For those of you with interviews, if I'm understanding your posts correctly, it took an average of two weeks from processed status to interview invite?

Sorry if my question is annoying. I really, really want an interview from this school...

after that status, mine changed to 'your application is under review' and then a week and a half later i got the invite.

So I just found out the hard way that LECOM Erie does not take Biochemistry as a substitute for Organic Chemistry II and I assume it is the same thing for Bradenton. They told me they will hold my application until I take the class in the Fall. It sucks but hopefully I will still have a chance for admission when I'm complete in January. I have a 3.37GPA and a 3.27sGPA(with good upward trend) and 27 MCAT. Do I still have a shot at Bradenton? I would love to attend either CCOM or LECOM-B.

just booked my flight to the bradenton airport. still debating whether to rent a car or not, its costing me about $200 for 2 days. anyone else find cheaper rates?

I got an interview of the 1st also....they asked me whether I wanted the 1st or the 7th...i chose the 1st cuz i want to know if I was in earlier....have you heard from Erie campus?

I hope so, but the more I think about it, the more I want my interview to be mid to late October. 1500 is a lot to come up with in a month if they happened to accept me. A slightly later interview would give me more time if I start pinching my pennies now.

True, but I'd rather interview earlier with a higher chance of acceptance. I'm not sure how I'm going to come up with 1500 bucks but to be completely honest, I'll figure it out, borrow it from family, etc. if I have to in order to insure that I can hold any acceptance that I get.

I have to pay half of my tuition next week, and the other half October 15th. So having to pay a deposit by say mid-October is out of the question. No family funds to dip into unfortunately. I'm decent at generating revenue on my own, but I have my limits.

Keep in mind that last year they said they were following AACOMAS' traffic guidelines for deposits yet were requiring a deposit within 2 weeks of acceptance at my interview date (December) when AACOMAS says we should have 30 days. I wouldn't be so sure that you are going to have 30 days even in mid October.

Whatever the % was last year I'm sure it will drop for this year. I would guess they are handing out way more interviews now that they no longer have essays in their secondaries.

I obviously can't speak for the admissions department, but I think that if you weren't able to pay the entire $1500 at once they would try to work with you. If you get into that situation don't just assume it's a lost cause, call and ask!

Going from past years, you have a shot at an interview, especially if you have a good upward trend. It's tough to say how things will look in January, but last year they still interviewed into April IIRC. Good luck with orgo. Rock it and that will definitely help you!

I hear ya both. It's dumb, dumb, dumb to do it this way. Whatever money they gain from this, I think it hurts their word-of-mouth reputation more than it's worth. When I applied, they were still following the AACOMAS guidelines, and I thought those were harsh enough!

Folks over in the Erie forum are already getting acceptances from up north, and it sounds like they were given 30 days to hand in a deposit to hold their seat. Since Bradenton and Erie seem to go by the same deposit rules, it's very likely you'll have to cough up your $1500 in the same amount of time.

30 Days is better than the 2 weeks they wanted last year 👍 Hopefully that gives the opportunity to get a feel for other opportunities and such as well. I just wish that everyone followed the traffic guidelines so all acceptances before December would be due the 14th. Would save us all alot of money.

• Dr. Berezniak told the first years that ~4000 primary applications were sent to LECOM-B for a spot in the class of 2014. No info on secondaries, interviews, or number accepted.
• 5 students from the class of 2012 (current 3rd years) are taking the COMLEX Step I this month. Of the 146 who have already taken COMLEX, all 146 have passed.
• Due to changes in the COMLEX, students had to achieve a higher score to pass than was required in previous years.
• Of 41 students who took the USMLE Step I in addition to COMLEX, 40 passed it. The 1 who failed had been advised not to take it, but did so anyway. 12/41 received scores in the 99th percentile.

Of course, the flip side of this is that a few students failed out of school before reaching the end of 2nd year; also consider that the vast majority of students pass Step I eventually. There's also more to medicine than board exams... but still, I'd say this is pretty impressive.

So if you're wondering if PBL is "structured" enough that you learn everything that's important, I'd say the last few years' of evidence should put you at ease. The better question to ask is if PBL is a good fit for your learning style.

I'm not sure. PainMD87 posted receiving that status, but never updated us on what it meant. It does sound ominous, but it seems a little early for rejections.

Mine was in error. I have not received a letter. My "required letters and credits" later said I had not submitted my supplemental, so I e-mailed them and they said I was under review. My status now says "under review."

Ta-da! Back to the waiting game....

Thanks for the great info! I truly think PBL would be better for me since I learn most information on my own rather than being taught in lectures. However, it kind of worries me because I could see myself being somewhat lazy and procrastinating with studying.

I know you only just started, but do you feel like you will have the opportunity to get behind with your studies? Or is there enough motivation to stay on top of everything?

Also, they did mention that the mean score for the C/O 2011 (most recent one with complete data) on the COMLEX 1 was also number 1 in the country. I had always been curious if the high pass rate also meant a higher average score and it would appear that is certainly the case.

It wasn't clear from my post, but I actually just started my second year here. The pace is rapid, but from friends who go to other schools, it's not terribly different from their experiences. The first 10 weeks of first year, when you cover anatomy, are particularly intense; but it's manageable. As far as PBL, the cases are paced so that everyone covers a certain number of topics in a certain period of time, and that means you do have to keep at it.

I think most folks here are motivated enough to stay on top of things, but that's both due to self-selection and due to the admissions committee picking people they think will succeed in PBL. One thing that's required here is self-motivation. To help you along with that, a lot of the faculty strongly recommend students find a reliable study partner or study group so you're not on your own. Sometimes your PBL group itself can be your study pals. As a group, you pick what sections you're going to read before the next session, and often your group-mates will email if they come across something that seems especially important. That can help a lot to guide your reading.

I just have ochem II and some labs left to take in fall.. Im waiting for my app to be verified right now. Just wondering if I'm out of the running for the lecom's.

There is certainly the opportunity to get behind. Usually the first anatomy test and first PBL exam are worth the least overall so those are kind of the "welcome to med school" exams and if you don't do well on those it isn't the end of world, but should hopefully be a wake up call to not get behind again.

I was a procrastinator in undergrad so I quickly had to break old habits. For me the thought having to redo a year of med school, and the looming debt over my head were HUGE motivators!

Other thing is to find a few other folks who you click with and trust so you have at least a couple real close study partners who can hold each other accountable, and who you can vent to, and goof around with to maintain some level of sanity. I had a few close friends who weren't in my PBL groups but we clicked, became close/good friends and usually studied together. In addition to having an understanding wife at home who knew that I would be studying more than I ever have before, having a close group you can study with at times makes a HUGE difference.

Looking back I really don't know how I got through first 2 years unscathed....let alone do well on boards, as I constantly felt behind and that I just wasn't covering everything I needed to..... but that's pretty much how med school will make you feel.
