I posted this list in another thread, but I figure that I should copy it here. Here are all of the online MPH programs that I could find. I've broken them up into schools that are fully online, partially online, and online certificate programs. Unless otherwise stated, all of these universities are accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). Be sure to check out the schools in your particular state as some give discounts for in-state residents.

Fully online
University of Massachusetts - Offers MPH's in Public Health Practice (42 credits) and Nutrition (44 credits), $542 per credit. The Public Health Practice route requires 3 years of health care experience.
Oregon Health and Science University - Offers the Primary Health Care & Health Disparities track online. I cannot find information about tuition costs.
Loma Linda University - 56 credits, $570 per credit. Requires 2 years of previous work experience.
Benedictine University - Offers several concentrations (66 quarter credits each). This program is NOT accredited by CEPH
Walden University - 56 quarter credits, $370 per credit. NOT accredited by CEPH.
A. T. Still University - 60 credits. Not much information is posted on the school's website. There is also a 5-course certificate in public health available. NOT accredited by CEPH.
Florida International University - 45 credits, $776.81 per credit.
University of Minnesota - Only the Maternal and Child Health MPH is offered online. It is 42 credits, at $526 per credit.
Des Moines University - 45 credits, $420 per credit. No GRE is required, but you must complete an internship as part of the program.

Partially online
Emory University - Students are required to be on campus for weekend at the beginning and end of each semester. 42 credits, $1080 per credit hour. 5 years of work experience are required for admission.
University of North Carolina - Offers many specialties, ranging from 42-48 credits. The rules regarding campus visits are handled by individual departments. $538 per credit, plus $32 per semester.
Johns Hopkins University - 80% of the MPH is offered online
University of South Florida - Offers concentrations in Public Health Practice and Public Health Administration, as well as several certificates. You are required to be on-campus for the 5-day capstone course and seminar at the conclusion of the program. Three years of work experience are required. 43 credits, $941.13 per credit.
Nova Southeastern University - 42 credits, $450 per credit, plus an additional $875 a year. Requires your presence in Ft. Lauderdale for the beginning and conclusion of the degree program---one weekend each.

Certificates
University of Michigan - 16 credits, $597.63 per credit plus an additional $94.69 per term.
University at Albany (SUNY) - Offers certificate programs in different departments for $455 per credit.
Drexel University - Offers a 9-credit certificate in epidemiology at $770 a credit.
University of Florida - Offers the 5-course certificate in public health online for a total cost of $4500. UF is NOT accredited by CEPH.

I just wanted to clarify that the UNC MPH/MHA program is NOT fully online...you are required to attend campus 3 times per year (two 8-day sessions and one 4-day session)...this can be a real constraint for those that have to take time off work/school...

I also would add Oregon Health Sciences University. They have a fully online MPH program in Primary Health Care and Health Disparities. www.oregonmph.org

I have been always intrigued to get MPH degree. However, I am working and there is lots of demand. Compared to other MPH courses(not online), what do you guys think of taking online MPH courses? Are they compatible in terms of education and quality? How about the requirements? Do I need to take GRE? I am an infectious disease clinical fellow and would like to take MPH after I am done with fellowship.

Answer will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

For UNC's program you have to take the GRE - unless you have a post-doctoral degree (MD, DO, DDS, DMD, PhD. As far as other courses, I can't compare directly (because I have never attended one!), but I imagine it is slightly different. At UNC, we attend campus 3 times per year for the majority of our classes. It involves 2 days of finishing up last semesters' classes (presentations usually), 3 days of executive workshops, and 2 days to start the next semesters' classes. The on-campus time gives us a chance to meet our fellow classmates and the instructors, as well as the time to attend a required number of workshops (effective presentations, public speaking, etc).

From my perspective, this time is really invaluable since much of the MPH program is group-work and presentations. Our program uses a proprietary version of Blackboard for online classes that enables us to have "whiteboard conferences" where we can meet with group members and discuss online our presentations/papers. Most classes meet a couple times online throughout the semester for discussions or teaching. For example, my stats class meets weekly on Thursdays at 9-10:30 pm (keep in mind that my program is designed for working professionals, so we tend to meet at night). However, my strategic management course meets only 4 times during the semester and not until the month of March. It is at the instructors' discretion of course.

There are a few courses that are solely online (offered through separate departments). I find them to be easier mostly because you set your own deadlines, and the material is generally much easier to comprehend just by reading a tutorial online. Overall, these courses are a bit less interesting and certainly less interactive, and I see them more as a requirement to graduate rather than a substantive aspect of my education.

One last note - our instructors are the same faculty members that teach the residential MPH courses so I think that adds value to my educational experience. Furthermore, I think the true strength of UNC's Executive MPH and MHA programs is the breadth of experience that you obtain working with other working professionals is certainly far greater than what I imagine one would get in a classroom of students that just finished their undergraduate degree.

I think the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine has an online program

They do, although they call it an MSc(Public Health). They also have Masters in Clinical Trials and Epidemiology.

Their course info can be found here

U of Michigan also has an executive MPH program denoted as the On Job/On Campus (OJ/OC) schedule. I have been accepted and will most likely accept the offer as long as my employer gives me the go ahead and will fit the bill. They should let me know some time this week. It looks like an excellent program (my program emphasis will be industrial hygiene).

Greetings! If you are interested in pursuing an online MPH or related public health graduate degree at a CEPH-accredited school of public health, you can search for available programs at http://www.asph.org/document.cfm?page=931.

UNECOM offers a completely online MPH but it is NOT accredited by CEPH yet. CEPH has a scheduled visit in the fall of 2009 which should make the final determination from what I understand. They are in the application process though.

How do medical schools view online MPH programs like these? Can they be used in a way similar to post-baccs or SMPs, or are they really for people who already have experience in the healthcare field?

Most of these programs do require work experience before starting. The degree you receive won't say that you attended an online curriculum. The prestige will come from the school name.

have any one of you taken or know somebody who has taken MSc in Epidemiology from London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine? If so, could you please apprise about the quality of course and support provided in the course? I heard from someone that their course vcontent and textbooks offered are often outdated.

I have a hard time getting over the stigma of online courses; however, I have taken some of the online courses at the University of Minnesota, and I have been very happy with the quality of their online courses.

Des Moines University has on online MPH program and they don't require the GRE if you have above a 3.0 GPA. They also offer an MHA program online or a combined MPH/MHA

M.P.H. from the University of Illinois at Springfield. Online, non-CEPH; elsewhere the department recently indicated publicly that it is looking to move towards CEPH accreditation. The degree offered online includes a Concentration in Environmental Health, and is accredited by the National Environmental Health Science & Protection Accreditation Council. hi there. im very interested in the MPH program. Im a biology major and i just know that i want to get a mesters degree. I was just wondering how much money do you make having a MPH deploma? thank you for all the replies!!

What will a physician (eg Internist, Surgeon..etc) benefit from his MPH? I am not considering non-clinical career.

Is it better to get a certification or mph? One is shorter than the other. I am applying for residency and I have to beef up my cv.

I am also trying to find a 1 year online mph program that is accredited aswell if on exists.

Does anyone know the difference between getting into a Preventative Medicine Residency Program and getting their MPH versus an MPH as a general admit to a school of public health? I recently resigned from my residency program, want to get my MPH, but am unsure if I should apply to a PM residency or just apply to public health schools...

Thanks for any input!

Just wondering if you have experience with the program at UI-Springfield. Its one of the only programs that offers an online MPH with an emphasis in Environmental Health that I can find. I'm worried that its not CEPH accredited. Just wondering if you are recommending the program...

An excellent program from what is perhaps the most highly regarded SOPH in Europe. The cost, however, is quite high especially since the USD is falling in value.

Hey all:

I looked for so long for a good online master of public health program, and landed on benedictine University. My fiend goes there. But I enrolled to online class. It is fully online. I love it so far. My professors is amazing and eager to help. I am in a Disaster Management program http://www.onlinedegrees-benedictine.com/master_of_public_health_disaster_management.asp. and I love it.

Honetsly, I don't think CEPH accreditation matters that much these days when you are very well experienced.

A Fonhey

Hi all,
I am thinking about getting online MPH degree from Walden University; however, this school is not accredited by CEPH. What is the down side to it? help would be appreciated.

M.P.H. from American Public University or American Military University. Both are divisions of the American Public University System, a for-profit focused on distance learning for working students in the military and public service, but open to students from all backgrounds. Online, non-CEPH. Regionally accredited; additionally to this, nationally accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council.

Two other things:

Just wondering if you have experience with the program at UI-Springfield.

No; I only read about it, and passed it on. :)

http://www.independence.edu/Programs/HSMSPublicHealth.php

Strictly online and accredited. 36 credits total. You don't have to take the GRE.

Readers should note that Independence University is not regionally accredited, and not accredited by the CEPH. The overwhelming majority of degree-granting schools in the U.S. are regionally accredited. Independence University, formerly the California College of Health Sciences, is legitimate, and is nationally accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council, a recognized national accreditor with the U.S. Department of Education and the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Some contexts may require or expect a CEPH degree; even more may require or expect a regionally accredited degree. Here's a very short thread on DETC accreditation.

Hey u have given very good information over here and it will rally useful for the people who need it.

I graduated at LLU at a high rate. However there is an MPH completely online at $100 per unit. It comes from a high quality graduate institution from the Philippines. It is worlwide.

There is another CEPH accredited FULLY online MPH program at the UNiversity of West Florida. The program requires GRE scores for applicants with no prior terminal degree and there is no residency requirement. The GRE scores can be substituted for the GRE. See http://www.uwf.edu/sahls/masters-ph
