LMU-DCOM (DeBusk COM) Discussion thread Part 2 2007-2008

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Shout outs to Nascardoc, Piratesse, Heath, and Amanda for coming to Oasis. Sorry we kept you out so late on Monday! 😉 Inquiring minds, you know.

Thanks for such a warm welcome, and especially to MJB for coming up to say hi! (and incidentally, leading the tour!) It meant a great deal to put a face with the name, and to get the inside scoop from students.

Keep your fingers crossed for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello to all the SDN lurkers from my interview group.... Ari, Kent, Alex, Seth, Angie, Andrew, Drew, Seoulsister, Moises..did I foget anyone? Now feel free to post! 😀

It was nice meeting you all the other night. I would've stayed later if I didn't have to go home and get some sleep (I went straight to bed when I got home).
How did your interview go???

The only school I was unimpressed with to the point of annoyance was TUNV. As has been mentioned on here before, it looks like they bought a Costco and set up shop. For the money they want you to pay I found this offensive. I read someone say their anatomy lab is nice but I've interviewed at three schools and I've yet to see an anatomy lab that wasn't adequately "nice." I blew that interview by telling them I already got accepted at other places and by answering in reply to the obligatory "why Nevada" I said "I don't have a good answer to that." Needless to say I got rejected.

That being said I thought Touro CA was nice enough (on the inside) and Western was pretty sweet as well. I just decided I didn't want to go to school in Cali.

Anyway my interview is on the 12th of February. Is the whole Pizza Night at Oasis thing informal? Are the med students regulars there?

Absolutely Mike! Download that thing and get it sent in. 👍

OK secondary was overnighted to them yesterday 🙂 Really wish I had applied earlier, but nothing I can do about that at this point except wait!

good luck to all the interviewers!

send some mojo my way 😉

so how is the ladies situation in harrogate? haha

Has any class of 2012 students received their matriculation packet yet with the rest of the stuff we need to fill out such as health forms, and background check, etc? Thanks. I'm just concerned since I sent in my deposit in early 12/07 and still have not received anything yet besides the finaid packet

thanks

whatchoo talking 'bout Prions?

I'm talkin bout how wonderful the school is! I only interviewed at DMU and LMU and honestly, LMU-DCOM has the nicest, most technologically advanced facilities. Aside from that, the students, staff and faculty were ALL very friendly and accommodating. You can just feel the excitement in the air! You can just tell how much hard work and dedication has been put into DCOM and it really shows in everyone's enthusiasm.

I hope your experience is as good as mine was. 😉

Good Luck on the interview! :luck:

Shhhhh.....stop telling everyone how great it is, we want there to be a spot saved for me

so how is the ladies situation in harrogate? haha

Speaking for the ladies, we're all hot and single!😀 Our guys are all hot and married. 👎 Slim pickins from our side, lol.

I will be there next year and thats all the ladies need. 😉 Has everyone who has been accepted joined the facebook group? If you havent yet you should. LMU-DCOM c/o 2012. Good luck to everyone waiting and congrats to those that don't have to wait anymore.

Whoa, whoa, WHOA! How bout 49 girls and 101 guys and plenty of those girls are married or in serious relationships too. I don't want to hear any complaints ladies. At the very least, you've got plenty to look at. It's 2:1...hopefully 2012 turns the tables. Apply now ladies! HAHAHA...but really, do:laugh:

Hey all! This is my first post but I'm a loyal follower and am incredibly impressed with the way everyone feels about DCOM. I'm interviewing on the 22nd (and pretty anxious!) and was wondering who else is going to be there! I look forward to meeting some of you at Oasis- I'll be the one there with my mom 🙂

Good luck to everyone! This is my first piece of positive feedback (although it occurred rather awkwardly) and I'm excited to experience DCOM first hand.

I would imagine the combined degrees might get going with more gusto once the new research building is completed...but I don't have any concrete knowledge on the subject...just a guess.

jackson, I'll be one of the folks doing your tour that day. I'll look forward to meeting you. Congrats on the interview.👍

I'm interviewing on the 22nd too... I posted that a while ago, but I don't think anyone saw it. Looking forward to meeting you both!

Thank you 😍 You girls aren't so bad either.....the single guys have good pickens 😉

I believe CCOM has 60% female in their classes....3 girls for every 2 guys...not bad!

It was nice meeting you too. Like you said, its always nice to be able to put a face with the name. Good luck with everything, I really hope everything goes well for ya. And don't worry, you didn't keep me up. I usually don't go to sleep until after midnight. We always have a good time with you guys and enjoying talking and just hanging out. Its a great study break and a nice, informal way for you guys to meet us and learn more about the school. Much better than sitting in your hotel room all night freaking out about the interview, thats for sure.

BTW, thats pretty freaking impresive you rremember all those names.

Well...I'll be adding to the gang of married guys...but I'm still looking for my first mistress 😉.

I'm totally kidding by the way. I'm from Knoxville though and I'm sure I can come up with tons of friends that would want to date a future doc.

lol, same here, seems to be a lot of married couples at the school.

I was wondering the samething. Should be soon though, I know that deposit put a big dent in the Christmas funds.

Really??? I might know "a friend" that would be interested, lol.🙄

Halloweenie, I just saw that the title of your earlier thread was holler vs, holla.. That made me lol! I remember talking about that.
 I had a great time visiting with you guys as well. I'm sending everybody good vibes!

anyone interviewing on feb 1st? for the first years, what does DCOM have in store for MS3 and MS4? As the area is really rural, where will the clinical rotations be held? thanks...back to studying for the mcats!

weren't there 11 of us in the int group?? i think i forgot someone in my earlier post then. sorry! 😳

the waiting is killing me. :scared: not to get ahead of myself, but just to be prepared just in case, how long from the letter are the deposits due? :luck: to all my fellow interviewees!!

Umm, at this point I believe it's 2 weeks. Good luck! :luck::luck:

Did any of you keep old undergrad books (like biochem, anatomy, physio) as a second reference? I'm thinking that these books will be pretty different from med school texts. Should I sell them or bring them?

Thanks 🙂

I kept my books. I use them to lift my bed so I can store things under it. 😀 If you liked your undergrad books I'm sure they might be helpful to you but in all honesty those books will go in to SO much more detail than you will really need to know for class. Some people may think differently but that's my opinion.

Hey DCOM'ers I wanted to let everyone know I have withdrwan my acceptance to DCOM in order to go to VCOM. While I loved DCOM and it was a very difficult decision, VCOM was just a better fit for my wife and I. So, those of you on the waitlist, your chances just got better. Good Luck to all and I will check in from time to time to see what's happening at DCOM!

I would also think the same. Many of these books go into way too much detail and you will just be saturating yourself in useless detail that will most probably confuse you and will not be tested on

Hey guys, I'm new on here. I submitted my supplemental the first week of January, and my LORs should be in within the next week. I visited LMU-DCOM before Christmas and loved it there! So, I'm definitely hoping I get an interview! Once I'm complete, does anyone know about how long it will be til I hear something?

I know I'm a little late in the process...so cross your fingers for me! 🙂

the only bad thign about applying late is you may end up on a wait list instead of the acceptance list...especially at DCOM since last year they accepted everyone at first and had a hugeee waiting list, but I think you should be fine

Hopefully they changed their acceptance strategy from last year

I hope so too! Thanks for the info. When I visited, I spoke with both Paul Carney and Jody Caldwell, and have also spoken to both over the phone as well. So hopefully they will remember me from that, or at least remember my name. Maybe that could have a positive influence on my interview! 👍

Hello you.... I believe we entertained ourselves with a bit of Japanese Honeysuckles the other day. What do you think?

I received a packet from them about a month ago including all of the financial information. It pretty much gave detailed instructions on how to fill out the FASFA and the like. Jody mentioned that there is another packet coming our way in Feb regarding shot records, final transcripts, etc.

I sent in my deposit around the first of December so that may be why I've already heard back. Yours should be coming though, depending on when you sent them your bankruptcy application.

I have already received my finaid packet as well. I also sent my deposit in at the same time as you.

I was wondering when that matriculation packet will be sent

I don't think it's true that you have to fill out the finaid packet in order to receive the matriculation packet as the finaid stuff really isn't due till around summer time

No no. Jody said we would be receiving the matriculation packet around late Feb regardless.

Hello you.... I believe we entertained ourselves with a bit of Japanese Honeysuckles the other day. What do you think?

 Haha, I believe you're right. What a small world we have here. I just found this thing a few weeks ago and now I'm addicted to it.

I was at first. I haven't been on in a few weeks actually. It's funny that we were just talking about LMU Wednesday and here we are! It will only get worse from here on out. Especially after you interview!

I practically live on this thing, but I just registered and this is my first post,

Is anyone interviewing on February 5th?

I graduated a semester early and am looking for a job, is that gonna look bad at the interview that I haven't found one yet and am kinda just taking some random classes at a community college?

i have my undergrad books, but they just collect dust. If you need a book, most likely you will use your med textbook or a review book. Before throwing away your anatomy book, which one do you have? If it is clinically oriented anatomy (big moore) or essential clinical anatomy (baby moore), both by kieth moore, then you want to keep that one. I highly recommend one of those books for you guys anyway. But for biochem or physio, check the booklist on DCOM's website, if you happen to have the same one, keep it, if not, do what you like with it.

Congrats on coming out of the lurker closet . I really wouldn't worry about this at all. They know the job is only temporary and they won't mind seeing you taking some classes you enjoy. Its making you more diverse and you're having some fun before school starts. I took a lot of CC classes and they didn't hurt me at all.

I have Principles of Human Anatomy by Tortora. I might just sell all my books to make some extra $$ (that $2000 cash deposit really hurt). 😀

Thanks for your suggestions!

I bet you've never been so excited to spend $2000 in your life though, huh? 😉

question: does LMU-DCOM make the guys wear a shirt and tie to class everyday?
