Hello,
Is there any length requirement for intern lab coat? I just want to buy online for my internship and just to check if there is any requirement. I think I saw some where and it says long lab coat but I don't know how long it would be like knee length or something?

Regarding embroidery, what should I include beside my name?

my name, MD
& add
name of internship, or just my name only?

Thanks

No requirements that I've ever heard. Does your hospital not provide coats?

I've never heard of any military programs providing white coats beyond the ones you can borrow from the hospital.

As to what to put on there: that's pretty much personal preference. If you are only selected for an internship at this point I wouldn't put that on there so you can continue to use the coat in the future.

Length: you're a doctor, wear the long one

Why waste the money? You will probably have to wear a hospital-issued coat just like everybody else.

Just like above, I have never heard of any military programs issuing any lab coats to interns/residents. (Actually I take that back, I think NNMC Internal Medicine has at least once because they had a little logo they liked)

And in that case they didn't mandate you wear their version either. The white coats you can borrow from the military hospitals are typically pretty crappy. If you're in a program where you are 'expected' to wear a coat spend the money and get yourself a nice one.

I never said anything about military programs buying their residents white coats. The OP's hospital should provide him/her a couple of white coats for daily wear. You're right though, they're serviceable but nothing special. If he still wants to go through the expense of buying, embroidering, and cleaning the coat then by all means. I just was simply making the OP aware of the option.

Do most people have their rank on their white coat at all or just John Doe, MD/DO?

I did my internship at BAMC, and we all wore their issued white coats. Unless I am remembering incorrectly, it was mandatory, and it came with a little red clip on name plate.

Rank on your white coat? Like 2LT Name? Maybe the hooah ones do that, but I've never seen it. CPT Name MD? I don't know man. I liked being able to tell when I was in deep ****. "First name" = awesome, doing good job. "Dr. Last Name" = I question your judgment/you need to read more. "Captain Last Name" = trouble. Unless it was my company "commander" 03 nurse bitch. In which case the chores and low-brow criticism never ceased.

Maybe it's a navy specific thing, but I've never seen any navy doctors wearing hospital issued white coats. Also agree with above to leave rank off.

Just stick with First Last, MD/DO
