What happened to everyone? This thread has really slowed down recently. What is everyone studying?

I'm not studying anything!

Have you all gotten your series of shots and immunizations? I have to make an appt. in the next couple of weeks. I haven't done that, yet! :scared:

What's everyone doing while waiting for school to start? I'm working in a Cold Stone Creamery (hooray for free ice cream) and traveling the country seeing old friends. Hopefully I can make it to Europe, Asia, or Austrailia this summer too.

cake batter ice cream from cold stone is amazing! is it still sold? - i know that particular flavor had a run in with salmonella and a recall.

yep, I sell tons of it every day! I'm more of a sweet cream person though

Congratulations! Looking forward to seeing you in the fall, well end of summer! Does KCUMB have a KC Chiefs Skybox?

What paper work do we need to have in?

- FAFSA
- Physical sheet
- Immunization sheet
- Credit check

Anything else?

One more thing, how many tickets do we get for the white coat ceremony? Is it ~4-5 tickets.

When is the due date for the physical and immunizations sheet? I've got to get working on this!!!

Just have it there before classes start up - no definite deadline I'm aware of. Sooner rather than later is never bad.

They didn't say precisely. The cover letter only said that it needed to be in prior to matriculation. The Hep B vac takes between 4-6 months, and then they want a titer for Hep B about a month after you receive your last injection. Did you notice that this packet didn't come with an envelope? Hmmm...

Hey, guys,

I'm working on getting the funds... I've long submitted my FAFSA, and I'm sure the school has it by now. What's the next step in the process (no word from the school yet)? Do I go to banks and try to get the Staffords started, and get a Grad Plus/private loan to cover what the Staffords do not? What's the annual budget for each person per year for our schools and the amount allocated for living expenses, etc. (anything other than tuition). Hmmm..... I've never had to do this kind of procedure before, so any insight would be helpful. Thanks. 👍

I think we take care of everything through the school. Once they send out our award letters (anyone know when this is?) then we can get the ball rolling on our loans. I would also like the numbers for living expense.

Hey I got accepted and am going to KCUMB. I think I am going to be livingin Bennington Appts. Anyone else???? Let me know... and maybe interested in t-shirt...

Hi, I am graduating in May from KCUMB. My family and I have lived in Riverside, MO while I've been going to school. It's really cheap, there's lots of med/dent students, it's 10-15 minutes from school and it's really family friendly. If any of you are still looking for a place to live, email me and I'll get you some more information. [email protected]

I saw someone asking for the match info for the 2007 class, too. It just came out and if you want it, I'll post it. Let me know.

Yeah that would be great to see the new matchlist.

Sorry, can't figure out how to post a pdf, but will gladly forward it to you if you email me. If someone else gets it and knows how to post, go ahead.

The 2007 list looks very nice. I want to say that I am surprised by the list, but after my interview I know why KCUMB students do so well and are well regarded.

That is very, very impressive! Neurosurgery, orthopedic, ENT, anesthesiology, internal medicine at KU, dermatology at KU. Congrats to you 2007 KCUMB graduates. I hope our class can match your success. 👍 👍

I said that I wanted to be surprised by the list, but after everything I know why KCUMB students do so well. Sorry, I might not have been quite as clear as I should have.

Yeah and Gen. Surgery at Yale.👍

Hi, fellow classmates,

I just wanted to let you know that I heard back from LeAnn. She is going to be out of office until April 5th, and she is going to do some checking. She will be getting back to us by then about the t-shirts. I feel more excited than ever. We are going to be attending an awesome school to be sure!

Today in my research lab I talked to a third year who goes to a well respected MD school here in Chicago. We started talking about medicine and I mentioned that I was going to med-school this fall. When I started talking about KCUMB and its curriculum and the clinical education building with the 6 simulators he was really impressed. I guess his school only has 2 of them and when I mentioned that KCUMB had some OB/GYN simulators he was blown out of his mind. It is great to see how strong of a program KCUMB is compared to other schools and only enforces that it is the right school for me. 👍

Hey, Harvey,

Here's what I found on the KCUMB website (emphasis, mine):

Financial aid, as awarded or borrowed under federal or private programs, cannot exceed the KCUMB standardized budget and must be used to offset the cost of the student's education. This means the borrower must live on personal expenses of $15,705 for the nine-month period of his or her first year from all monies available to them, including personal resources, parental assistance, awards, scholarships and loans. Personal income from the previous year, the income of the student's spouse, and the income of the student's parents also are taken into account when figuring the amount a student can be awarded or can borrow.

I am interpreting this to mean that we need $15,705 in addition to the tuition.

That is what I was figuring. It also depends how many expenses we have and how economically one wants to be. But I think the 15,705 included living, books, transportation..etc. I wonder how fast the $15k will go in 9 months.

Just wanted to say to the Class of 2007 on the match results! Sounds like some huge shoes to fill in the coming years. And thanks for posting the results on here; I've been asking around to see such a report.

As far as fin. aid goes, Aunt Sallie Mae has become my sole support. Granted you're living on borrowed money, it's pretty easy to live nicely off what is allowed to be borrowed. My friends and I like to have a good time and are able to do so without much problem!

On a side note, does anyone else get more excited the more you read this forum?? 🙂

I've been excited about KCUMB since my interview day! You all seem pretty cool, too. I'm just excited! ... and nervous.

I agree with you. I have heard horror stories about med-school, but the students that I met at KCUMB all seemed to "enjoy" their experience as much as they could. The match lists speek volumes about the great education we are about to receive. The fact that KCUMB saw something special in us should mean that we will all make it through right?

I am getting some of the schools that I interviewed at mixed up, but KCUMB offers the lectures as audio right?

Yup, I'm really excited about getting started. I want to just dive in and start swimming. Yet, there is still some time between now and then. I'm going to breathe, chill, and enjoy my life and my friends until then. But, yes, there is much to look forward to, indeed. 😎

I'm very happy to be in the class of 2011 at KCUMB, and I think we are a great class.

Spicedmanna and Packamylase, you guys are all over this thred. I swear everytime I log on, you guys are either on or have just posted something. 👍

I am curious what the distribution of traditional vs. non-trads. is for our class. I am more of a traditional student, took a year off before med-school to do some research. From my interview it seemed most of the interviewees and current students are traditional.

Yes, that sounds about right. I remember hearing that the average age is around 24, so students are relatively young and traditional.

I am a non-traditional student myself. I'm over 30 and have had previous careers. 😀

Cool. 👍 It will be nice to have more mature classmates around who have different experiences. Most of the other pre-meds in my college class were immature and I was only close to a handful of them. I think having a class of 250+/- will be awesome since there will be such a diverse group of people to get to know. Hopefully we will all get to know each other on some basis during the 4yrs.

I'm traditional. I'll be coming right out of undergrad. Thanks for the slideshow link 🙂 .

We should have class of 2011 introductions thread or is it too soon for that?

We could just do that within this thread. What do you think we should add?
