They will send you home!

LOL! They won't send you home! (at least not at first!). Yes, the policy is MANDATORY attendance. For the first few weeks I think everyone abided by that. Now, I'd say there are a few people who don't attend class, especially things like OPP and Healthcare Management. From my understanding, if you're doing poorly and missing class, they will talk to you about it. If you're doing fine and just skipping a few lectures on meditation and nutrition it's usually no big deal. I usually go to class, but it's not always beneficial. I'd like to know if anyone has actually been spoken to about missing class. They do take attendance periodically, although I doubt every day.

As for the social life thing--yes, it's definitely possible. Esp if you're PBL/ ISP, but probably LDP if you balance it right. I rarely study past 9 or 10pm, but I usually start around 8-10am if I don't have class. My aim also, is not to be #1 in my class so I don't try to kill myself either. You just have to learn to balance things. Anatomy will be tough the first few months, so there's not a lot of balance then, but it gets better. I know several people with kids who seem to be able to balance family and school pretty well. I'm a big advocate of good time management, probably because mine sucks! (eg--I should be reading pathology right now, but what am I doing???)

CONGRATS ON YOUR ACCEPTANCE.
we currently bought a condo right on grand avenue, and are looking either for tenants, or students who want to buy the place. It is right across the street from DMU at 3031 Grand Avenue. If interested let us know, or please pass on the message to other interested candidates.

DMU is 800 or so miles away from LECOM, I doubt even the ISPers can manage classes on that commute.

Seriously, sahar!

Read the thread and post accordingly please.

did you acceptance letter come in a big envelope or a little one? was it thick or thin?

sorry i am chomping at the bit!

Little envelope but you could tell there were a few pages in there.

Exactly what Lisa said.

Lisa, are you going to be attending? I see you still got the ? mark after LECOM.

PS Would anyone like to recommend a realtor/house to rent/location of house?

I need to start looking.

I really need to know if this thing about ISP is true, about having to be on campus 4-5 days per week even though you're ISP. Can anyone help me out? I've PMed some people and started a thread in Osteo and haven't heard anything. This is hugely important to me. If anyone knows anything about it, please reply or PM me. Thanks.

I'm in LDP, but I have a few friends who are ISP and they have been on campus almost as much as we have.

I guess they were told the only class they would have to be on campus for was OMM, but as it turns out, the Powers That Be are making them come to a bunch of other courses (HCM, H&P, etc.) - basically everything but the systems.

Next year, it will probably be better, because we'll be more involved with the systems courses and less with all the other stuff. But as for now, the ISP kids are on campus probably 4 times a week.

I just got accepted!!!!! I just interviewed on Monday, they told us we wouldn't hear for a couple weeks! Question- I am accepted into the LDP, is there any way to change that to PBL?

You can call and ask to be changed to PBL (I highly recommend it!) but it might be too late in the season and it might be full, but it's worth a try. PM me with any PBL questions--I'm looking for ways to procrastinate my studying!

Howard Hanna is a good real estate company if you're looking to buy.

I would stay on the west side of town--there are a lot of apartments close to school--you should be getting a packet from the school.

MiesVanDerMom--I posted on your thread in the osteo forum.

Anyone with housing info, please PM me too. My husband and I are looking to buy a house and want to make sure it is in a good area in case we decide to rent it out to LECOM students after I am done. I met with a realtor from Coldwell Banker after my interview Monday, she seemed pretty good. How far away do you think is too far from the campus to live? Thanks!!

Like someone else said, I'd stay on the west side. It's closer to the school and nicer neighborhoods. With that being said, I live on the east side south of 38th street, which is also nice. It's further from the school (15 minutes instead of 5) but that doesn't bother me. I live in Belle Village Townhomes. They are really nice and allow pets, located about half way between LECOM and Penn State - Behrend. I'm renting so I can't really recommend a real estate agent. However, if any of you are looking to rent, Belle Village is great and our landlady is awesome.

Hey everyone!

I just got accepted to LECOM yesterday!!!!! and plan on attending!!!!

Does anyone have info on housing, when school starts, etc.

Congrats!! Did you interview this past Monday too?

no i interviewed on the 16th.....im sooo happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

in the same day i got waitlisted from one school...then later that nite i got the acceptance from erie....funny how things work out

Anybody else going to Erie c/o 2011 and really pumped about it?!?!

I got accepted, but turned them down for the Carribean... I couldn't live life being a D.O. Congrats to you and your achievements... One more thing... For those of you that don't get in, go to Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and do their 10 month special masters. If you hold a 3.5 out of a 4.0 scale, your automatically accepted to the next years class. This is quite a good oppertunity as well as a "back door" into their program... GOOD LUCK

i'm part of the LECOM club now (got my acceptance yesterday).😀

QUESTION FOR ANY CURRENT LECOMers (esp 3rd and 4th year students)

I'm from the east coast... I know it's possible to do elective rotations in the NY area(or anywhere in the world for that matter), but is it possible to do all of your 3rd and/or 4th year there at the affiliated hospitals for the core rotations? any help would be appreciated..

Mandatory of Affliliated hospitals? Chances are slim because of the number of mandatory hospitals we have to fill for each rotation. You could get away with doing several there if they are mandatories, and you are able to fight it out with your rotations group (others in your group will undoubtable want that area as well, and you end up compromising so that ya'll will get some rotations there, and as always to fill the madatory sites)

This is kind of random, but has anyone completed or known of anyone who has completed rotations for LECOM in Texas?

Electives in Texas yes, you can do those anywhere in the country and people have done them there. Other than that you're most likely going to have to stick to affiliate hospitals. There's usually 1 or 2 LECOM grads that match in Texas for residency per year.

It's official.....LECOM, here I come!

Little advice? If anyone is familiar with Erie's winter weather, my husband and I are trying to decide what to do about our cars. We are selling his (so sad, he loves it) but we'll make out ok with that. I have a Mazda 6 and if we sell it, we'll take a loss on it of about $1000. I live in southeast PA and we get some snow/sleet/slush down here and it hangs in there fine- anyone know about the road conditions in Erie, do you think we'll be able to make it work? It's front wheel drive (if that matters). Is 4 wheel drive absolutely necessary? Thanks

I don't think 4 wheel drive is absolutely necessary. I have a 4 wheel drive vehicle (Jeep cherokee), and have had to use it 2 or 3 times (lived up here for almost 2 years). Finding a place to live with good snow removal is the key, because the roads are kept pretty well, it is just getting out of some apartment complex/houses that can be difficult (because they plow you in). Plus, our last 2 winters have been rather mild, with the occasional snow storm (like recently)

4 wheel drive is nice on those few occasions that there's a big storm, but by no means is necessary. A good set of tires is all you really need. Like the previous post said, some of the apartment complexes don't plow well, and when they do, they trap your car. Make sure you have a shovel! THe main streets are usually pretty well plowed but it seems to take a while for them to get around to the side streets. Again, I'd look into a good set of tires!

Good luck with the Hurricanes down there and the chance of not having running water. By all means I'd rather take a harsh winter and live like a human than no running water and live like an animal. I don't mean to offend you or anyone else but it is certainly the truth. You should get on valuemd.com ASAP and read up.

I understand where you coming from... The majority of the places are like this. But I've been accepted to SGU and the AUC... Each with running water, food, nice campus housing, etc...

Hey man, gotta take baby steps sometimes. Hope to meet you in the fall.

Hey Everyone!

Just wondering if anyone knows when orientation/class start....i have to start looking for a place to live before i freeze on the erie streets!

Awesome! I didn't know there was a casino!

I can't decide which school to go to. I got accepted to LECOM and NYCOM, with an interview at Touro MI comin up in a few weeks. I hate how they don't give you any time to decide. I like how LECOM is so cheap and NYCOM is about 65k a year. I am from Rochester, NY so either would be close. Any feedback? I might just put the money down on LECOM and see what Touro has to offer.

Hey hey! I'm from Rochester too! Where did you do your undergrad? There seem to be a bunch of us heading down to Erie! As far as decisions go its a tough choice since they are both have ups and downs- NYCOM is pretty sweet cuz you get to live in NYC and thats way more fun than Erie *or rochester for that matter!* but Erie is DEF a lot cheaper, and closer to home/ a million other cities...as far as the money thing I've heard a bunch of people that put down the deposits on one school and then just forfeit the money if you can stomach losing the 1500! 😱 I guess in the long run of 200,000 in debt 1,500 doesnt seem that bad😉
