LMU-DCOM (DeBusk COM) Discussion thread Part 2 2007-2008

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
i wish i had a dog now!

I come from an Indian family, and dogs roam free in India, therefore, most Indian's think of dogs as "dirty"..almost on the same level as rats

as a result, my parents would not allow a dog

I have always wanted a dog, but was never able to get one...i def won't be able to deal with one in med school and residency...🙁

that looks beautiful..thanks for the tip!

Hey, no problem! One of the coolest things about going up there is that you have to climb this really steep space through the rocks going up.. I don't know why, but it seems like you're climbing through the jungle ... weird, but awesome!😀

For a two day trip, you would want to do the Ridge Trail.. its a 20 miler. The Sand Cave and Whiterock are at one end of it.

Here is a link that includes info about Backcountry camping. Not much info on the actual Ridge Trail, but there is a map link on the page somewhere that probably shows it.

http://www.nps.gov/cuga/planyourvisit/outdooractivities.htm

Here is a pic of the view from Whiterocks.. stole it off the website!

oh my gosh that looks so awsome....ahh I'm so jealous

Hey now. I'm indian too. First generation, woot woot! Anyway, I have 2 dogs of my own, and my parents have always had at least one since I was little. So all the Hindis don't think they're dirty. I always feed the strays in india. It makes me so sad to see them. If you go to DCOM you can come over to my house and play with mine. They're Indian too. You'll bond.

Eel, it's ok that you like Spanglish. I won't hold it against you, as long as you don't hold it agaisnt me that I own crossroads.... I can't believe I just posted that on a public forum.

Prions, you're so lucky to be living in san fran. That's my favorite city ever, well, after NY.

I don't know exactly what area I'm looking in. I've just been looking at houses online in Harrogate, and calling realators trying to see what's available. I'll be out there in a few months to look at the places and finalize something. I'm looking within a few miles of school. I definitely want to be able to ride my bike every day. I also want to have at least an acre for my dogs, but it seems like most places that are listed online have huge yards. It's so exciting.

yep..first gen indian here too...I wish my parents had the same outlook on dogs

I actually volunteered during my HS years at an animal shelter..and when going to India, it broke my heart to see all the homeless dogs and the way locals treat them

I'm def going to DCOM, and I would love to bond with your dogs! 🙂 thanks for the offer...I always offer to babysit friends' dogs too when they are vacation..my parents don't care if it's a short term thing....what kind of dogs btw?

:laugh: I love you for posting that!!!! So honest of you. I've seen it too . . . TWICE! 😳

Yep, San Francisco is wonderful. Although, I'm looking forward to moving to Tennessee for the following reasons:

1. Not having to worry about stepping on "Willie" (the homeless guy that sleeps outside my front door) on my way out in the morning.

2. Not having to worry about stepping in human crap while walking to the bus stop.

3. Not having to take the bus anymore, period.

4. Being able to sleep a full night without being awakened at 4am by a "pimp and ho fight" outside my window.

5. Not having to worry about my car being broken into at least 4 times a year.

6. Having parking, parking , parking! I almost forgot what a parking lot looks like. 😉

Yeah, it will be nice not to worry about those things anymore. 🙂

They're both black labs. I posted pictures of them in one of the other DCOM threads. They're the best.

I discovered a new adventure today on the way home...

On my normal route, you can see various mountains alon the way, so today I decided to try a new route home and ended up at one of the "mountains" I kept seeing every day...It's called House Mountain and is only about 7 miles from my house or so. Apparently, it's the tallest point in Knox County and is home to House Mountain State Park...and has decent trails. I hope to explore it soon.

Apparently, the other mountain I see on my way is the SW end of what is referred to as Clinch Mountain. I hope to drive home another way to check it out in the near future.

I absolutely cannot wait to get out and do some hiking this summer.

Piratesse...if you're up for a repeat, I'd like to try that one you were talking about as well.

Hey if you do it in July I'm there too!

I bet there are some great places to do train running up there!

Fix my knee and I'll go this time. Come on, you know you wanna. I'll fix your sacrum.... 😉

I promise! Did I tell you that we made several OMM stops on the way up last time? I was fixing ankles and Vicki was fixing knees.. we're even better prepared this time around!

I want to trade in for a new non-dysfunctional sacrum, please!🙄

Jen and I will go on the hike too....I will bring my camera....I even have a backpack for it (yeah, I have A LOT of photo equipment)

Prions, I'd pay to see the pimp/ho fight...that sounds really freaking entertaining when stuck in a room studying all day....that would really put a funny bright spot on the day. Can you record one and post it on YouTube or something?? Even an audio recording will do just fine :meanie:

Ahh, city life! 😍 Harrogate will be a huge change.

I really need some OMM right now. I went to Snowshoe, WV and snowboarded Sunday and Monday. I'm a pretty decent skier, but I found out that I completely SUCK at snowboarding. I must have fallen about a thousand times, and at 6'3", there is no such thing as a graceful fall. I landed on the ice at every angle possible (including a couple of face plants).

It was a lot of fun though!!

I'm glad we don't have pimp vs. ho fights or Willie on the front doorstep! There are some interesting sites here too, lol. Y'all should ask ND about the guy on the bike he saw going down my road the other day. I think I'm going to start studying on the roof so I can take pics of all the funny people that go by. ... Marthea met one of our neighbors the other day who claims that he was abducted by aliens... fun stuff. 🙂

Just so all of you know, DCOM had its annual COCA (accrediting board) conference this week. COCA was there basically to make sure DCOM fulfilled all of its promises and that everything is approved. COCA's preliminary report showed that DCOM passed with flying colors and the COCA team couldn't say enough positive things about the school, the facilities, faculty, and students. DCOM met all of the requirements and is beyond many of them. Dr. Stowers mentioned that COCA is giving DCOM a few awards for some of the teams' findings....unfortunately I can't remember what they are right now (sorry, we have a test on Monday and my mind is on watery diarrhea, fecal leukocytes, STD's, viruses, sacral OMM, and pharmacology.....sounds like fun doesnt it.....oooh just wait until you guys hit 2nd semester...its soooo much fun 🙄....much different than the 1st) The final report will be presented to DCOM in the spring, so all of the details will be made available then.

I was thinking of posting the Sacral Dysfunction lecture just to mess with some minds. 🙂

Or, we could go with some Pharmacologic theory...now there's some positively stimulating material....

So, if the sacral base is anterior, and the sulci are deep...where are the ILA's and what is the dysfunction?

😀 That one's too easy.

I think my sacrum is counter-nutated...good night.

I know, I know!!!

btw... my brain is counter-nutated! I know all of us are tired of studying because we are posting more often than the students-to-be!

I have a right sacral shear... unilateral sacral flexion on the right... i don't think i'm gonna make it.😱

I like smileys!😀

.. and am very wacked out right now.:scared:

no longer available where did it go?

He didn't get abducted, he just walked on to their ship when then landed in his yard, big difference. No anal probing in the second senario.

Also, I'd like to point out that I can't type anymore (it took way longer to write this than it should have) and my brain doesn't work so well any more. It burns. And my dog is gassy. Very gassy...

Murph is pretty awesome that way.. you could prolly teach him to burp the alphabet... he'll do anything for food.

... the word awesome must really be awesome, cuz i've used it about 15 times in the last couple of posts.. sorry about that, guys.. studying makes me stooooopid.

Good night to all... Peace out!

Again...I introduce you to Alter Bridge.....

And then to Sixx AM

Well you can't really introduce us AGAIN. For two reasons really. One, seeing as how the video didn't work last time we were never actually introduced, so this working video is the actual, first introduction. Second, assuming that you accept the first one as an introduction, this is more of a second meeting, not another introduction. You can't really introduce someone twice...

i have to agree with Martha on this one...sorry :meanie:

Hey everyone- I had a question about the student apartments. On the DCOM website it says they had queen size beds in them, but when we toured through them they looked more like full size beds, does anybody who is in them now know whether they are for sure queen or full size?

Thanks!

WTF? Where is everyone? What am I supposed to do when I want to be distracted from studying?

And I have no idea about the beds. Sorry.

I love it! 👍

I hope someone from class of 2012 is good at making videos cuz we got some competition!!

True dat!

PS It's not me...And make sure you check out the other videos! 👍

Look look I finally simpsonized myself, it has taken me forever to figure it out,

this is a proud moment, damn I'm cute

Wow, what an honor to be the topic of your 2000th post

So, I'm doing physics and watching the new Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with Johnny Deep, it is actually pretty good. But then again it is Johnny Deep so.....

you know I"m sort of tempted to get a match.com account and post this as my pic....just to see....

You just happen to be one of the people special enough to qualify for my 2000th post. 😉 That movie was quite good if you ask me. If I ever become super rich (i.e. win the lottery) I think I will have to have someone make me one of those huge rooms in my gigantic mansion where everything is edible! 😀

I think you would quickly become overwhelmed with all the responses you would have begging you to go on a date. Best to just wait until you get to DCOM and find someone there. That's my plan for prions too. 😉

my favorite part of both movies has always been the glass elevator. When I was 7 (I remember we stayed at this really nice hotel that had glass elevators like that, of course they didn't go sideways, but totally glass, I was so excited about it and rode it up and down constantly

Oh I used to love riding elevators like that! Probably still would actually. When I was a kid and Mr. Goodbars still had the yellow wrapper over the silver wrapper I would open it up pretending like there might be a golden ticket inside. I feel like such a dork right now. 😳

i don't know anyone that has tmoblie.. we've all mostly gone with sprint or cingular.

I have been up there many times in the last couple of months and my Verizon has worked just fine. Even in Webb's. I haven't tried it in Middlesboro.

I would recommend calling the Holiday Inn Express. The internet keeps saying they are booked, but I just called a little bit ago and "Bill" said they still have availability.

I'm driving back down to look for housing on the 29th ... anyone have landlord with a house for rent starting in June?😕 I'm having SO much trouble finding places.

Hey Guys and Missdoc...

I just put in an offer on a house in Harrogate. I think the deal will go through in the next couple of weeks, so I'm waiting too.

Currently it has two bedrooms and 1.5 baths, small office, kitchen and living room upstairs. Partially finished downstairs with 3/4 bath. I have been considering making the upstairs a 2 bedroom, 2 bath (loose the little office) and finish the downstairs off for myself. Or if a family (Missdoc) wants to rent upstairs as is, I guess you may want it like it is.

My wife and son will keep the house in Knoxville as our primary residence, (we are not going to move our son out of his school system). After closing on the new place, I will be interested in finding (DCOM) roommates or a (DCOM) family to rent the upstairs.

I'll keep ya posted...

I didn't even know I could book over the internet, I called this morning and they said they didn't have anything I'll try again later

I stayed at the Cumberland Gap Inn.
I would definately recommend it.

Thanks for posting Nick, I was getting worried I was the only one out there!

Well, I finally caught up with this thread...
Welcome and Congrats to all the recent acceptances!! 👍

2012 is gonna be a great class.

I don't know why I post on here anymore. I'm supposed to be getting ready for my upcoming interview. Damnit I hate interviews.
