LECOM Bradenton Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For those that interviewed on Nov 23: I know LECOM is supposed to make the final decisions today, but I haven't heard otherwise. I emailed Lauren today, but she hasn't gotten back to me yet. Also, my portal still says "It was a pleasure interviewing you at LECOM Bradenton. The Admissions Committee will make a final decision on your application within 30 days and notify you of the decision".

Has anyone heard anything regarding our statuses? 😕

I am not sure what your question is. I'm sure you guys will hear back soon. It has not yet been 30 days since your interview.

In any case, I always had better luck contacting Lauren by phone than by email. You can reach her through the operator at (941)-756-0690.

Good luck!

I haven't heard back officially but my portal just changed to "The Admissions Committee has not made a decision on your file. We will notify you as soon as a decision has been made."

Pretty sure I have been waitlisted. I am so sad.

Yeah looks like you've been waitlisted. I checked my portal about 30 minutes ago and it had changed to "The Admissions Committee has made a decision on your application. You will receive an official letter in the mail within 10 days." and at the same time I received an email reply from Lauren telling me that I've been ACCEPTED!

What a f***in' weight off my shoulders. 😍 Time to get messed up.

Are you guys from Florida?

I'm sure many of the accepted students will go to another school if they get in later. I was in the Nov. 4 interview too, but got alternate (prob because of my interviewer).

Regarding rotation sites and expenses for room & board; you pay for it.

$$$$$

I'm from CA. Most likely I am going to LECOM, but still waiting to hear from other schools.

I was freaked out when my status changed to the same one you got, however, I received my acceptance letter a couple days later. This was at Lecom Erie but it's the same online portal so you never know.

this question might be out of the topic...but anybody here got accepted at Worcester and LECOM, and still are undecided where to go...
Anyone is from CA, would you prefer going to school in CA instead of out of state school? The only reason that I have not made a decision to go to school in CA is b/c of the expensive tuition..

I would stay in state if I were you.

Just like Henry said, LECOM would not force someone to do their rotation out of Florida. If you find a site that LECOM has not yet picked up, sometimes you can have LECOM's rotation coordinator contact the coordinator at that site and try to get an arrangement only if that other site is willing to accept students, but that's on a conditional bases. That's probably what those students did to get their site in Alaska.

As far as financial aid goes for rotation, they adjust the disbursement date around your rotation time frame and factor in some of the costs that maybe incurred, not saying you will get your fin aid before you start rotating or get twice as much money for that period, but it will be a bit sooner and a little more than it would during normal fall semester. Correct me if I'm wrong anyone.

Check out this thread from earlier this month. http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=775256

My opinion is that unless you got into UCSD or UCSF, it is not worth staying in CA. I'm from CA and considered instate schools. I'm not sure about Northstate and Touro, but if you're deciding between USC, Western or UOP then you're looking at 200k plus debt after graduation. From what I hear, Northstate and Touro are not much cheaper (but I'm not certain).

LECOM is also cheaper than Worcester. But you already knew that.

tx for the info. I am just wondering how hard, long it takes to do rotation in CA. I heard it is a long process in which we have to contact the place and our coordinator. We have totally 9 rotations, dont we?

What is your reason for rotating in CA? Is there a program that is only offered in CA? I answered a similar question earlier in this thread. It can be a longer process if you are trying to set it up just to be closer to family.

In your 4th year you will rotate for 9 months, one rotation/month. In your 2nd year you will rotate for 2 months, again, one rotation/month.

Hope this helps.

Is this how it works?

You get an initial interview because the adcom likes you on paper. Then you get interviewed by 2 of them at a later interview date. When they meet again after interviews, because they already like you on paper is it only the 2 interviewers that decide if they're going to give you the acceptance? They're the only ones who can add anything further since the whole commitee decided your good based on your pharmCAS.

I'm confused...

does anyone know when we would receive the physician forms after we make the deposit.

also, I think we should create a facebook page for the class of 2015, so that we can get to know each other and be able to find roommates.

I hate facebook, aint on it. I really hope the school has a housing/roommate form for me and anyone else not into face(lame)book. :scared:

I spoke with Ms. Somers today, and she told me that they wouldn't be sending out the complete matriculation packet until after the first of the year in January or February.

ok so how are we suppose to find roommates, because I think we are on our own for housing.

What made you pick LECOM B over Nova?

I agree 😎, but need more votes 👍

thanks. Do you know how much time they'll give us to send them back to the school.

Henry,

When do you think is a good time to put down deposits for apt? I don't want to pay for 2-3 mos before school starts but at the same time I'm afraid that if I wait til the last min, there won't be any left?

Thanks

I contacted the apartment complex in June and didn't start paying rent until August. My security deposit was only $150.

I would definitely suggest looking for an apartment a little closer to the school year, but give yourself a few months. Maybe March-May ..ish? It has been my experience that the apartment complex will work with you if you are a student.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

do you know what is the best time to start on the FAFSA?
Also, since it is an aparment rent, we have to pay monthly in 4 years..How is your housiing lease? I think it is more work to find a new place to live for the next year if we have 9 month lease without summer
Thanks a lot for the info provided...👍

Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure you will have until classes begin in August.

We pretty much just have class lectures. We break up into groups for lab though.

Are you talking about the PBL pathway, where students are assigned groups and choose what chapters they are responsible for and self-study? I think it may only be for the med students. I'm pretty sure PBL is not an option for pharmacy students in Bradenton.

I don't know about the PBL pathway, it's just that there have been many pharm program where students are assigned into groups and work together for the whole year. But I guess it's not that way in LECOM...i'm just curious.

Do you have any advice for us to prepare before the first year starts, esp for people who don't have pharm. exp like me, I only volunteer in hospital pharm. where I basically delivered meds. Also if I want to work during school year, am I able to work as an intern pharmacist? I don't have a tech license, and I don't have GED/ high school diploma to apply for the license test, so I was wondering if I should start studying and become a tech now

Thank you, you have been very helpful 🙂

I do it Jan 1st. I recommend that for all incoming students if accepted early.

Sorry I don't quite understand. The 150 was to hold that apt til Aug when you looked at it in June or you went back in August and they still have available apt? My thought process was I'll have to rent the apt early-around Juneish-then will have to pay June and July rents as well. I just don't know if those preferable apt will still be ava when it's too close to school yr. Thanks much.

I think whenever you make the security deposit, they'll just hold on to the apt for you, and then you'll start paying the rent whenever you move in. anyone correct me plz, if I'm wrong.

Does anyone know why LECOM Bradenton is not listed under Florida's university on Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) 's website, but LECOM Erie is listed under Pennsylvania.

I thought they have full accreditation , so how come they are not listed on ACPE 's website. do they have a problem with accreditation?

From my understanding, LECOM is the name of the school. The school has 3 branches. Since they are the same school, they are using the same curriculum, so they do not need more than one accreditation.

I thought each branch is suppose to be accredited separately??!!
if you don't mind me asking, are you planning to attend LECOM?

Yeah, I think the FL isn't accredited yet.

Here's a scenario-

A student is on the alternate list in November....some person gives up their seat in December...will LECOM accept one more student during the interview process now or will they go with the same number still and then take an alternate in May/June to replace the drop from December?

During the interview they told us that they'll wait till the end of the cycle, so that they could rank everybody on the list. so probably around May/June.

Sorry I haven't answered anything in a while, it's finals week. Still, I want to clear this up. LECOM Bradenton is fully accredited. LECOM Erie and Bradenton are one school of pharmacy. Unlike other schools with branch campuses, LECOM made it a point to stay within all of the ACPE standards when opening a branch campus so that Bradenton could open with full accreditation. The same ACPE committee has to visit both campuses before reaffirming or continuing accreditation. The committee recently visited LECOM in August 2010 and I saw them walking around with our dean (LECOM only has 1 dean btw, he flies back n forth). Since LECOM is one school the ACPE cannot list it twice on the programs list. That would imply that LECOM had 2 programs (which it does not). I am not sure why the ACPE lists LECOM under PA. Probably because LECOM in PA came first. I'm sure it wouldn't make a difference if it was listed under FL and not PA (accreditation is a federal award)

In addition, I am certain we are fully accredited because we get the max in subsidized and unsubsidized federal loans and the 4th years have no problems sitting for boards.

I will be back as soon as I have some free time to answer more questions. good luck to all of you guys interviewing tomorrow.

thanks a lot. you are right because I actually emailed the ACPE and they gave me a similar answer.

I'm just wondering that if it's the same thing with Midwestern, then how come they are both listed under each own state.

I would think that Midwestern in Chicago and Midwestern in Glendale are two separate schools that happen to have "Midwestern" on their names maybe? Just like Touro in NYC and Touro in CA.

Anyone from yesterday's interview? I hope everyone had a great experience. Who's calling on Monday? 🙂

Don't worry. I believe that if the school invites you for an interview, they ought to have spaces left to accept you to.

Just be really prepared and shine during the interview and you will be accepted if you are qualified.

Also, note that the school interview people until March, so end of January is not late at all.

I got an email for an interview towards the end of January! but im worried that this seems so late that there won't be any seats left? anyone else have an interview for the 27th? :xf:

I have an interview that day as well. Was originally the 14th but I had plans. Wish in could have cancelled my plans for the earlier date 🙁
