LECOM-Bradenton Discussion Thread 2010-2011

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I think the others have covered most of what is important. However, make sure you leave well in advance. LECOM's neighbor, Manatee Technical Institute, has a ton of traffic and it took me about 20mins to get past it.

Did anyone else email their interviewers and thank them for their time?

I got a phone call this morning offering me an interview on october 18! Very exciting. I'm looking forward to visiting campus.

Edit: I submitted my secondary august 4.

received a call for an interview on oct. 22nd this morning as well. really excited!!! and oh my app. was complete in the first week of august, for anyone wondering.

Ughhh now I'm freaking out, Expedia just emailed me and said my flight down there was canceled. And now it's gonna be like $500 alone for a flight down there! I am so pissed lol.

Approximately what time did you guys get the phone call? I hope to get one soon!

Wow, I didn't know expedia could do that without finding you a substitute flight. First time I've heard of something like this.

I also received a call for an invite to interview.

But, I've already accepted at Touro-CA, so hopefully one of you will get the interview.

I think circumstances like this that are beyond their control still fall on the purchaser, because the airline was the one that canceled the flight.

That sucks though, Sedanial, I hope you find something less expensive.

False alarm! Thank God. What happened was I planned an itinerary down there but didn't actually book that specific itinerary, I booked a new one with my parents. The email was to let me know that the one I originally planned to book had it's flight canceled, but it doesn't affect me thank goodness 😀 Relieved lol

Nice! Glad to hear that it all worked out. 😉

Actually, MTI shares an entrance road with Lakewood Ranch High School. Thats what all that traffic is from. Definitely give yourself plenty of time to get there, people have been having a lot of trouble with the traffic (it's a single lane road).

Hey guys!

Just and FYI for those interviewing on friday, it is supposed to be RAINING and storming thurs, fri and sat.

SO PACK YOUR UMBRELLAS!!!

I'm SO nervous!!! :xf::luck::xf:

I looked that up today too! That 1 hour drive in the rain is going to suck... haha.

Has anyone had any problems opening the "portal" website on a Mac?

Hey, I m on a Macbook and I haven't had any issues. I use Firefox browser. Good luck.

Yea, it is weird. I use Firefox as well and it just keeps trying and trying to load and never does. But I called to find out about my file and she said it was complete.

FYI to everyone: I submitted 8/9 and they said my file would be reviewed next week.

I have had this for ages... I do not have disciplinary action, nor am I missing any requirement. According to the key, they haven't updated the info yet. (Note: I had to replace a couple red "X's" with a standard "X" or it wouldn't allow me to submit this post, due to too many images.)

I'd email Annette, she should have it fixed for you pretty quick.

That's really weird because I don't have any check, neither red nor green. And Annette told me that she got everything of my application :scared:

My checks are all green.

My checks are green too.... You should call!

I think yours could be green because you guys already have interviews. Were they green before your interviews?

Yeah, I called a week ago and they said the same thing, but they are still red and I'm getting nervous that something has gone awry... I'm wondering if they go over your file and mark the checks when they review it or when they offer you an interview, etc.. Are you clicking the "Letters and Requirements" link?

i might just possibly drive straight to the beach 😀 but i still dont feel prepared for my interview. please let mine be really chill!

i dont have red or green marks on mine. and my admission status saying i have an invite disappeared

I submitted my secondary 2 weeks ago and it still hasnt been processed. Just shows as received. Should I be concerned?

...We received your supplemental application. The review process will begin on your file. You will be notified when updates are made....

Erie's got processed within like 1 day.

I had the same exact message for like two weeks also until yesterday when I received the interview call

for all of you wondering about the green/red marks in requirements section...I talked to Lauren in admissions today and she told me that they appear red because they have not had the time to enter the info into the system. she was nice enough to look up my file and told me they have all my documents and just need to enter em. if you guys are worried, try giving them a call too to check up on everything, they all seem really nice

Good luck to everyone interviewing today 🙂

I'm getting excited for Monday!

Ditto! Except for the excited part, I hope there are not a lot of questions on healthcare legislation/etc., that is my only big worry lol.

Same here. I feel like I know just enough to get me in trouble

Exacttttllllllly. I have such a hard time not bringing politics into a discussion like that haha, I will have to try my hardest. It sounds like LECOM-B doesn't ask too much about that, hopefully we will hear more feedback from today's group!

I hope so...

I printed out all the old questions asked from the Interview Feedback page.
Reviewing the history of osteopathic medicine, principles, etc.
Reading over the health care bill.
Reading about the school and PBL.
Re-reading my application.
Writing questions to ask.

Anything else I should be studying/doing?

Maybe some ethics questions? Although it seems like they don't really ask those either here... I'm just generally trying to prep for all my interviews right now (focusing on LECOM-B at the moment though). Definitely did not read the entire healthcare bill, haha, but I know the basics behind it. And I'm so bad with figuring out what questions to ask them, I'll have to give that some thought too.

for my interview, they asked 0 ethics questions. all their questions were really just geared towards getting to know me. they really just asked questions about my past/experience and whether i would be able to handle pbl.

Oh I didn't mean reading the whole bill, ha. Just looking at websites to get the gist of it.

There used to be a site of a bunch of ethics topics/points of view posted here on SDN....the link is on my computer at home. I should probably look at that.

I just hope it's a conversation, no hard questions, ha

+1 on the no hard questions please. being this is my first interview, i really hope its chill. i too am having a hard time figuring out what kinds of questions to ask.

good luck to all the interviewees today!

and hopefully it'll be sunny for us on monday

Lol I just checked the weather, supposed to be a chance of thunderstorms but it looks like just in the afternoon, so hopefully we will luck out. I'm bringing an umbrella just in case 🙂

Kinda bored at work today...tired of checking portals with no updates, ha.

So what do you guys find attractive about LECOM-B? Maybe we can learn more about the school this way and I feel like it's helpful to weigh pros between schools.

Me?

Tuition: $29,200 OOS aka The Low Low!

Boards: Earlier someone posted 100% pass rate on COMLEX Step 1 with highest average score, and 12/41 got 99th percentile on USMLE Step 1. This is a big one for me.

Very Flexible Rotations (I don't mind setting up my own, prefer it really)

Publix: 2 very close to the school, Whole Foods 30 mins away (shush, this matters to me, I like to cook and I've been in a Wal-Mart only city way too long )

Beaches (and good scuba sites possibly??)

I didn't hear of anyone getting grilled by their interviewer today and didn't expect it. My interview only lasted about 20 minutes and began with

"You look familiar, have you been here before?"
"Yaaaa I interviewed here last year also....."
"Oh great, well at least we know you like it here" lol

Only one set of interviewers even took the full 30minutes or more to complete their interviews. My group was SUPER quick with our interviews taking about 15, 20, 25 minutes respectively.

Its very nice to get the interviews done as soon as you get there, it takes the stress off of the rest of the day and allows you to relax and get to know what PBL is actually about. Don't completely relax because I'm theorizing you are somewhat "judged" based on your later round table discussion about PBL and what you saw. Overall it was a good day and good to meet Noshie, PeachyPhD and Imabanana in person 👍 Not to mention the other 5 people or so that admitted to lurking on here without posting  I seeee youuuuuuu Any questions about specifics, feel free to PM me. We find out on Wednesday (if we decide to call) about our decisions.

Good luck to you guys on Monday :luck:

Nice to hear your interview went well! I have a few questions for you, if you don't mind. 😀 How many people interviewed today? And how many hours a week do students actually spend on Bradentons campus? My interview isn't for a while, but I'm glad to hear that it was relatively relaxed.

12 students were interviewed today. Broken into 4 groups of 3 people for interview portion. Each interview group had 2 interviewers and based on talking to others it seems the interviewers have the option to read your file before the interview or not.

As far as time spent on campus it really varies from person to person. Some people spend 12-14hrs a day in the library + class, others are only on campus for PBL sessions and anatomy/small lecture courses and prefer to study off campus.

PBL sessions are two hours long and are either two or three times per week (I believe). Anatomy and OMM are their own courses and require time outside of the PBL sessions. Regardless, students have said they will spend on average 8-10 hours/day studying on their own either on or off campus with that time increasing to 12-14 hours during exam weeks.

If the trend over the past couple weeks continues then having an umbrella handy would probably be a good idea. Though it's really a short/quick walk out to the parking lot so unless it's pouring the weather doesn't matter that much.

Good luck!

And how many hours a week do students actually spend on Bradentons campus?

My schedule as a 2nd year is this: 2 hour PBL sessions either 7.30-9.30, or 10am-12pm, MWF. 1-2 hours of OMM and/or Clinical Exam lecture per week, usually on Tuesday. Another 2 hours of OMM lab on Thursday. So that would be roughly 10 hours a week, with an additional hour or two a week for practice clinical exam patients and the like. The 1st year schedule is similar after anatomy finishes, but they have PBL and OMM Lab in the afternoon.

I like to study at home, but some people stay on campus to read. Other people hang out at Starbucks or other places like that. It's whatever works for you.

good to hear it went well! and it def sounds like a plus that they remember u. i also agree that having the interview first thing is def better so i can really just enjoy the rest of the day. hope the trend continues with the pretty chill interviews.

so just wanna make sure, its a one on one interview? or two interviewers to one interviewee?

and were the questions pretty general like on the student interview feed back thread?
