Definitely keep the get-together planning as light as possible. You don't want to try to get a ton of people together at an obscure location in an area they just moved to and make them bring food.
The past couple of years, it has become an unofficial tradition for each class to meet at Applebee's the night of the Pre-Orientation. There's one on 64 and one 70 so they are pretty easy to find. All we had to do was call them up and schedule a date and told them we were bringing our LECOM group like the past couple of years and they sectioned off part of the restaurant for us. That way no one had to worry about bringing anything- all they had to do was find the place and eat/socialize.
Usually the SGA has some kind of Welcome to School festivities too. If you guys want a beach day, by all means go for it. Just keep in mind: more simplicity = more people.
Don't worry about dates too much now, June will be sending more emails out as the big day gets closer.
