Hello all 🙂 ! I just recently applied to the MMS program in Bradenton. My status has been changed to "The Admissions Committee has not made a decision on your file. We will notify you as soon as a decision has been made."...Has anyone had this happen to them? Truthfully, this made me a little nervous. Any comments are appreciated, thank you!

Hey guys,

Has anyone received acceptance from the MMS program with these stats (or lower stats than this):
Science GPA: 3.39
Pre Req GPA: 3.23
cGPA: 3.31
I have not taken the MCAT (not sure if it is required for acceptance?).
I did poorly on my SATs (not sure if it is required for acceptance?).


I am worried I won't get accepted.

So, I'm currently in the process of applying to this program ... did everyone else submit their resume by email to [email protected]? Also, when I called asking some questions I was told to submit my driver's license in the same email? Did everyone else do this?
 
Honestly I emailed there and it still doesnt show it was recieved except i got the email saying they recieved it then like a couple days it said under review then it said they made the decision and thst i will get a letter in the mail.

Does anyone in the program know if summer and fall semester was good enough to easily score the minimum 498 MCAT?

Hi! what were your stats like? I'm thinking about applying for the dental track but gpa is borderline. Also heard this is very hard and they don't guarantee matriculation into the dental school even if you meet the guidelines.. did you look into any other masters/post baccs?

Hi! What were your stats like before the masters program? I'm now graduating from udnergrad with a low gpa and am in between a post bacc or this masters program as a pre-dental student. I have heard a lot of negative things about this program so I don't want it to be a waste of time or money. Did you apply/get accepcted to other dental schools as well during this program? Is it truw that you will get into their dental school if you meet the requirements? What is your input? Thank you!

Really? What have you heard? Yeah they have a solid linkage. If you get above a 3.0 - you get an interview. And if you dont mess up the interview, you are given a spot in their dental school.

Take a look at last year's thread if you haven't already. I attended last summer before withdrawing few months into the program and gave my account of the program and many others shared their experiences with the program as well. You seem to be pretty experienced and set on the field of dentistry, and speaking w/ pre-dent students who are in the program, this would probably be their only chance to get accepted to dental school, which is a pro I would see of the program.

These are cons I would note about the program:
-School culture- I have not heard from any students who are actually enthusiastic about being a student in the school. It is usually neutral or negative. Again people are here for a reason, no one actually cares about the Master's degree per se, this is their last chance to get into medical / dental school and usually this didn't lead to a collaborative learning environment. This is a for-profit school and this program is really just a cash cow for them, and this can be seen by how they treat students.

-Questionable test structure /content- this depends on the professor usually, but overall it seems as if they purposely designed exams meant to trick you. I'm not saying making you use critical thinking, but testing obscure content and using double negatives and other confusing wording which affects which answer would be right. Each Q is worth so many points and in turn affects your final course grade a lot. Of course the program should be rigorous, and it is, but they seemed to go out of their way to as mentioned by D1, make sure not everyone got through.

-Dress code, no water/food policy- you can't have food or drinks in the lecture hall which you spend hours in each day. It might not seem like a big deal at first, but adding in the required business professional dress code and it takes a toll on you.

Doing a post-bacc is a much less risky option than this program if it is still an option for you. I know many people who will be finishing the MMS program and will be attending the medical / dental program this year, but none of them are actually enthusiastic about attending LECOM, they didn't get in elsewhere so they're going. This is not meant to be a LECOM hate post, just my honest experience with the program. I'm putting this out there because this is a big decision, both time-wise and financially and optimism is always good, but it has to be grounded in reality. Make the best decision for yourself and weigh the risk / reward of enrolling in the program.

Ive spoken to a few alumni of the program and theyve said that the reason the questions are "hard" is because they are board-style questions - questions youll see in Medical school and on the board exams. So if you cant handle you shouldnt be trying to be a doctor in the first place.

You seem to be propping up the program a lot and are actually spreading misinformation. Taken from your own posts, your conception is, oh I'm just gonna get a 3.0 and I'm definitely getting in, and that is not the case at all.

I never told anyone what they should do, that is up to them ultimately. Feel free to bash and degrade all you want.
You seem to be symbolic of the stereotypes people have of those on SDN and the type of student I honestly hope do not become doctors in the future.

I completely agree that this is not a free ride. However, most questions on the exams don't "trick" you if you know the information. The average for 95% of all the exam grades have been in the 80s. If not, they are curved up to be for the most part.
 
I spoke with Jamie Murphy regarding getting accepted into the MMS program without DAT score and he told me its possible. Have anyone here been accepted without the DAT? I really want to get accepted and do this program in order to have a chance to go to dental school. But due to the coronavirus, testing centers are close until May or later and its a big concern.

I spoke with him too; it seems like if you meet the minimum AIS score, then you can enter into the program without any standardized test. I was told by the admission, “you need one or the other to get into the program period. (A.K.A. the AIS,DAT,or MCAT)”
 
I took the SAT before the newer version of it came out (so when it scores out of 2400). My question is when using the AIS calculator on LECOM's website, which SAT version does it take into account? I'm sure that plays a part in determining if your scores meet the criteria or not? If anyone knows about this please let me know! Also has anyone else applied with a gpa around 2.75 and SAT scores of (writing: 500, math: 530, reading: 520, out of 2400) , and ACT score of 26 and gotten accepted? When I put it in the AIS calculator it says not eligible so now I don't know if I should bother applying or not. I have not yet taken the DAT.

There was no curve for exams or courses when I was there. IIRC professors added small number of extra questions per exam which would help you if you got them right or not affect grade if you got it wrong

Oh you dropped during summer. Yeah, it gets harder after summer obviously due to the increased amount of classes (and pharm is no joke) and sometimes when the class average dropped to the mid/high 70s they would "curve" by dropping questions till it hit the lower 80s

Edit: Dont misunderstand what I'm trying to convey. This goes for those interested in the program. The AVERAGE is in the 80s, which means at least 20-30% class got below that. You could easily be on that side of the spectrum. This is not an easy program. I've heard PCOM's masters is easier but hindsight is 20/20 and the grass is always greener.

I doubt it, but anything is possible. As of now campus is closed till June 1st.

Yeah that means they will mail the acceptance/rejection to your house.
 
I want to add a word of encouragement to everyone considering this program. I mentioned previously that there has been issues in this program. The person that is taking over as the director of the MMS is fully on your side. He is very compassionate and was receptive to issues in this program that I have seen. He is looking to spearhead a lot of change and to seriously improve it. His goal is to make a program that in the future could lead to "80% acceptance of MMS applicants" and to "make the MMS very desirable and competitive for applicants." I think you all are going to be in good hands as far as the leader for this program is concerned. I hope that this attitude will trickle down and positively impact that whole program. He is wanting to form a council of alumni to help guide the program's improvements. That should really tell you something if he is willing to listen to students like this. Feel free to message me if you have questions.

From what I’ve heard, there are currently 76 people total in the MMS. 23 dental. Of those, 19-20 interviewed so far, around 10 have been accepted with the rest currently on a waitlist. The rest are medical and I think around 30 medical seeking MMS have been been interviewed with 15-19 selected and the rest currently on a waitlist. These are rough numbers

I'm honestly not too sure about the numbers but I will say based on what the anatomy professor said, there should be 66 of us. 5-6 should be from the med school, So its closer to 60. You're prob right about the amount interviewed/selected/waitlisted.

I interviewed with Dr. Gnara for 30 min over the phone. Got the letter in the mail like 5-7 days later

Average stats, 500 MCAT, 3.0 GPA, but from a top 50 university, 3 years healthcare work experience

Thanks that makes me less stress. My stat is about the same with a 3.2c and 3.1s. How was the interview? Was the questions pretty generic?

Yeah. Dr. Gnara introduced himself and told me about the program. Then he asked me some questions about my background and why this program
 
Dr. Gnarra wants hear a fire in your voice. Demonstrate that you are highly motivated to come and take care of business and it will be no problem.

I would add both classes so they get a good picture of your real GPA.
