Hey guys,

I currently have two acceptances, one from kycom, one from LMU DCOM. I've read a post from a couple years ago similar to this but thought if revive it.

I am from near LMU so like that it's close to home, have friends there, facilities are great, etc. My concern and the reason I don't just run there is the fact that expanded class sizes make me fearful of my clinical years. Is my fear misplaced?

KYCOM on the other hand has a little bit of age on LMU (time to work out kinks?) has a 350 bed hospital down the road which seems like a good core rotation site, nice facilities, and faculty. Rumored low comlex pass rate is main concern.

I know I'm gonna get the usual "pick which school fits you" and that's great but I was hoping maybe someone could chime in with a little more if there is anymore than what I've laid out.

Thanks!

You are right to have concerns for the clinical years. I know DCOM will find places for everyone (or at least I hope they will), but the quality will be of some concern. Having said that, I have been very fortunate...I have learned an incredible amount in the past 4 months of clinical rotations and I am very happy with my clinical education, and I am at one of the new core sites this year. I am also very very happy with the preclinical education I got at DCOM. We are very much prepared for clinical rotations, and while I don't know much about KYCOM, from what I have heard from classmates that rotate with them, our education prepared us much better for boards/real life than they did. All anecdotal though obviously.

Thanks total I really appreciate the feedback. Good to know that the new core sites added are solid too!

Also, what are your opinions on the better school on the following school differences (I'm trying to pick between the school for an ii): 1) Board Scores 2) School culture/family 3) Extracurriculars 4) Location 5) Research opportunities with faculty? Appreciate the help

Put my deposit down for KYCOM based on better fit on interview day and I'm working on my letter of withdrawal for LMU-DCOM but I'm having last second cold feet. So I look to SDN for validation haha joking but obviously a little serious because im writing this. Am I making a mistake picking the school that "felt right" even though a few years ago SDN hated that school?

No. Pick the school that feels right for you. I interviewed recently at one of the schools mentioned and I was disappointed that I didn't get that "feeling". Before my interview I said I would cancel all other interviews if I was lucky enough to be accepted to that school...and now I just want to see other schools even more. You can't help what you feel. Many of the people ragging on kycom have probably never even seen the campus.

Thanks man I really appreciate the feedback I'm definitely going with my gut on this one. And I'm glad to hear your cycles going well. Any idea where you'll end up?

At this point I have no acceptances. I've completed 1 interview (no decision yet) and have 3 left to go. Good luck, and congrats on your success!
