LECOM - Erie Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey everyone Im a first year student at lecom. I just wanted to answer a couple of questions asked earlier. It is possible to do well in lecom as long as you put time into studying. Or you can be lazy like me and just get by...jk:laugh:. First quarter(aug-oct) we went to class 8-12 mon-fri. Second quarter's schedule is all over the place due to compounding lab. Some days we dont get out til 5.
I dont really read the forums much but would be glad to answer any questions. Just make sure you PM me instead of posting on the forum.
Good luck to everyone and congrats to everyone who got accepted already!!

Thanks for answering. What about the APPE? I heard that students are able to do them anywhere and that you must do them in Erie, Which one is true?

LECOM sounds like a great program. I like the idea of 3 years compared to 4.👍

LECOM sounds like a great program. I like the idea of 3 years compared to 4.👍

So do I mainly because of loan interest accruing over the summer. One less year for tuition, less interest and less living expenses plus starting your career a year early; LOVE saving money! In this economy we gotta do pharm school as cheap as we can!

Hey everybody, i am interested in applying to LECOM Erie, but I have a few questions.

1.) i visited the website and says that you dont need the PCAT, if you have or plan to have a bachelor degree. Is this true or was this recently changed. When do you have to degree completed by (Spring, June, July?)

2.) the site doesnt mention how many applicants apply here, I just want to know how competitive it is to get in

3.) I am planning to submit my pharmacy designation to LECOM Erie sometime tomorrow but I wanted to know if I am pretty late in the admission process (all of the seats filled yet?). the site says the application runs from October to March, so i wanted to know what my chances would be if I submitted right now. I already had PharmCAS do my GPA calculation so the 5 weeks waiting thing is out of the way.

4.) What is the average GPA and PCAT scores of LECOM Erie

5.)MCPHS only allows you to apply to one of their campuses. is this the same for LECOM Erie with the PA and FL campuses?

Any feedback would be appreciated

(1) I would think you would just need your degree completed by the time you start. I would just call and ask though. Is your degree already finished? Have you taken the PCAT? If you have a decent score then it would only help you. If you don't want to take it but have a solid GPA and some extracurriculars/tech experience/great recs, etc. then other categories can make up for what's missing.

(2) I don't remember the stats from my tour/interview but if you look at this thread compared to others I don't think there is as much interest here than say Lecom Bradenton or schools in other locations. You have to want to go to a 3 year school and not mind that it's in Erie, PA. This was my first choice and I'm from FL and have never even seen snow because I want to go to a 3 year program and Lecom Erie has affordable tuition. When I went for my interview the city seemed nice enough and I really liked the school.

(3) I would say apply, especially if the calculations are out of the way. What do you have to lose? The pharmcas fee? If you get an interview then you'll have to pay for the travel expenses but if you get an interview then I would think you have a decent chance of getting in.

(4) I don't know what the average is. I got a 99% on my PCAT but my GPA was only a 3.1/3.1. I didn't do well during my undergrad (had a 2.9) but when I did my postbac I got straight A's and raised it a little. Maybe they took that into consideration but I was also well rounded: Officer in pharmacy club, tech experience, research assistant, teaching assistant, and strong recs. So don't just look at gpa/pcat but everything.

(5) You can apply to both through the pharmcas.

Is a 3.65 cGPA PharmCas and a 3.6 sci GPA considered solid for LECOM erie

LECOM’s PharmCAS page says their average GPA last year was 3.56. It also mentions how many were interviewed. You can also find more information regarding admission stats in PSAR tables on AACP’s website.

.You should be fine in terms of your GPA, as long as the rest of your application is also strong. However, that is just my opinion. If you have not taken PCAT, you may have a writing session during your interview. And if you have taken the PCAT, they can see your score and take it into consideration. Therefore, a good PCAT score helps even when you have a degree. Good luck!:luck:.

Hi everyone! I still didnt get my answer , Please if anybody knows about writing essay @ Lecom interview day , I would appreciate if shares the opinion.

You have to take the essay if you have not taken the PCAT, regardless of having a bachelor’s degree. I don’t know anything about the essay since I did not have to write it during my interview. Nobody in my interview group had to write the essay either. LECOM’s website or PharmCAS page can further clarify things. I hope this helps.

During my interview they said this would be the first year they're offering scholarships to incoming students. Does anyone know what they will base the merit ones off of? I was thinking maybe PCAT scores because gpa is so different at different schools or maybe 3.5gpa and 90+ composite or just maybe PCAT because it standardizes everyone. I'm curious.

Does anyone know when accepted students who paid their deposit recieve their matriculation packet?

I was accepted on Dec 8th and recieved my packet on Dec 29th

Did you get your packet in the mail? Or are you talking about the matriculation packet that was emailed out?

I never got a matriculation packet through email. The only time LECOM has contacted my via email was to offer me an interview and then they sent me a confirmation email after I confirmed my interview date. Soon after that my personal email was deactivated (old school one I wasn't aware would expire or I wouldn't have used it on pharmCAS, argg). When that happened I logged into my LECOM portal and updated my personal information with my new email address, but I haven't received anything in my new email from LECOM so far. The portal changed after they got my matriculation agreement and $500 deposit that came with my acceptance letter. What was in your matriculation email 2011Bound?

And srx128 are you sure your not talking about your matriculation agreement and acceptance letter that all accepted students receive? From your signature it looks like you're still interviewing and haven't made a decision yet or maybe you just paid the deposit to have your seat held...

I recieved my acceptance letter through the mail on Dec 8th, paid my deposit and sent in the matriculation agreement the next week and recieved the email with the matriculation packet attached on Dec 29th. Hope that clears things up🙂

Yes it does. I think there was a gap from when my email was deactivated and when I updated my LECOM portal with my new email address. I'm going to talk to LECOM on Monday so I can check out that matriculation packet. Thanks.

@everyone: I received the username/password email on Jan. 7th. Typically, how long is the wait until adcom approves or denies an interview? BTW I'm looking forward for college classes starting tomorrow. This break has been boring.

i have an interview with lecom-erie on january 18th and anyone has any suggestions for me in terms of the interview set up? hotel? sightseeing? restaurant? any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

p.s. lecom-erie is my first choice and i need to get in

My suggestion is to be calm and be yourself. If you try to over impress them it will definitely show. The questions won't be out of the ordinary. I can honestly say that it was a relaxed interview, even with some laughter. I didn't do much sightseeing, but the hotel where I stayed had numerous brochures with places to see. I stayed at the Days inn (not fancy, decent breakfast, just right for my low budget).

Good luck on your interview!!!

thank you for your feedback. i'm a bit nervous now about lecom-erie considering it's my first choice due to the tuition factor. i don't know if i'll have time for sightseeing considering my flight is Tuesday night at 6pm. i should be there on monday the 17th by noon, maybe i can only do some sightseeing on monday. i want to stay at days inn because it's the cheaper. i hope i get in so i can see you guys in august. how long does it take after the interview for them to send out acceptances?

Any advice on housing will be appreciated.

During my interview I checked the town, it seem pretty decent (I liked it). I was advice by one person to not pass 38th st (west bound, towards the lake) or downtown. Event though I did drive during night hours in downtown and it didn't seem bad at all.

I haven't physically visit any apartment communities, but I guess is sound to say that it is possible to find a decent apartment in the 600-800 range, 2 bd. I saw many apartment complex near LECOM which weren't online, so i guess there may be better deals out there.

If anyone have done a detailed research and will like to share, please do so.

Once again congratulations to those accepted and interviewed!! If you haven't interview yet best of luck to you.

can anyone who interviewed on january 5th or january 12th share your interview experiences? thanks

Congrats!!! I do have an interview on Jan 12. Any comments ? Did u have essay part or not?

how was your interview yesterday? what do you think? my interview will be on january 18th and good luck i hope we'd both get in

12 - The number of times pharmdnj718 has mentioned he/she has an interview on Jan. 18th. One more mention of this date and you'll be at a baker's dozen.

It took exactly a week for me to receive my acceptance. I received it TODAY!!!:soexcited:
Once again relax be yourself, the interviewers were great as I mentioned previously. And yes LECOM is my first choice.

By judging from the posts, so far there are five of us who have been accepted at LECOM-Erie and will be attending. We can be sure that this number will increase by one once pharmdnj718 gets accepted. And yes I did count, but our thread only has three pages. Feel free to correct or update anytime!🙂

Here's the list:

  • 2011Bound
  • DPH38
  • NorthEast2011
  • Samus2008
  • Ifrank
.
(order based on when the user indicated he or she was accepted)

thank you and i hope you get in too. what's your first choice?

It's hard for me to say right now. All of the schools that I've applied to have such great things to offer. Once again, best of luck with your top pick. I'm sure you'll get in. Your vigor for this program is intense!

Belmont: Interview(1-28)
Midway: Accepted; I declined offer.

LECOM: No News Yet

For everybody that's accepted, when are you guys moving to Erie? My wife and I are renting a house starting july 1st. Figure that will give us a decent amount of time to get the house in order and relax before starting school. Definitely not looking forward to driving one of those rental trucks up from florida though.

After LECOM received my matriculation agreement they sent me an email that read like this: "Congratulations on your acceptance into the LECOM School of Pharmacy, Class of 2014. We received your matriculation agreement and acceptance fee. Our office will be sending you information on housing, financial aid, student health forms, and orientation material in the spring."

It had an attachment with lots of information on it. I never received anything in the mail though. For those of you that got in, as soon as I sent in my matriculation agreement I applied for an intern license for my state. I applied for that back in november and just received it as of yesterday. So if you want to get some intern hours before school you should start that today. Let me know if you have any questions.

2011,
Are you currently in FL? is you intern license in FL? It was nice for you to post your uptodate info. I'm in FL, I will like to know more how your process went for the intern and if you had any luck with employment. You mentioned you already had a house for July 1st, how was your home search? I'm also moving my family from FL and will take any info on housing. I've done some research on housing but any additional wont hurt. If you are in FL, tell me where at, maybe we can chat before departing and meeting in Erie.

I am currently in pensacola florida, originally from south florida. I already worked as a pharmacy tech for publix, so as soon as I got my intern license it was as simple as them changing my job class. It will probably be harder if you don't have a job. I'm starting my first day as an intern today ( my pharmacists were just as excited as I was when I got my license). For Florida this is what you have to do. Follow the instructions here http://www.doh.state.fl.us/mqa/pharmacy/ap_intern.pdf , and send all the required stuff to the correct department in erie. I called to find out what department that was, sorry I don't remember. They will fill it out and send it back, remember to give them a return envelope with postage. Then just send all the required info to the address stated in the website. Simple as that. Housing: my wife came up with me for my interview specifically to look at places because we knew we weren't going back up there to look again. Didn't like the apartments. She found a house through craigslist of all places. Guy was really nice and took a video of the whole place for us to look at. I called the police department to make sure it was in a nice neighborhood. It's about 4 miles from my school, 5 or 6 from hers. Let me know what part of florida you're in. I'm going to go down south to visit family before I go up, and I could always stop by. Good luck moving all of your stuff up, I'm sure you're looking forward to that as least as much as I am.

does anyone know how long does it take after the interview to get a decision from lecom?

I will be going to the interview later this month.

The state I am from does not grant an intern license until after at least one semester in a pharmacy college. So I am seriously debating whether or not this 750 intern hour issue worth the trouble.

Well you can get the hours in Pennsylvania. You don't have to get them in your home state. Most states require you to get a certain amount of hours. If you get into this school it would make sense for you to take the pennsylvania exam simply because you went to school there, even if you have no intention of living there. Did you verify that with the department of health for your state?

I posted a question and got some answers from current pharmacy students there. http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=788729

This is what my state's official site says:
"When to Register

Every person shall register before beginning their internship, but not before the successful completion of at least one semester in a recognized college of pharmacy."

But, could it mean at least one semester for the prerequisites? I should call doh sometime soon.

I still haven't received an interview!!!! LECOM received my application on Dec 23rd. Do you think there still might be chance for an interview??

Yes. They were probably on winter break after receiving your application. Don't worry, you will hear from them. Good luck!:luck:

There's your answer. Completion of one semester of prerequisites is not equivalent to being in pharmacy school. That is true even if you are enrolled in a college of pharmacy's pre-pharmacy program. I hope that makes sense. Good luck with your upcoming interview at LECOM.:luck:

DPH38, I got one from Bradenton campus so I started worrying....Thanks for encouragement though!!!
