Congrats!!! If you're for sure going, I'll be seeing you in the Fall! 🙂
Thanks! I'm not certain yet because I still have another interview, but I'd say there's a good chance I will go to UW. Do you know anything about the UW scholarship award process? Do we get an application soon for that?

Did anyone else get an email from Ms. Wall on Wednesday (26 Mar) stating:

"We would like to update you on our selection process. Our Admissions Committee will complete all reviews in the next few weeks. We plan to send you a letter via postal mail telling you your position on our waitlist by April 15. Additional updates will not be accepted as your review has been completed."

It sure does suck being on a waitlist when you haven't been accepted anywhere else yet!!!! :scared:
Got one as well. I just want this to be over so I can make my next move, but we'll see in two weeks i guess...

I'm actually not quite sure...I was wondering the same myself. If you hear anything, please let me know. But if you haven't already submitted your FAFSA, you should definitely do so. Good luck on your interview!

I don't think you need an application for a UW scholarship. I got a scholarship a few weeks ago, and all I submitted was my FAFSA. Good luck.

Oh haha oops, I'm probably not going to get one then. Thanks for this info and congrats on the scholarship.

what kind of scholarship $$ did you guys receive? need-based or merit? thanks. does UW even offer need-based scholarships b/c i was not asked to send in parental tax info.

btw there is no application for financial aid. only cover sheets for your student tax return info that you're supposed to send in after you complete fafsa.

I was curious about this too so I e-mailed the financial aid office and there are 30 scholarships based on your "overall application."

I didn't fill anything out for the scholarship I got. I just got a letter in the mail a few weeks ago. And I believe it was merit based (there's no way I would qualify for need-based).

I'm not sure if mine was merit-based or need-based. My MCAT score was not stellar, but my GPA and EC's were great. So, it must have been based on my overall application. They did however mention in the scholarship letter that I needed to maintain a GPA of 3.00-4.00 to keep the scholarship for all 4 years.

They said the same thing about the GPA on my letter as well. Though as I understand it, that it's definitely doable to get a 3.0+ GPA.

There seems to be nothing on the website on need-based aid. If that is the case, the only scholarship money they give will be merit-based aid (probably the 30 scholarships mentioned above). We would expect to pay for the rest through loans, the breakdown of which will be determined by fafsa. Yeah, lots and lots of loans 🙁

just out of curiosity, how much were your guys' merit scholarships for? Mine was 10K/year with the same GPA stipulations--are they all for the same amount, or do they come in different sizes?

Mine was about the same (11K/year). I'm actually OOS so you'll be paying much much less. Congrats on the numerous acceptances. Are you going to attend UWisc?

I'll send you a PM. They gave me a pretty hefty scholarship.

10k/year over here and IS. I think the GPA stipulations are for everyone with a scholarship. My friend got a 3k/year last year and he has the same ones as us.

Has anyone finished working on all their pre-matriculation requirements, like health forms, background check, etc.? I'm still working on them. I can't wait to get that all done and then begin my apartment search.

Just need to finish my hep b series...

I'm just finishing ordering the background check information. I think I have everything else in, though I really should go and check on that. And yes, I want my other schools to get back to me so that I can go and start looking for an apartment...

thanks, i haven't decided yet. it's down to wisconsin and penn. i have lots of family in wisconsin and the price is so right, but i got that gut feeling when i was at penn. i'm going to decide after 2nd look in philly. congrats to all with scholarships!

While at interview day, I got the feeling that they set up the alternate list numerically.

Do you have any idea what the GPA minimum might be? It would be excellent if they offered me one of these scholarships but I'm not sure how my numbers stack up to the rest of the accepted applicants.

Some rejections may be in the mail... I just received mine today. I interviewed on 3/7 as an out of state applicant. I'm not surprised, but I'm still bummed. Good luck everyone!

Anyone get a letter with the alternate list rankings yet?

nope, nothing here (i live about an hour from Madison).

i'm assuming that they will be late with these letters since everything else has been behind schedule.

I have no idea what the GPA minimums are to receive scholarships. I know 2 other 10kers stats and both of them had 4.0/31s. Talooklatrek is a 3.9/37. While I'm at a 3.55/40. So.... I guess you need either an exceptional GPA, exceptional MCAT, or some exceptional combination of the two to receive a scholarship? But that's just pure conjecture on my part. I'm really guessing that they look at everything and give scholarships to people they think are spectacular candidates "overall". I know that Madison is pretty holistic when it comes to admissions decisions and the scholarships sound like more of the same.

You're right, SStorm. I also think that the adcom looks at your overall application. That's what I like about Madison. They're not just "numbers-oriented" like some schools.

>#60, why even keep me on the list at that point?

48 would be nice, but unlikely. I'm going to take a random guess at 27, and see how close I am by the time it's all said and done.

#20...gotta love how they say on the letter that they have accepted through #29 and through zero within the last 5 years. joy.

Good luck guys 👍! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you 🙂

Good luck to you guys. I might see some of you next week 🙂.

I thought it might be important enough info to take the trouble to register. geez, sorry, next time there's a public threat to safety, I'll keep it to myself.

Yeah, because Madison is so dangerous...

So i was wondering if anybody knew how the waitlist works for Wisconsin? I am out of state and I was wondering if they take residents first off the waitlist or do they have two separate wailists (ie when a nonresidents withdraws they take a nonresident of the waitlist)? thanks

They simply take people off the waitlist based on the number provided in a letter they've mailed to you, regardless of your residency status. i.e. the first person to get in off of the waitlist will be the lucky individual that is #1 on the waitlist. Then #2, #3, etc.

I am not sure if that is true, I am a little confused, my letter said my "posistion as a nonresident applicant is currently 4" , where did you get your information...?

I am also on OOS waitlist too. My letter said the same thing as sas1284's.
I think they might have two different lists. That's my guess.

Sorry SAS1284! I never even thought about the possibility of two lists existing. So, I contacted B. Menzer and she stated that there are two lists...one for in-state and one for out-of-state. joy!

bump...want to make sure this one is up there for when folks start getting accepted off of the waitlists...i'm still trying to think positively. 😉

I haven't heard anything from UW.
I am also on OOS waitlist if you are wondering.
I am calling on May 20 to check the movement of the list. :luck::luck:

Has anybody heard anything about waitlist with OOS applicants or the waitlist in general?
