Well.. as I post, your interview day is underway. I really hope that you blow them out of the water and do it right! Let us know what you thought of your PBL experience and we'll all hope that you get in!

Hey guys, I just got to my hotel! My interview is actually tomorrow morning.. but THANK YOU for the well wishes!! I am getting so nervous!! Florida is nice though, its 63F and it was 10F in Chicago when I left this morning.. talk about nice! I will let you know how it goes!
 
No need to be nervous about the interview. It's really laid back. Just be yourself. Assuming you're likable. If not, then be someone likeable 🙂

You should go check out the beach while you're there too. It's awesome, even if it is a little chilly. I was just down there around X mas and it was in the 70's though.
 
Maybe I will check out the beach tomorrow after the interview.. tonight I went to the outlet mall and then to check out Publix, haha, I love grocery stores!

you people are CRAZY!! haha.. the weather is WONDERFUL!! When I got off the airplane and was picked up by the shuttle guy I commented on the weather and he said it was freezing out!! I was like, I just came from Chicago, it was 10 degrees when I left, this is nice!! haha. That being said it was a LITTLE chilly out when I went walking around.. but Id take it over Chicago any day!! But yeah, I think it IS a little to cold for the beach.. maybe I'll just save that for (hopefully) another time 🙂

On a different note - I have been thinking about starting FAFSA application? Has anyone started yet? This would be my first FAFSA application. I got lucky in Undergrad.

Another thing we also need to do (reminder to myself and others), we do need to send all the transcripts. I have sent two then forget about the other two. Yep..for one undergrad, I went to 3 different schools and pre-med at another school.

LOL I looked bradenton up on weather.com and I was like hell yeah summer time.
 
If I remember correctly they only want transcripts from schools you have/or will graduate from. I could be wrong but I'll look tomorrow at the letter.

The weather is great this time of year; the only problem is the snowbirds. It really is amazing how much the population swells around here.

Even though summer is ungodly hot, I still prefer the more laid back pace. The gulf beaches in the summer are sweet.

It's funny. I came down there in mid December with my family to check out the neighborhoods, and hang our for a few days to get a feel for living there. I was expecting god awful traffic...but it wasn't bad at all.

You want to see bad traffic, go live in Charlottesville, Va (Home of Dave Matthews 🙄) Actually Dave doesn't live there anymore, although the rest of his band does...go figure.

I noticed a big difference before and after the holidays for some reason. The traffic definitely seems worse on certain roads and at certain intersections http://www.heraldtribune.com/article/20080114/NEWS/801140399/-1/Help0530

I'm not really complaining - I've lived in Seattle and Atlanta, so I know what we have here can hardly be called "traffic", but the difference here is that the roads are all secondary and aren't really able to handle the increased volume during the season. On the other hand, at least the traffic will get better in a few months. The price of living in south Florida I suppose.

Yeesh...very true...one lane in each direction was really bad. What I can't figure out is: if all these people are here on vacation/retirement, what the **** are they doing driving around town at 6:30 in the morning? When I'm retired, don't call me before noon. 😉
 
OK I am done with my interview.. thank god!!! I was pretty nervous.. but one of my interviewers seemed to like me, the other I wasn't so sure.. I sat in on the latters PBL session too.. lucky me. lol. Well our files go to the committee on Tuesday, and they mail letters by next Friday.. eep!!

ok so I just got an email that my file is complete and they are reviewing it sometime next week (or earlier?). Cross your fingers for an interview!!

Anybody interview w/ me on Jan 9? Have you heard anything yet? I know they meet on tuesdays, but when do they mail letters out?
 
For our interview yesterday they told us our files would go in next tuesday and letters mailed out on Friday.. so it is possible they mailed letters last Friday. If you don't hear by next week Id give them a call, they don't want to tell you over the phone.. but they will.
 
oh yeah. so your letter, i am guessing, should be going out this friday. since you interviewed last week.
 
So did the current students go through the recidency match yet? Or is that yet to come? I'm just curious what type of places/specialties everyone is going into.

First match is yet to come, specifically, March 15.
 
When I interviewed, I asked what types of places they were expecting people to match at. They told me that people were interviewing at some pretty prestigious places (hopkins, wake, etc.)

We'll see what happens on March 15th. Although I am more excited to see next years match...that's the class that crushed COMLEX step I.
 
I got accepted two days ago. Anyone from Chicago planning on going to LECOM-Br?
 
Rabo, Im from Chicago.. but haven't been accepted or anything yet.. I just interviewed this week.

I think my interview went pretty well! I just graduated from UIC in december.. I am guessing you go there? If so, and you were a bio major, I am sure we must have had class together at some point!
 
Do you know if Heather usually calls with acceptances?? Meeting is on Tuesday, and I am anxious!!! I think Id like to go here.. although Erie made me more comfortable, I honestly do not want to spend my life in ice and snow.. so I think Bradenton would be great. Also.. would she call on Tues, or weds? Thanks@!!
 
I'm fairly sure they don't call. I got my acceptance letter in the mail. It sucks because you have to wait. I hope you get some good news.

As I'm typing this (12:15 AM) a cold front is coming through. I just got back from walking a couple of miles and it was getting kind of windy and a little chilly. Yet, I checked the weather and we're 45 degrees warmer than Erie right now. I'll take that any day :laugh:.
 
Yeah.. when I was in Erie I thought wow this is nice.. but then I came home to Chicago.. and it is currently -1F.. and then I thought.. Bradenton would sure be nice.. 🙂

Nobody called me, my letter went to my house yesterday (while I was stuck in NYC b/c of snow in atlanta...wtf).

I got accepted, but I highly doubt I'll be going there. I really didn't care much for it at all.

This is NOT to say that it's a bad school or in any way discourage anyone that wants to go there or has an interview coming up. It just isn't the place for me.

Up until I read this, Bradenton was my first choice. Could you PM me or elaborate a little more on the forum? This post worries me! I'd love to hear your feedback about WVSOM too because both of these are in my sights. I take MCAT this coming weekend (Saturday) and would also like to know how quickly I could anticipate getting my scores back as those two schools as well as nine more have my application on hold pending the scores. Any ideas?

I'm serious. I am out in the West and have no ability to check these places out for myself other than the SDNF'ers who have actually interviewed there. Other's impressions are important to me. And yes, I am about to take my MCAT and am complete except for that. Any further questions?😱😡

I suggest that your "OMG I'm not going to that school now" response to one anonymous individual review of a school is a knee-jerk. You have no way to know if your needs and interests are anything like that poster's. There are years and years of discussion of every school on these boards. I suggest you go for breadth of info over any given opinion.

They shouldn't be. Medical school is way too important of a decision to base opinions on what someone you don't even know has to say. This is a place where you'll give up 4 years of your life and spend $200,000.00 or more for an education. I can tell you from experience that your last choice before you interview could very well be your first choice when you finish. Ask around-- it's a common occurence.

People have different perceptions of what is right and wrong for them. The best rule is to try to avoid any preconceived notions and experience it for yourself. Then make up your mind based on what you think, not necessarily what others have to say. Make a trip there and talk to the students who chose it. They are really your best source of information because they are there every day. Do you think you would fit in with them? Talk to the faculty and the staff. Do they seem helpful and sincere? Take a look at the area and the community. Is it a place you can see yourself living for 4 or more years? I have this strange notion that people perform better when they are happy. There are lots of peple who choose a medical school because of its "prestige" or "history" and are absolutely miserable. Do you want to be miserable? I don't.

You can get a great medical school education at any school in the US. You can get a great residency and have a wonderful future career regardless of where you go, as long as you are willing to put in the effort.

What I guess I'm tring to say is that the best choice for you will probably not be the best choice for someone else. Forget what they say their impression is and find out what yours is-- on your own.

All I am saying is that changing your opinion of your #1 simply because some other person said the school wasn't a good fit for them is not a wise way to pick a med school!😎

That is why I hoped you weren't being serious!

Well that is OK.. I thought I had read about some people getting calls, but I looked through the thread (read: skimmed) and didn't see that. However, I am leaving for Hong Kong on the 31st, so I talked to Annette about it and she said she would allow me to call and she would tell me my status on the phone. I am just wondering then, WHEN to call.. because Id rather get a call first! And if I haven't been accepted Id rather get a letter because I seriously don't want to cry on the phone. LOL. Tuesday is decision day.. What do you think?
 
IMO, it's definitely a good idea to do as much research and get as many opinions as you can about the schools you're interested in; however, it's also important to try to approach each interview with an open mind and really form your own opinion...as scpod said, the schools that sounded good on paper/SDN may not click for you in reality, and vice versa.

LECOM-Bradenton was my 8th choice before interviewing...but after learning about PBL, I realized I could really see myself thriving there. In contrast, my "number one" school just left me feeling kind of bland. Definitely listen to your intuition in this process.
