I'm interested in knowing how you improved your score by 7 points?
My first score breakdown was P:8, V:9, B:9 M
This was after about 2-3 months of intense stressing out and ultimately very little study. I took parts of practice exams but never finished the full thing in one sitting. I knew my low gpa would require a phenomenal score so that only added to the stress. When I received my score I decided that I would apply because I felt that surely ONE school would see the merits of the rest of my app. Wrong. Mind you, I only applied to MD schools because I had no idea D.O. programs existed.
Once the rejections started to pour in I realized that I could not beat the numbers game. I sought out the advice of many different premed advisers. They all suggested that I take up a post bac, or there was no hope. I decided that wasn't something I wanted to put myself through - emotionally, financially. I graduated May 07, so with my classes out of the way I set out to study my ass off during the summer! From the beginning of May till July 25th I methodically went through each subject. I devoted at least 5 hours a day to reading-- i varied my routine from studying just one subject to switching back and forth. To improve my time I kept a notebook in which I would solve random/simple multiplication, division, etc. I would do that in my "free" time. I followed the MCAT pearls advice and did at least three verbal sections each study day (I used examcrackers).
The most important thing I did to help myself was to do all the AAMC practice tests. I spaced them out, but never rescheduled any of them after I planned my calendar.
On test day I pulled off a score breakdown of P:10, V:11, B:12 and a writing of L. Notice I did not prepare at all for the writing section, and it shows.
On another note I'd like to say congrats to all those accepted to the LECOM incoming class. I am excited to get to know each of you. For those of you for whom the cycle has been rough, hang in there! I was in your shoes just a little while ago. You could not have gotten this far if you weren't tough, intelligent and persistent. You will get to your own goal.
