Are they going to pair us up or is it just a list with students looking for a roommate and we are to contact those on the list we want to room with?

I'm pretty sure that it's just a list of people and we contact who we want to live with.

Has anyone interviewed at LECOM Erie in the past 1 month? If so, how long has it been taking the school to send out the acceptance/rejection letters? Thanks for the help in advance!

I interviewed on March 6, and am still in decision limbo! At least it gives me something to obsess about! I love my mailbox! I hate my mailbox! Good luck!

4 weeks at the very least is their typical turnaround time. The adcom meets on Wednesdays and mails out letters that same day.

Good luck all!

Hey guys,
Just chiming in to say that I have signed my life away on the dotted line and decided on LECOM. Have also invested in a few good shovels and a snow blower (just kidding). We should form an on-line group on myspace or something. With all the questions going around this post its kinda hard to keep track of who's in the class of 2010, who's got a question, and who's got an answer...
OK, so I took some initiative and started a group for members of the class of 2010 at http://groups.myspace.com/LECOM.
This way we can see pictures and share all kinds of fun stuff prior to meeting at school. Let me know if you have any problems with it. Enjoy!

Hey everyone!

It took me 8 weeks to recieve a letter informing me that I was accepted... Argh!! 😡 I was so angry at the time, and obsessed over my mailbox as well 🙄 , but it WILL come! Be patient :meanie:

Yah, all my friends keep tryin to get me to start a My Space... facebook consumes enough of my time  Buuut.... Maybe it is time to start a MySpace!

Does anyone know what the last day of classes is for sophomore? In the student handbook it says May 26th but I don't know if it's the same for both freshmen and sophomores. If it is then that sucks as there isn't much time to study for boards, COMLEX I. When in June is COMLEX I given any way? Thanks.

hey everyone! i think that it is such a good idea to start getting to know each other before we start school. At least we'll feel like we all know each other when we get there.

If I'm not mistaken, the MS2s are almost done with the systems now and I believe all they have left are board review classes.

If you go to www.nbome.com it gives you all the board schedules for this year. Since it's computer based now, there are more options.

Thanks for the link! I thought there's only one specific date in June but in fact there's more than one. So the school doesn't determine when we take COMLEX I right? We get to pick when we want as long as it's within a reasonable time, right?

Wow, MSIIs are almost done with classes now? That's pretty fast! That's a lot of time dedicated for board review classes.

Same here, we could start a group on Facebook🙂 Oh wait, that wont work, its by schools! I guess myspace is the way to go!

Has anyone heard anything from LECOM since sending in your deposit? I haven't heard a single word!

Great idea with the myspace group, fielddoc! I'll sign up once I'm off work... they block access to myspace! 😱

Hey FutureDocDO,

I received a Financial Aid packet and then about a week later, another packet with a bunch of paperwork regarding immunizations and other pre-attendance items (background check, namebadge instructions, etc. etc.). I sent in my deposit way back in November or early December and didn't get the packets till early February.

Is anybody going to Creation Fest (Christian music festival) in late June early July? It should be fun, I hope! I wanted to go to Creation West in George, Washington last year, but my brother's wedding was that weekend, so I had to wait till this year to go to Creation East in Pennsylvania!

So if anybody is interested or is going to be there, we should get together!

I sent mine before the Dec. 15th deadline. I'll have to give them a call tomorrow if I remember.

Update: I just called and spoke with Melissa. It turned out they had me on the alternate list for ISP. Whatever that means. Are they going to reject me if there isn't any spot left? Anyway, I told her my first choice is LDP, not ISP, so she went back and look at my file and corrected the error and was told the financial aid packet is on its way. I also spoke with another lady. They were really helpful and sounded genuinely nice. Totally unexpected from all the reading I've done on here.

Ok, crap! I just received notice that I am on alternate list! ISP was my first choice, followed by PBL and LDP. I thought they gave out acceptances according to how you ranked? If not choice 1, then choice, 2 etc. I would be (somewhat) happy with any other choice, as these lead to actually being in medical school! Should I call them and say I will take any pathway?? Argh!!

Echoing FutureDocDO's sentiments: "Are they going to reject me if there isn't any spot left?"

Argh!!

LECOM Erie accepts you first, THEN they put you in a pathway based on your ranking.

So, I haven't even been accepted then? What exactly does "alternate" mean? That if there is a vacant spot in any pathway, I may then be considered for it? Hmmph! Balderdash! So basically, alternate=rejection?

I have been following LECOM-E's adcom habits for a long time. The way I think they do it is that they have you ranked on an alternate list, not by pathway. Alternate means that if a spot opens up in any pathway, and you are next on the list, they will try to accomodate you as best they can.

Ahh. Ok, thanks! Five more possible months of waiting!

Does this imply that all of their seats have already been filled?

Most likely. You could get a call, though, up to a day before orientation (late July).

Good luck!

Is it possible to defer admission for a year after acceptance?? whats their policy on that??

I believe so as long as you have a good reason.

Nope! I called yesterday (03/24), as you already know, at 7:00 AM central time and was informed during the conversation that they were interviewing at the time.

Maybe they are just interviewing alternates?
Now that you mention that... that could be. 🙁

Is LECOM is your first choice?

My first choice is getting in somewhere!! 😀

LECOM is, in my opinion, an excellent school.

Best of luck :luck: getting off that alternate list. Are you an in-stater?

According to a few people in PA and those in Erie, LECOM is pretty reputable. They said the students they've met in the hospitals seemed knowledgeable but other than that I don't know what else they based their judgement on.

I work (occasionally) with a recent LECOM graduate, and am acquainted with a current MS-4. Both have good things to say about LECOM. I live in Ohio.

One more thing: When I called to confirm that I wanted to be considered as an alternate, my name was not on the list! Supposed to call back on Monday.

Damn! What happened to my avatar of David Hasselhoff!!?

Hope there's some good news for you come Monday, toothless! :luck:

Huh? Oh! The thought of it possibly being good news didn't even occur to me! I was guessing clerical error or a radical downgrade. 😛

I'm a bit confused about the financial aid...I thought at the interview they said there was roughly $8,500 subsidized loans, $32,000 unsibsidized, and something like $12,000 in private...but now I understand that this is just a MAXIMUM, and that they are going to send us a letter in May telling us how much of that we're eligible for based on fafsa and efc??????????? Is it common to get less than the $40,000 in Stafford loans???? I'm in the process of buying a house and am kinda banking on getting $40,000 in Stafford loans (would rather not take private loans if not necessary)....anyone know how to figure out how much we'll be getting?

If you don't mind, what are your stats?

Sure: Undergrad 3.06, Postbac 3.45 (with 7 credits currently taking) MCAT 28P V10 PS9 BS9, have worked full-time almost 4 years now in a psychiatric emergency and inpatient clinic, volunteer teaching BLS, (about 2 years) volunteer on local crisis hotline (4 years). Volunteer Chippendale's Dancer as needed.

Yep. Confirmed this morning: on the alternate list. At least I get to extend the fun now!!! 😀

Could the other upperclass students who may have been placed on the alternate list but then got accepted give us any indication of how many students off the alternate list typically get accepted? Does it depend on our rank on the list? When do they notify us of acceptance or rejection? Or does the timing vary from person to person? Has anyone really been notified as late as the day before classes? Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

When I was second year we were done with ACLS around May 5th. We had 4 weeks to study for Comlex I. Ours was June 8,9 and we started rotations that monday if you have to travel >200miles otherwise you started your rotation on that Friday. You get one day fro travel each way.

You take Comlex II during rotations. You try to schedule it duing a light rotation. I studied for 2 weeks for step II.

There were a few people in my class who had less than 2 weeks notice of their acceptance and had to scramble to get here. LECOM is the largest med school in the country and its a big business. They want as many people to attend as possible. However, for those students with multiple acceptances many times the school doesn't know until toward the end of the interview season how many slots they have left to fill.

I am planning to take a trip to Erie late April to look at apts. I have printed out some information regarding apts that take pets from a rental website. Does anyone have any updated, additional information about apts that take pets? Seems like most of the apts are from 2 to 7miles from the school. The only ones that are very close to LECOM don't take pets.

See you all in July 🙂

Hey Margaret,

From what I've researched, you are exactly right. All the apartments that accept pets aren't the ones very close to the school. Wish I could be more help, but I'm doing all my research from Montana! I'm living in Belle Village by the way. Anybody else?

I don't think traffic in Erie will be horrible. Maybe it will, not sure. 😱 But I've lived in both Phoenix and Denver where traffic is crazy bad, so it probably won't seem like it, even if it is! Anybody have any insight?

Good luck and happy apartment hunting!

There is no traffic in Erie. Traffic in Erie means you get to your destination 5 minutes later than usual. The only time you have to plan ahead is during the snow storms when visibility is zero and traffic creeps along.

My sister is getting married soon (exciting!) and I need to find a weekend where I can get home to be there! Does anyone know when christmas break usually begins for MSI's, I am beginning there next year. She is wanting to have it Saturday Dec. 23rd, but LECOM doesn't seem to let us out until Dec. 22nd?? I live in Oregon so that makes it a sticky situation...

Does anyone know what the schedule will be for finals for the MSI class next year?? Or, what it has been in the recent years past? Thank you for any help!! 😱

Can i do anything to enhance our chances of being accepted off the alternative list? (i.e. send in more recommendations? show persistence by calling them and expressing my interest in attending lecom?)
