LECOM - Bradenton Discussion thread 2007-2008

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Laura-- beat you to the top of the 38th page!

Also, I would say there are at least 4 other pretty girls that you all are not mentioning (names removed since I don't know if they post on this thread).

Yes, lots of hot gals, just to make me look bad! That's ok, one day when I'm a doctor I will be able to afford that plastic surgery, hell maybe I'll just go into plastics and have a partner do some work on me.

So Kate, did you hire a model to stand it 'as you' in all of your facebook pics? If so, props, she does a wonderful job, interacting with the family and all, and so beautiful!

I received the same exact email DrMidlife... more waiting. So are they in the process of making an entire new list?

I'm telling you guys, this new list may bring some great hope yet! We still have 2 months to go and I'm sure there are many waiting to get in elsewhere who may have already sent in their deposits... although I don't know why. 😀

Ahem, I mean, who wants to go to LECOM-B? I hear all the new students there are snotty... and ugly. 👎

OMG, SO TRUE! They post on here all the time and they're so annoying with their "I'm going to LECOM-B! BlahBlahBlah!" comments! And their really UGLY. Especially that Fabu1ous!

J/K. I love you guys! You're all so much help and encouraging! 😀

And...to all the fellow waitlisters: I got the same letter as well. I've decided that we're all so great they just can't decide between us. Hopefully they'll just let us all in because we're all so HOT!

My 2 cents!!!!

Somebody say something; the silence is deafening. that and I just feel like putting this thread back on top (where it belongs).

ok, I'll give you all a topic and you can discuss

LauraDO is the coolest, most awsome-est, chick in the class of 2012. Discuss all the things that you love about LauraDO. Extra points for bringing in words such as "superior", "majestic", etc.

Ok, go.....😍

It's her selflessness, her self-deprecating and gentle humor, but most of all, her humility.

concur, "ultimate awsomeness" nuff said. next topic.

I've had hip surgery...can anyone top that?

Tara Lipinski had that at age 18. And she has a gold medal so I think she wins.

I was born 2 months before the Beatles' last US performance. Before LBJ announced he wouldn't seek a 2nd term. Before the FDA allowed the pill to be prescribed to unmarried women.

Museum quality, really.

My dad marched in Kenndy's inarguragation

I've been hospitalized 4 times

hmmm....what else.........

I would say my joints are worse off, but marathon I would guess has me beat on that one

I still think "hip surgery" makes a good sound byte in a geezer contest, but the dude must abide by your compelling counter-argument. I'll add that you would make an excellent trivial pursuit teammate. have to sign of for the night...we'll have to spar again tomorrow.

your dad may qualify for this contest, but I'm afraid you don't get credit for that. Nighty noodle kiddo:laugh:

If you're the Laura I saw on the Facebook page, I'll definitely say cuter. 😍

I turn 34 in June...and I have high mileage.

I'll be 34 in September, and I'll have high mileage after this commute to Bradenton from Seffner every day. High gas prices? What's that? 😀

So I was thinking... the adcoms should be meeting maybe earlier today? Either way, I think next week will be very interesting for you guys, I am really hoping and praying for the best!

So, here's to the adcom discussing all of your fabulousness,

Bah. Instead of thinking about your age, think about how much fun we're gonna have. Well, fun intertwined with the crying, sobbing, and immense studying that we'll have to do.

Honestly, though, you ladies aren't "old" at all. In fact, from what I've read here all I see is a bunch of people young at heart. I wouldn't have assumed that any of you were any older than 25 or 26 at the most. People who are young at heart keep the world going. Never forget that.

Yeah, we are going to have to have a "Class of 2012 Beach Day" once everyone gets moved down to B-town. I went to Siesta Key over Memorial Day weekend (about 15-20 minutes from school), and I'm telling you...it just doesn't get much better than that. Beautiful beach & amazing water.😍

Yep. That's the party I was trying to plan. I actually gave up on "planning" it because nobody really seemed all that excited for the plan. I was going to make a Facebook event and invite everyone to it sometime in July. We're gonna use Kate's idea of BYOB. You all can go whenever you'd like, but I'm probably going to make the event for the afternoon of July 23 or thereabouts. Any objections?

Oh man. Don't even get me started on feeling old! I'm only 25 but after being free from school for a year and a half I really was starting to appreciate those no-brainer days if you know what I mean. I don't know how I'm going to make myself sit down and study anatomy 10 hours a day! I have trouble concentrating on reading a book I want to read for more than an hour, and I LOVE to read. Sometimes I feel I should be eligible for senior citizen discounts (and with Florida housing prices, wouldn't that be nice! At least getting old gets us that. Those 55+ers get all the breaks!) I told my fiance he has to work an opposite shift from my school schedule so he doesn't distract me from my studies. Haha! And the best thing is that my memory is going. I don't know how I got through Undergrad... I cooked bacon for three hours last week, but on the bright side I do like it extra crispy. I think we'll definitely have to designate a place for a study group a couple nights a week, because I'm going to need all the motivation I can get!

That's great! You should (and everyone should) join the group of us that chats regularly on AIM. We are all great to get along with and we all plan on working in study groups as often as time permits. The regulars consist of 2 guys (me included) and 3 girls, but we're always looking for more people to get to know!

And bacon is addicting.

Lumas, I know you mean well, but I think the plans you were doing were sooo detailed (with lists, and RSVP's, etc. --people have so many choices, this need not be one more thing to worry about). We should keep it simple and not reinvent the wheel. Where did our upperclassmates meet? I'm sure they know a great spot. Give everyone a day (July 23rd sounds great), let them know where it's going to be, and if they can come, what to bring (lounge chair, suntain lotion, grab a pizza or bring a dish, whatever).

And then we just spread the word, not only on facebook, because everyone doesn't have an acct, but also post here and on SGA. :hardy:

Siesta Key is beautiful. I can't remember if it's off of Anna Maria Island though--- Coquina Beach is beautiful, too (on Anna Maria). It sounds like you had a great time! 😎

no contest (I did wear short shorts for racing, but I have to draw the line there)

I really tried to find LECOM-B's facebook address but I can't seem to find it. And my work network is gonna be shut down in an hour. I have to sign up first but what is the address of our class of 2012 facebook?

Also, I know July 28th is our orientation, but don't we also have to go to the campus on July 23rd to get our ID and few other things done? If anyone could provide a little detail info, that would be very helpful.

Congrats Amanda on your acceptance.

Thanks!

I think the "Pre-Orientation Orientation" event where we get our IDs, computers checked out, etc happens from the 23rd to the 25th. Then I think that the 28th starts Orientation and the 31st is classes. That's what I think I remember.

EDIT: I think between the 23rd and 25th you can go in at anytime to get your stuff done, but don't quote me on that. I talked to Heather the other day, she said we would get some information around June 1 (well, sometime next week probably) because they're busy with graduation and whatnot. She said they're swamped.. let me find the email..

"I am so sorry that it took me so long to get back to you, I have been out for a few days....As far as the transcripts go, Annette will be going over all that information and sending updates after Commencement on June 8th. Right now we are waist deep in caps and gowns and diplomas for our first graduation activities and planning and such. We are so excited!!! I promise she will let you know when the graduation madness is done. Thanks again for your patience!"

There ya go. That's all I got. So probably not next week, but the week after.

I think we should maybe have a beach day sometime in July before the 23rd (because we start having to go to school and get our ID's and stuff around then). I think maybe the 17th (Saturday) or 18th (Sunday) would be good, too. Also, I believe the Class of 2011 is going to have a little party for us, as well..called "Osteoblast" or something. I'm not sure when that is, but I will definitely let you guys know when I find out. 🙂

Whatever you want to do is fine. I picked the 23rd because it seems like a lot of people are moving down around the 17th to the 20th and I figured people would want to spend time with their family members, especially those of the younger 22-25 year old crowd. Up to you. You're more than welcome to have it whenever you'd like. I'm honestly just washing my hands of the entire party because, as I've said on the SGA, my overzealous nature was thwarted by too much organization.

Have at it.

I just came back from Bradenton, what an amazing town! Beautiful beaches, soft white sand that's like salt (literally), even Hawaii has rougher sands! I got a place to live (SunChase Apts). I know it's about a 30 min drive, but my boyfriend also works in Bradenton and we want to be close to everything. Plus, SunChase just gives us a really good deal. For the two of us with a two bedroom apartments, all the other ones the students suggested are just too expensive! Anyway, some reviews (my own opinion):

Carlton Arms - beautiful outdoors, HUGE complex (you will get lost in there, it's like 600 apartments all together), nice view of the lake (especially from the pool), downside: everything inside is old, and not updated; kinda pricey for what they offer (the apt the lady showed us smelled like cat pee); don't allow dogs over 30lbs (?, can't remember).

Springs at Braden River - Nice complex with condo style apartments, new amenities like workout facilities, pool, etc, everything inside is new (the place is only 6 yrs old), downside: expensive for a 1BR or 2BR, some of the floorplans have weird shaped bedrooms that are not exactly squary, so you can't fit a big bed in it (we have king), it's gated, but people from next door Woodbury, which is a subsidized apartment can roam around within the "gated" area since they share a tennis court and running track. Here's how I look at it, it's a probability thing, anywhere you live, it's gonna have problems with drama people calling the cops once in a blue moon, but if you live close to ghetto people, that probability gets higher. That's all. But I was very impressed with Springs at Braden River for what they are offering. Right now it's $100 off rent.

I did not look at Colonial Grand at Lakewood Ranch and Heritage Harbor (which both are expensive in the 2BR range) because they do not allow my dog in there (she is part rottweiler, which is a restricted breed). Most apartments restrict dog breeds because of insurance reasons, the breeds are: rottweilers, pit bulls, dobermans, chow chows, and saint bernards (that's a surprise for me). Also most of them have a weight restriction also, generally around 30-40lbs. My old pug would be just fine there! 😉 But I don't have her anymore.

I would prefer to live closer, but for my happy fat doggie and my boyfriend, I can live farther. Plus, I'm 1 minute from Blake medical center, which is one of the rotation sites anyway right? Once you start doing rotations in 3rd year, I wouldn't think living close to school matters that much anymore anyway. Either way, wherever you live in Bradenton, the place is the size of a palm anyway. I am already getting used to driving on 64 and 301 from and to the school (drove around a lot when I was there).

Anyway, regarding apartment hunting, don't be afraid to negotiate with them. Right now EVERYBODY is doing specials, which means they are desperate for tenants. We negotiated $10/month cheaper for my boyfriend's jetski storage. Just tell them: "Well, this other place gave me this much, but I'd rather live here, so can you match them? I will sign the lease today!"

Good luck everybody!

Oh regarding the party, I am moving down on July 19th, so the first few days of the week, partying is not a good option. I know 23rd - 25th we go into school, but what about 25th, Friday night? Nobody should be doing anything then, or the next day! We can make it at around 3-4pm, and the party goes until whenever! I went to this good restaurant called SandBar on Anna Maria island that's right on the beach, and I saw people standing around the restaurant on the sand drinking and no one said anything about public intoxication (people were pretty chill down there!) We can do it around there so if we cannot party on the beach, we will just move right over to the restaurant deck! I'd personally like to see who's the biggest partier out of our class! Haha... :horns:😛

Mona,

That was so nice of you to include those reviews! Thanks!
