Well in Bradenton-Sarasota there are tons of things to do but the nightlife isnt nearly as good as Tampa or Gainesville or Tallahassee but its not a deal breaker of course.

Awesome. I'm married with a 6 year old daughter. Nightlife doesn't matter so much to me! 😀

I went to Sarasota's own 'jungle garden' while I was there and had such a good time. I even was able to catch the 'bird show' and watched parrots ride bicycles and scooters. This is what I call entertainment

Hey Jal05, thanks for the offer. I'm from Tampa so I'm not too familiar with Bradenton area. I know there has been talk of having a party for the C/O 2012-- any good places you would suggest?

Maybe some of the current MS1's would have suggestions also. I was thinking maybe something outside, like a picnic area, but it will most likely happen early July or so-- and it will be a gazillion degrees outside.... Hmm, what do u all suggest?
 
I'm thinking someone's house/outside...we'll see as we get closer. Alot of the apartment complexes also have nice "common areas" you can reserve for things like this...I believe Yacht Club does...
 
There are several nice parks in lakewood ranch, the main on is about 1/2 mile south on lakewood ranch blvd on the right, there is another bigger one if you go one half mile west on sr 70 from lakewood ranch blvd and turn right into the next lwr subdivision and then follow the road back a little and its on the left. they have a dog park, hockey rink, some trails and gazebos and such.

The SGA will definitely organize a picnic a few days before school starts or during orientation week, although our class met unofficially a few times before school started. Applebee's on 70 was the usual watering hole.

Keep your eyes on the SGA website; I'm sure there'll be some get-togethers before the madness begins...

Kate, I have a bunch of houses and condos that this great real estate agent that I found has been sending to me, they are right in LWR and alot of them are fabulous, I could forward them on for you if you are interested?

It could be at my house.....but I haven't gotten accepted yet, and I don't have a house yet....but if......

Thanks, when I was there Annette gave me the card for her realtor, so once that we know where my husband has a job, we're going to start looking between LECOM and his work. That and we have to sell our house here! If this one dosn't sell we may just stay in am appartment until it does because I really don't want to carry 2 mortgages.

And... today's the day that they meet! Are you going to call them tomorrow?? (maybe they'll just call you!)

I talked with Heather yesterday and explained that I had interviews next week so it would be helpful if I could know as soon as possible and she said that was no problem and for me to call June tomorrow. So good vibes today everyone!!

ahhh...thank, I hope his friends don't split :laugh: (I"m sorry, I'm stressed, I'm apt to lame jokes when the cortisol levels are hight, sad really)

I keep thinking "they are meeting right now, my fate is being determined"

I live pretty far away too. 14 hour drive! I flew down for my interview alone but brought the camera so the family could see the area. At Christmas break we drove down and spent about a week there just to get a better feel for what the daily grind might be like.

We're a little worried about the constant hotness. I hate the cold though so at least that's something.

I've also seen that Florida is pretty bad for allergy sufferers. Can any current Florida residents weigh in on their pollen allergy experience in Bradenton?

Actually temp wise right now, it is not bad...it'll be in the 70s the next week. Allergies have been bad this year, something I have been finding myself being more affected by as I am getting older.

It's not just the heat, but the humidity that is the trial. But with most places having central air, it's not quite as bad as it can get during summers further up north that have more of the window ACs (or none at all!).

When I was there I thought the weather was perfect and my allergies improved, but then again I live in oregon land of mold

I looked up the weather data and found the average humidity is lower than it is up here on the mideast coast...go figure.

And, I too found my allergies lower there...weird.

I haven't gotten an acceptance yet. I interviewed at 7 schools: rejected from TUCOM CA and SOMA, waitlisted at LECOM Bradenton, and waiting to hear back from WVSOM, TUCOM NV, LECOM Erie, and NSUCOM. If I don't get in this year, there is always next year. I am not going to beat myself to the pulp by worrying. I have been through too many life experiences that a year wouldn't hurt. I am still in my early 20's.

Anyway, good luck Laura. I wish you the very best of luck.
 
ok, I called, she was on another line so I left a voice mail. So now I will just stare at my phone intensely until I hear back....this is tedious:scared:
 
just give another call back.. they may not check their voice mails right away!
 
I got a weird letter from Erie yesterday that they are no longer considering my application because I sent a deposit to Bradenton (I was on the alternate list there). I sent them a letter to remove me from the waitlist last month, so I don't particularly care, but what if Erie were my first choice? They don't let you send a deposit to one school and wait for an acceptance from the other?

Weird. I got an interview from Erie, but didn't go because I had been accepted by Bradenton and knew I would choose there over Erie.

That's messed up though...They could be losing money that way...
