Someone owes me an apology. It's extremely rude to ask a stranger their height and weight. That's very personal information, like asking a man the size of his penis or the number of partners one has had. It's super inappropriate and I have ever right to tell you that's none of your business.
And then you completely reject my valid complaint by implying I'm menstruating? Are you 12? That's not how grown ups talk to each other
Height/weight is a common question to be asked in regard to fitness- you can't size up someone and offer advice without a rough idea of where they're currently at. I wouldn't take too much offense to that in regard to the topic of the thread. People will frequently ask each other's height and weight in fitness threads in a completely unsolicited manner and without ill intent, it's like SOP. Joking about your period is totes unforgivable though.

When I was bulking, I had to eat to the point of bloating to meet my daily.
Sometimes people really underestimate how much food they need.

I cringed reading this, hoping you're a woman and not a guy...

My question wasn't as rude as her response, she could have simply not answered if it was that offensive. 🙂

Idk man, the patients and the staff loved me during my 2 year volunteering time at the hospital.

I really hope you don't diagnose people based off of one symptom the same way you've labeled my personality based off of one post.

Your lack of class continues. Keep it up champ!

I'm betting a lot of guys wouldn't want to give their height if they're under 6ft. I mean seriously, it's a stupid series of questions; this isn't bb.com.

Didn't say it wasn't stupid, just that it was common.
You said you can't give advice to someone without their height and weight? That implies asking is not stupid on an advice thread. I contend that it is irrelevant to the kind of advice applicable to this thread and especially the social venue of these forums.

No ones putting up pics, no one is putting up logs and it's SDN.

I, for one, intend to take this thread very seriously.

A piece of advice can be very useful for one person and useless for the next. A 110lb girl shouldn't be using the same fitness advice that's ideal for someone who's 150lbs. Weight does matter.

LOL wow. This thread went crazy. On one hand, the height/weight question was asked very tactless, but I agree it was in the context of a health discussion. I think both of you should focus on the positive thing from both ends. Touchpause13 should accept that, while tactless, it wasn't maliciously said, and studentp0x, you should accept that you asked in a tactless way and now you learned not to make that mistake again. Lets go back to peaceful pre-osteo.

Sooo going back to the main topic, do people find a difference in when they work out? Like are you more energetic if you work out the morning of? Or do you usually just squeeze it in somewhere and find it doesn't matter what time?

Whatever. I don't think he was trying to be a jerk with the initial question, just clueless and rude, but he should have been able to respect my privacy without bringing up the fact that I have a vagina and those tend to bleed.

I agree that was uncalled for, and you do deserve an apology for it.

Honestly I've always preferred to work out in the afternoon or at night. If I do it in the morning I end up feeling pooped by midday

I personally can't work out in the morning. My lifts are always weak and my workouts lack intensity. Back when I used expensive pre-workouts I couldn't do morning workouts and I still can't. I've had some really great results in the early afternoon (1-2pm) or later at night (9pm-11pm).

switching gears... i'm starting to freak out because my pre-OMM workout regimen has been going great for about 2 months but i've just hit a major snag. i was on the last set and rep of leg presses the other day and i suddenly got hit with the gnarliest headache i've ever experienced in my life. i got up and almost fell to the floor in the middle of the gym. every time i've tried to lift ANYTHING since then, or even walking up stairs, i get hit with the same thing. reading up on meathead forums i think i've identified them as exertion headaches. anyone ever suffer from these?? i was seeing some epic gains and now i can't lift at all 🙁

I used to get a little light headed and head achy after a good heavy set of leg press. Maybe you should check your blood pressure? Do more cardio. Or maybe you aren't getting enough sleep. Idk, the gym headaches are a toughy, and they are always always annoying! I'll be in the middle of cardio and start to feel like that and mentally drained, but it usually gets better after a little longer. I really think those headaches are a function of workout intensity, and by that I mean weight, rep number, and rest duration.

agreed, totally related to intensity. pretty sure i was holding my breath on my last rep too. felt like kimbo slice judo chopped me in the back of my head

Were you using any pre workout? I imagine that might not help.

Agreed. For Triathlon training, mornings have been great for long cardio (cycling and swimming), but very sub par for sprint/plyo/weight workouts.

Anyone have a good website for quick and healthy recipes to take for work? I need more variety in the ole lunch box!

This thread has inspired me, so I started working out this last week. I used be very active (football player and wrestler in HS) and even used to run 6 miles 4-5 times a week my first year of college but once my classes ramped up in difficulty my diet went to crap and I put on a bit of weight. Hopefully we can all stick to our health plans and build good habits for school. I would rather let my med school grades suffer a little but feel good physically. I just wish I could have kept it up the last couple of years.

That's god punishing you for doing leg presses instead of squats.

No big deal. I feel the same way as well, and let me tell you: Getting back into it is hard, but sooner or later it's gonna be second nature again. I don't even think too much about it, lifting is a part of my life. I'd try to get that habit established before school starts.

After checking out bodybuilding.com, I also found that many of their more popular workout programs include recipes! (IE: Jamie Eason)

I'm a firm believer that all males should do starting strength followed by 5/3/1

I have no idea what that means. Are you referring to the Jamie Eason workout plan starting with 4 weeks strength training before adding cardio?

actually the leg press incident occurred directly after 5 sets of squats, which i perform routinely, as evidenced by the rock hard ass showcased in my avatar

I edited and put links in my post.

Starting Strength is a beginner weightlifting program aimed at maximizing gains/growth for a beginner.

5/3/1 is a template that could potentially serve you for life.

If the rationale is to get a good strength base before moving into cardio, Id say that as a beginner you don't want to burn yourself out, but it's not necessarily going to impede progress. I think if you plan on doing some sort of cardio then there's no reason to wait. I look at things from a life long standpoint and not in a matter of weeks. It will take time to make progress on anything.

Yah, I started that program recently (I have 0 idea what I'm doing so I need a plan to just follow and her's was most popular), but I've been adding my own cardio in anyways. And I jumprope.

Cardio is SUCH a pain but I made it more interesting.

I'll get on the spinning bike or treadmill behind an overweight person and pretend I'm a lion chasing them. I incorporate this into my HIIT routine so it gives them a chance to get away when I rest but at 100% I'm back at them.

30-45 minutes goes by SO quickly.

Note to self: don't ever get on a treadmill anywhere near you

This thread has great info, I need some advice though. I am a pretty big dude (big as in weight) played HS football and wrestling. I guess I'll share my height to weight ratio so you guys get a better idea of what I look like. 5'7/224

Now should I loose weight first and gain muscle from there? I was never a nutrition/workout freak so any advice would be helpful. 🙂

I'm assuming you haven't lifted in a while? If that's true then you should lose the weight first. Check out the links I have in my previous post above. For nutrition Id do simple carbs around your workouts and just do a plant/lean meat based diet.

Gluten has a lot to do with inflammation from what I've read online.
I've heard of a lot of people cutting out gluten and their spine issues magically disappear.

As for being a vegan bodybuilder, you're talking about being the 1% of the .0001%.
Be a man, hunt for your meat!

And stay away from crossfit kids, unless you enjoy being injured and crippled while you're competing against a bunch of people trying to see who can get more reps in.

Cool thanks. Should I go down to 195-200 lbs? Or lower? Just want to be fit and look muscular.

That's totally up to you and your goals and idea of what fit and muscular look like. Generally speaking, if you lower your bodyfat % you'll look more aesthetic.

It's good to set goals, and in general it should be 1-2 lbs of fat loss per week. What's your diet like now? Edit...190 lbs at 5'7 seems like a good goal to me. You'd still have a lot of mass in my opinion. Once again, it depends on how you feel. For instance, I'm 6'1 220 lbs, but I don't feel very big at all. I'm reluctantly losing body fat. But I think this is a good approach for me personally, because I have gained 30+ lbs without gaining significant fat. It's just that I wasn't down to single digits when I started.

You can't go wrong either way, as long as you're lifting heavy stuff and your diets good. As long as you follow basic principles you should be fine. I would also suggest low volume, high intensity for both lifting and cardio since you're going to be dieting. I'd also start off light to let your body get used to both weights and a caloric deficit. I think the biggest mistake is trying to achieve results too fast. You want to make habits that you can keep for life. Lifting is second nature to me now and it will get that way to you eventually if you commit to it.
