matriculation deposit, did you get anything in the mail? Any new information or packets? Nothing has come my way, just curious if this is normal until the spring when the financial aid stuff comes?

so far I've just gotten receipts for the checks I sent in

I payed with my credit card, so I guess I will have to wait until my statement comes in at the end of the month.

Harvey, I've received a calendar, physical exam forms, and an immunizations form. Also, I've received a number of reminders to send in my $1000 before March 15th and to have all official transcripts sent to the admissions office prior to matriculation.

I still haven't received those. So far I have paid $2000 for my spot. I am guessing you only paid the initial $1000? I guess I should give them a call and see if they sent them yet.

I just received a packet of information about scholarships. Unfortunately I don't meet the requirements of any of them!

I received the same thing a week or so ago and I don't qualify for any, but maybe one or two. North Carolina offered SOME loans.

Just curious if you knew what the requirements were off the top of your head? Probably something like 30+ and a 3.7? I am guessing that I won't qualify for any of the scholarships which really stinks.

Actually, most, if not all, of the scholarhips (re: LOANS) that were part of the packet were neither need-based or merit-based. They were dependent on your state of residence, minority status, etc.

Anyone else gonna be in KC the week of March 12-16? This is our spring break at Ole Miss, so I'm going to be in the area looking for an apartment and a nursery school for my son. Holler back if anyone else will be in town during this time.

Has anyone heard anything about the preceptorships available in the KC area? I know that KCUMB has an affiliation with HCA Midwest. I am guessing that this is a fairly good health system since it is the largest in KC.

Any of ya'll know whether or not you have to complete the fafsa to apply for stafford loans and such through KCUMB?

You do need to complete the FAFSA, and my understanding is it's a good idea to get it done as early as possible.

Yes, we have to complete the FAFSA for financial aid. I submitted mine last night. I didn't add my parent's information, I'll have to do that once they get their information.

The HCA system is a pretty big system, and if we choose to stay in KC, which I understand is not too hard to do, then it's preceptor-based and we will be asked to drive A LOT from one medical center in the region to another following a doctor or two during the length of that rotation. I also understand that some of the preceptors can be hit-and-miss. ~45% of the class decides to stay in Kansas City.

P.S. I don't really like the HCA Midwest website. Not easy to navigate, IMO.

Yeah I will have to agree with you about the HCA website. Not the most user-friendly design.

If there are any 3rd/4th years or recent graduates that would like to chip in about their clinical experience that would be great. I guess that is one of the few things that I am concerned about at KCUMB.

I was going to add some of the facebookers and myspacers from this thread, but then I realized I could just take the lazy way out and put my name up. Feel free to add me on any of these or email me; chris snitchler, point loma, [email protected]

Also, I'm looking for a roommate for next year. I think I'll probably fly back to KC this spring and look around. If anyone's interested, let me know.

Good idea, i'm [email protected] (hartwick coll). I'm on both, but prefer Facebook more (not so many shady 40 yo pedaphiles). I got an envelope from CT. I've lived on campus all four years and am ready to move someplace to commute. I'd also like to find a place to perhaps purchase and rent out once I move on to bigger and better things.

Got my physical, calandar, scholarship packet....now just have to send that 1 big to them...definitely on the CC so i can get cash back!

Does anyone have the final estimated cost for KCUMB with tuition, books, and living expenses. That info is very poorly shown on the KCUMB website.

I think it's in the packet from the interview day. I'll try and find it when I get home today.

It looks like it's $54,800 for first year if you take out the maximum allowed for living expenses ($15,705). This does not include the $1500 - $2500 allowed for a new computer.
That's just the number that I came up with adding everything together, so I could be missing something.

That sounds right to me. I HOPE you're not missing anything, as that's enough as it is!

Thanks. I didn't get a sheet with that info on the interview day, must have been missing out of the packet I got. Man that sure is a lot of money. At least KC is a little more reasonable to live in than other cities.

Hey All,

Congrats on getting accepted to KCUMB....its a great place. I'm a third year here, but my family and I will be moving at the end of this year to be closer to family as my wife has our 3rd child during the craziness of my 4th year.

Anyways, we are in an awesome community about a 10 minute drive away from KCUMB campus. It is north of the river, in an excellent school district (if you have kids) and in a very family friendly community.

Rent is income based, starting at $417 w/the max being around $500 (I'm not sure the exact amount as we "make enough" to qualify for the reduced rent). Place is awesome....2 bedrooms, 1 1/2 bath, and a partially finished basement, roughly totalling 1200 sq ft. It is a great place if you have a family as there are a lot of kids in the area. Another perk is there are A LOT of KCUMB students here from which to learn and pick their brains about anything and everything.

Place is available May 1. I know that is early for school, but a lot of students try to live here and very few are moving out this year....only about 6 or 7 and places and they will fill up fast, I started renting the June before my 1st year so its pretty typical.

Call my wife, Lynnsey @ 816-584-2983 if you are interested or would like further information or contact her by email at [email protected]
I will check back on the boards, but do get on often so calling my wife or emailing her would be your best option.

Good luck, whatever you decide

Stan

Packamylase, looks like I'm not the only NCSU graduate coming to KCUMB this fall. Congratulations to everyone.

Congrats all on being accepted to the best school west of the Atlantic Ocean!!! I have been looking forward to this for sometime. I interviewed at 9 schools and this is the best of them all!!! Lets have some fun in 2007!!!
KCUMB Class of 2011 ROCKS!!!!!

Hi, fellow members of the class of 2011:

I placed my $2K deposit down last week and unless I become completely blown away by COMP (unlikely), I'm in, and I can't think of a better school to spend the next 4-yrs of my life. I feel very fortunate. 😀

On that note, I'm preparing my online FAFSA, having just received my pin number. The application seems fairly easy, given that I haven't actually had any income for the better part of 2 years. However, I've read several threads suggesting that entering parent information is advised, since many schools want the information for need-based scholarships and grants. I also read in the KCUMB class of 2010 thread that KCUMB doesn't seem to require parent information and that the scholarships aren't particularly need-based. What do you guys think? Did you fill out the parent information section?

Thanks for your advice.

Congrats to everyone! I'll be at KCUMB this fall too! Can't wait to meet you all.....

Welcome to the last few of you that have joined our class!! Something tells me the next 4 years are going be out of this world! See you all soon... its getting closer!

About the FASFA, I did not include parental info. If KCUMB needs it they won't hesitate to ask for it. Good luck!

I filled my FAFSA out on Friday and called the financial aid department at KCUMB about the parental info. They told me there's no benefit to including it (which makes the FAFSA nice and short).

Thank you both for the information. 👍

Yes, Thanks to the above posters about the FAFSA information. I was planning on filling out my parental financial information later. My FAFSA is already submitted, though.

Also, Welcome spicedmanna!! Hope you end up at KCUMB!

Wow quite a bit of movement lately. That is what I like to see. Congrats to all of you who have recently been accepted and made the decision to attend. For some reason I can't wait until August, but I am sure that will change after the first week.

I visited 6 schools, and this is the one I felt the best about. I'm really excited about starting school in the Fall!

In interviewed at 7 schools, and felt-- by far-- the best at this one.

Oh yeah. I'm a huge college athlete...err, I mean...I am a huge collegiate athletics fan! College Sports > Professional Sports.

Unfortunately, KC is a pro sports town, but Lawrence is close and I'm looking forward to some KU basketball and football games.

Good luck with KU basketball tickets...students wait for like 60 hours (no exaggeration, they camp out) for tix to each game.

Football shouldn't be hard to get good tix. But I highly recommend Chiefs' games. Expensive, but as Larry Johnson (and members of the media) say Arrowhead Stadium is a "college like" atmosphere.
