The sad thing is my cat could actually eat a small dog (or even a medium size dog) He is a maine coon/bengal mix at a 6months of age he is already 20#'s

By the time I get to school I'll be able to ride him

I feel like that's something I would have to see because he sounds awesome. And I don't even really like cats.

That is a big cat!!! Captain Hook is 17 lbs. He's a lazy pirate hooker.

I don't really like cats either, he isn't really like a cat, more like a really smart little dog (because I don't consider most dogs under 30lbs to actually be of the breed 'canine' I consider most little dogs to be barking rats)

He plays fetch better then any dog I"ve ever had, and i've owned a lot of retrievers so that is pretty bad. Since he is so big he doesn't really have the agility of most cats so he often falls off of things or misses when he jumps from one place to the next....I tell you everyday it is something new with that cat. Maine coons have the best personalities

My sister's kitties are maine coon, and they are so silly. Lots of personality.

Can I just say that I was looking over some of our earlier posts and I've decided that med school makes you crazy.

Has anyone gotten a phone call yet? Waiting is the worst!

I agree med school must make you crazy, which makes me fear for my future since I'm already half-way there.

Don't worry, we'd be more than happy to help push you over the edge. 😀

I wouldn't expect any phone calls this week b/c we have COCA, the accrediting board, here at school until the end of the week. Thus, Dr. Stowers is really busy and most likely won't be making calls until next week, I would imagine.

And yes, med school does make you go crazy....seriously.

I'm pretty sure that something broke just now. 😱

Did you say that I have to wait another week?

Awww, I'm sorry Nick. 🙁 Waiting is the worst. Maybe they'll send out letters in the mail since Dr. Stowers can't make the calls? Check your mail box!

I hope you hear something soon! :luck:

Well, I suppose that I spoke too soon about wanting to know if I was accepted. After checking the mail box, I just now found out that I'm on the alternate list.

Does anyone know what my chances are being on the alternate list?

I'm not sure what your chances are but if it makes you feel any better I was put on the alternate list in November and was accepted the beginning of Jan. I don't think my grades or anything are stellar so good luck. It's not impossible.

Well, I suppose that I spoke too soon about wanting to know if I was accepted. After checking the mail box, I just now found out that I'm on the alternate list.

Hey...so this is in response to the PM you sent me..I just wanted to say it here so everyone can read it as well

I was put on the alternate list in 03/07. I did not send in a letter of intent (i still should have). However, I did email Mr. Carney once a month from 03/07-06/07 to say that I am still interested

In the begenning of 07/07 I was again asked by mr. carney if i wanted to remain on the list. I said yes

1 week later I was told that I was in the top 10 in the list and to keep my phone on me at all times. at the end of 07/07, he told me that I was in the top 3 and be ready to move down at a moments notice in case one does not show up in his or her seat on first day of orientation. Mr Carney also said since you are willing to move down here in a seconds notice and for the anxiety that you are probably going through, the adcom has decided to give you an automatic acceptance for next years class. I gladley agreed (no more aacomas for me 😛).

I was emailed my acceptance letter a few weeks later and told that the deposit would be due by 12/14/07 if I agreed..that's my story

honestly, being on the list is a crapshoot...

they will go over everyones app in the alternate list and choose accordingly...i think they choose based on geography..but im not sure

The best thing for you to do is send in a letter of intent and email him once a month (don't email too many times) to show you are still interested and this is your dream school...

hope this helps

Unfortunatly, for me, everyone showed up for orientation...

ND cant help that he smells (and that he's poor company)... He's from Chicago ya know.... Im gonna fit in great with the rest of you crazies. I cant wait 😀. Especially to see the baby tiger and the lazy hooker pirate cat. As well as murphdog and the rest of all the animals that seem to be amassing themselves at DCOM. I still need to get my pooch out with some cows and see how she does herding them... Are there any on campus with the Ag department?

Thanks Syncope82. I sent off my letter a few moments ago. I guess all I can do now is wait around.

I've definitely seen cow roaming the campus. I think someone told me they belong to Mr. DeBusk.

That's pretty cool.

Watch, I'll try and pet one of them and then be the first person EVER in the history of Harrogate to be trampled and killed by a cow.

They're afraid of your prions.. cuz they're bad!

Yup, we have a nice herd of Black Angus the belong to the vet techs.. They were given to the school by Mr. D. I think they'll start calving soon. Sooo cute!

Uh ohhh Prions is going to bring the mad cows with her  We had cows on my undergrad campus, I think the only school in Cali to have them. I remember giving a campus tour to a bunch of High School kids from Los Angeles, and when they saw the cows they were all WTF

Ok, AT&T had better work because I just bought a new phone!

You'll be fine with AT&T. Don't worry!😎

Truth. The only place that I get bad reception is down in the town of cumberland gap. And even then you're never there for every long. Unless it's Friday night...

I wanted to come down and check out the area again and even the building itself if they will allow me too..

now this whole cell phone ordeal gives me another reason...I want to make sure my sprint treo phone works down there before I sign another 2 year contract

I kind of want go backpacking in the area as well..any good suggestions and any takers?

Thanks

ah man...backpacking sounds so nice right now. I'm so jealous....

I haven't hiked it, but the ridge trail at the cumberland gap national historic park looks pretty cool. I plan to try it out when I get a chance.

Did you go to Pomona?

Probably Davis if there were lots of cows . . . it's total cow town out there. 😉

I just realized that you're from CA! I live in San Francisco right now. Where are you from? It will be nice to have a fellow Californian out in Tennessee!

Hey!

I'm in San Jose, CA and have my interview on the 22nd at DCOM! If I get in, I'm almost definitely movin' to Tennessee! DCOM is one of my top 2 choices 😳! So, hopefully a couple of us Californians will be moving to the South! (My mom is from the South (Mississippi) so I was taught good old southern hospitality AND have eaten grits all my life!) 😉

Roselee

This is what I think of grits: :barf:

😀Heehee..yes, they are an "acquired" taste. But, my mom's cornbread is to die for!!

Now the cornbread I could definitely go for! Yum! 😍

I'm from Burbank, but my brother goes to Berkeley so I used to go up north a lot. I love Nor Cal. I would love to live there, but the cost of living is astronomical.

There are about 6 Californians in the class of 2011 so you won't be alone... 🙂

Whenever I hear grits I think of my cousin vinny.

Marthea, how can you not like dumb and dumber? It should've won the oscar for best movie ever made.

I'm not big on adam sandler. I loved billy madison and happy gilmore, but after that it was all downhill. Spanglish may have been the worst movie I ever saw. Oh wait... no, that was Strange Wilderness.

Zoolander definitely does get better the more times you watch it. I HATED it the first time I saw it. My ex boyfriend loved it so he would make me watch it with him repeatedly. I didn't actually start to like it till around time 4, and now I fricken love it.

So, I'm looking into houses in Harrogate, and I think I might end up buying one with a pool. You all know what that means. Class of 2012 pool parties. Yay! We can water proof our books, or just wrap them in saran wrap, and study in the pool. It's a 4 bedroom. A friend from here will be living there with me, so if 2 people need a room to rent let me know.

My favorite hike so far was going up to Whiterock. Its a good day trip and a beautiful view. Its on the VA side of the Cumberland Gap Park. You can also go to the Sand Cave while you're up there, its just a mile or so from Whiterock. You should bring a camera if you do that one. I forgot mine when we went and I'm still kicking myself for not getting pictures up there. I think we spent about 5 hours or so round trip.

Spanglish may have been the worst movie I ever saw.

Um....it had Paz Vega in it...it wasn't all THAT bad....

paz-vega-picture-1.jpg

While I can see why one might say it sucked...I thought it was a lot better than a lot of other crap that's put out by Hollywood...

Oh, it also had another hottie in it in Tea Leoni...so, it had the "2 hot chicks" factor... 🙂

pools are a lot of work! that said, what area are you looking in? 🙄 i'll be buying also....and hopefully renting to some classmates as well. is it awful that i've never seen zoolander, spanglish, billy madison, or happy gilmore? i prefer dramas...or mysteries. i agree with mjb, some are more tolerable due to the 'hotness factor.' 😛

My nextel didn't get service south of Ohio, haha... good luck!

I can't believe how hard rentals are to find! Looks like we are going to have to buy a house too. My fiance does IT work here in Michigan so we'll probably find one somewhere between the school and wherever he can find a job. From the looks of the area, Knoxville may be the closest city looking for someone who knows any thing about technology 🙄 Any suggestions about where to apply?

All right! Nor Cal representin!

I lived in Atlanta, GA for 13 years, so moving back to the southland isn't that big of a shock. 😉 Oh and I loooooove grits!

Good luck on your interview! I'm sure you'll be great! :luck:

I was just about to say my favorite movie with Adam Sandler is Spanglish! 🙁 We own it. I may have to watch it today just to remind myself how good it is. 😉

And I loved Zoolander too, so there!

I love Spanglish! It was on TV last weekend and I watched it twice. 😉 The Mom (Adam Sandler's wife) makes me so mad though! She's mean. 🙁

Thanks Prions for the well wishes 🙂! If I get in, we'll have some grits together this fall! Are you working in SF or going to school?

I love Zoolander! It definitely grew on me after watching it "umpteen" times 😀

I went to school out here, graduated in 2006, and I've been working in a research lab since! I'm gonna miss it here . . . it's been my home for almost 6 years! 🙁 But Tennessee is beautiful and I'm excited to live somewhere new!

For a two day trip, you would want to do the Ridge Trail.. its a 20 miler. The Sand Cave and Whiterock are at one end of it.

Here is a link that includes info about Backcountry camping. Not much info on the actual Ridge Trail, but there is a map link on the page somewhere that probably shows it.

http://www.nps.gov/cuga/planyourvisit/outdooractivities.htm

Here is a pic of the view from Whiterocks.. stole it off the website!

Marthea! When I took Murphy on that hike he rolled around in that same puddle in the rocks that is in that picture... thats why he was all green when i brought him home, lol!

And I was the one that had to give him a bath. He also died a little that day. He was sooooooooo tired.
