LECOM-Erie Discussion Thread 2010-2011

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was at the interview on the 16th as well and just got my acceptance today. LDP in Erie, this was my top choice school. I have other secondary applications that I am not even going to bother with. Congrats to everyone else that got in and for those that are preping good luck.

Congrats Avion321 and welcome to the class of 2015!

Congrats Avion321 and welcome to the class of 2015!

Looks like a good % of interviewees got in, which is good to know for you future interviewees. I'm still so excited, I finally got the chance to tell my entire family yesterday which was pretty awesome. I almost started the LECOM E class of 2015 group on FB but it's probably too early .

HockeyDr, You just told your family yesterday? My family would have killed me if I hadn't told them within hours of opening the envelope! 😛

I have to say this past week has been wonderful. I have been walking on air. I love telling everyone, I swear I'll never tire of it. 😉 It is almost like getting married, everyone has been congratulating me and hugging me!

BTW, I hope I am still welcome here on the Erie thread. There really isn't anyone yet over on the SH thread.

Why Tuesday? I've been waiting to move past 'under review' for quite some time as well.

Alright, I am starting to wonder what's up! Going on my 5th week!!! LECOM is high on my list of schools and i just don't know what's going on. Do you guys that have been under review for quite a while have something that would hold them back from reviewing your app? I know I don't... I emailed them almost two weeks ago when I received a SECOND "your file is complete" email (I received one on 6/27 and one on 7/22). They just said they have everything and I'll be hearing from them soon... Waiting on information is definitely tough..

BUT ANYWAYS... Congradu-fricken-lations to all you who received acceptances!!!!

I don't want this to sound discouraging to anyone but it probably will...
I wonder if everyone that went to the first round of interviews was accepted. Like they chose a bunch of people they wanted to get in and they just had us interview to make sure we weren't raving lunatics. Nah, there is no way that would happen right?

I swear, the more I learn about medical school admissions the more confused I get about the whole process.

You have to stay here with us LECOM-E'ers, we are low on members as it is, we can't have you going over to the Seton Hill thread . It was tough not to tell them, but i knew my bday was coming up so I figured i'd drive home (9 hours is entirely too long lol) and announce it to everyone on my bday. Honestly one of the best moments of my life.

I honestly don't believe everyone was accepted, I can think of a few people I encountered that I thought may not have been accepted because of their attitude throughout the interview/day. Even if they did accept us all, we were still the first 40 for an interview!

Hahaha yeah I would have been dead on the spot if I hadn't told my family about my acceptance within the first 10 minutes of getting it!

Congrats Avion on your acceptance!!!! 😀 I'm also doing Erie LDP!

Hahhaa of course we want you to stay over here with us FuturePittMed!!!

Anyone send in their deposit yet? I have to wait till I get paid next week before I can...

No, I don't think this would happen, I also saw a few people that I would be less sure of. Also remember LECOM might not be everyone's top choice school. For what I am reading here it is a high choice but other interviews may come up for others which may result in them giving up their spot.

I can also say from personal experience last year, when I interviewed at LECOM. I interviewed in mid February and from what I am gathering they still had PLB slots open (not sure where). LDP was full through I think b/c I got a letter saying they wanted to accept me but there was no room. So there are still spots open late. However based on last year it is my understanding that they do not hold spots for all their interviews. It is first come first serve but remember how big their class is.

My family would have killed me had a of not called them with in minutes of getting the letter. They were at work but they know when approx the mail comes.

As for my deposit. I got me letter around 11:15, and the check was in the mail by 2:30. It kind of helped that I have been off work all week due to not knowing what I was going to be doing with my life this fall. I know now.

I actually had something I was worried could possibly hold me back (though it was throughly explained in my PS) especially when I didn't get in the first couple batches of interviewers...I have since gotten my interview invite and I'm thinking they are just going through them as they get completed.

congrats again on the acceptance! can I ask what you mean about some of the people's attitudes that u don't think were accepted? and how did u prepare for the interview? I'm lookin through the interview feedbacks but just wondering what else others have done to prepare

i have been under review for erie since july 13th-ish and the email said i would hear back within 30 days. guess ill find out in less than 10 days. I also was worried that there was something holding me back even though nothing was mentioned on the portal site. i called but they said unless it states im missing something on the site, i probably have everything in

Hrm... I wonder.. has anybody heard of a "waitlist status" for LECOM? I am wondering if they are just offering the invites to the high MCAT scores right away, then the rest of us are "under review" until later. You know keep adding to the applicant pool, then skimming the best off of the top and the ones left under are kept "under review." Thoughts?

I think they are just super busy with oncoming classes. They scheduled one set of interviews very early before classes started then nothing for several weeks, I'm assuming because they have to start preparing and getting classes started. This would also explain why they are so slow to update. If you were fortunate enough to have all your stuff in before they got tied down with classes they were very quick to update. Now that they are busy getting everyone going it takes much longer.

That is just my guess anyways.

Its possible they are busy with starting some of the other programs at this point... However we (I'm an OMSI) are almost finished with our second week of class. I don't know the complete administrative breakdown up at Erie, so I couldn't say whether that has anything to with it or not. I know it's hard to wait but remember it is still AMAZINGLY early in the cycle, and many of my classmates this year and myself interviewed in March and were accepted so there is still plenty of time to get and interview.

I am not sure what HockeyDr saw and I don't want to be too specific on the public forum but there were a few interviewees that were very aloof and did not speak to other interviewees. There were only a few and I don't know how they did in their small group interview but I kind of thought that maybe they weren't going to fare well. Also, there were a couple people that were not dressed in business formal attire and I strongly believe that will get them the axe.

I spent hours preparing for this thing! Looking over SDN's interview feedback, LECOM's website, reading a book on interviewing for med school. I had so much ready to say and in the end they did a group interview and all I got to answer were two very standard med school interview questions. 🙁 But it worked out okay in the end. 🙂

Definitely! I believe that not dressing appropriately probably negatively affected them, especially since LECOM has a dress code stating that students need to dress professionally.

To prepare for the interview, I read the ENTIRE 2009 LECOM secondary thread, the interview feedback page, and pretty much the entire LECOM website and took some notes on questions I wanted to ask them, I even brought the questions with me in my padfolio thing; I also read a book on the new health care reform and what it entailed, which I'm glad I did because there was a question about healthcare (not specially the new law, but more general)...oh and spending about 3 weeks or so obsessing about the interview to the point where it was pretty much the only thing I talked about with my family and boyfriend!

and how did u prepare for the interview? I'm lookin through the interview feedbacks but just wondering what else others have done to prepare

I did a lot of mock interviews. Some were in person, others were over skype and others were by myself. One of the big things was seeing what different sounding questions are really asking the same thing. Unfortunately as already mentioned I do not think it did me much good due to the group setting. Having been through the group interview I would prepare for it by talking/debating about health care, health related problems and health politics. Another bit of advise, since it is closed file they know nothing about you. In my group when we did our self introductions we were to give one unique fact about ourselves, so have something good that they will remember.

Pretty much what everyone else has covered. I felt some people were under-dressed (not trying to be mean, I couldn't afford a nice suit either). Some of the responses from people that I heard seemed stereotypical and rehearsed at some points. Just my opinion, I could be completely off with my assessment.

As for preparation for the interview, I read through the interview feedback section, and mentally answered the questions why medicine, why D.O, and an interesting fact or two about myself. As long as you're confident, and believe what you're saying, you will be in good shape.

im definitely wearing a suit but im curious now as to what people wore that was not business formal attire. polos?

gonna hit the interview preparation hard this weekend and do what all of you have suggested.

whens your interview traitorman?

im definitely wearing a suit but im curious now as to what people wore that was not business formal attire.

As long as you wear a conservative suit in a dark color you'll be fine. It doesn't have to be an $800 suit. The adcoms know not everyone comes from wealth. I couldn't afford an expensive outfit, either. But you have to play the game and make an effort to dress the part.

I got my suit at a mall department store. Might also want to check places like Goodwill (that is where I plan to buy my stuff for next year). I think I currently only have two dress shirts and one pair of dress pants.

hi everybody, my primary application has been released to schools for more than a week now. I have received almost all the secondaries so far but I haven't heard from LECOM 🙁 How long did it take for your guys to receive their secondary

Give it a little time. I was worried about a similar situation as you and then I received all my secondaries the Wednesday after I got worried. I believe the AACOMAS schools receive their information from AACOMAS on Tuesdays, so stay patient until next Thursday. If you still haven't received any you may need to speak with AACOMAS to make sure everything is in order with your primary application.

thanks Longshanks, i guess i was just being a little paranoid

Hey for those who interviewed on the 16th, what was the schedule for the day?

Also does anybody know if Friday's interviews will also be a group interview?

I have the same question as well.

I hate group interviews. I hope I won't say anything stupid and make myself look bad in front of all those people 🙁

meet at 745, information session until roughly 10, interview from 10-1130, lunch from 1130-12, financial aid 12-1230, and finally, tour of the fitness center and LECOM until roughly 2. It was something close to that.

And for the group interview....it really was not that bad at all. They will ask you to describe yourself, and then one specific question (i.e. describe a challenge and what you did to overcome it, or what will you do ten years from now with your LECOM degree, etc). It will be intimidating for the first 30 seconds and then you'll be glad that it was a group interview instead of an individual one.

Yeah... Honestly I was terrified of the possibility of a group interview but you should feel lucky if you get the opportunity. It is so much easier than answering question after question about yourself. You just have to participate, there are no wrong answers...Unless you are a psychopath I guess. Group interviews are awesome.

I know it says men must wear a dress shirt with a tie to class, but will the administration let you slide wearing a half sleeve dress shirt? It's pretty hot here in the central valley so all of my shirts are half sleeve (Would be nice not to have to buy a weeks worth of dress shirts). Thanks.

Who all is interviewing on the 27th? I think it'd be cool if we met up at some point the night before, or at least wave to eachother at the interview!?

Hey everyone, I am interviewing on 9/24 at Erie and wondering if there are any female applicants out there who would want to split a hotel room the night before? Save money and it might be fun to have someone to talk to!

I'm not 100 percent sure but a current student was there to answer our questions and he was wearing a half sleeve dress shirt. So probably it is ok.

You can wear short sleeve, but the majority wear long sleeve. Yes you're in central valley but you're going to be in Erie which is the complete opposite.

Might be nice to buy new shirts anyway; have a lot of color options. I've easily tripled my dress wardrobe since coming here. Went from 6-7 ties to 40+

Same here. I have heard from all the other schools except LECOM.

Hey thanks for your answers guys. You're right though, long sleeves would be more appropriate for Erie's climate. Still, how would people know my what a hard dude I am unless they can see my powerful forearms and questionable tattoos...

"What they call you, man?"
"Jughead! Jughead!"
"Who do you run with?"
"The Archies man, the Archies."

You're so lucky you have someone to stay with! You'll have to message me closer to with what you'll be wearing so I can find you and we can chat it up that day!

man, some of ya'll are tripping! relax! be patient. it's a necessary quality for your future career.

Status just changed to invited for interview, woohoooo! Anyone know about how long it takes until they send an email to schedule it?

I received the e-mail with the date within minutes of checking my status.

That is unless the date on the e-mail is in the more Euro/international Day/Month/Year format.
