I've stayed at Downtown Inn twice now. It is actually close than holiday inn and much cheaper. It's not fancy but I thought it was fine for a night. I know there are complaints floating around on the interview page but I didn't have a problem. I'm not picky either so that may have to do with it.

Good luck with your interview!

cheaper is better...I am not picky either, as long as I can sleep, watch t.v. and take a shower I will be satisfied.

I stayed there last year when i interviewed and it was okay but wouldn't recommend it. I'm staying at the holiday inn this time around and the price is actually about the same after the student discount. I would be sure to wear shower shoes and know that if you have verizon that you won't have cell service and they do not offer any long distance calling even for a charge.

Actually you might get Verizon service now. They put up a new tower since last year and it's the ONLY service I get at my house! The only place I don't get service is in the tunnel.

Try calling Holiday Inn a few times. They always say they're booked and somehow my family always gets a room when they visit...

Is there a hotel down in the Gap? Cumberland Gap Inn or something like that?

got the letter today...waitlisted. Wow...blew all that money flying down there and got the flu on the flight back all for nothing. 😡

I'm sorry you didn't get the news you wanted 🙁 Don't give up though - it wasn't a rejection! It's still early in the process and you are likely high on the waitlist. If you really have your heart set on DCOM, send the admissions office a letter of intent ASAP reiterating your interest in attending here. Be sure to ask them what you can do to enhance your file. Find out what the adcom wanting to see from you. :luck:

Where else did you apply? Nevermind... I just checked out your MDAPP. My best advice would be to get some DO experience - shadow one, volunteer, etc. Show that you have a particular interest in osteopathic medicine. Good luck!

Plenty of places...check my MDapps. Already accepted at LECOM - Erie. I have NJMS coming up next Tuesday so I've got my sight set on that. They waitlisted me last year and I got some help from teh dean with my app...I emailed him the other day asking when i was going to interview and not 2 days later i got the interview invite. I'm hoping thats a good sign lol.

Anyway its a real shame I liked DCOM. The letter says something about notifying them within 14 days to keep my spot on it...do i have to put money down for a spot on the waitlist?

Hmmm.... I have no idea. You should call and ask. I would doubt it requires any money. They probably just want to know if you are still interested after the interview.

anyone who interviewed 11/4 recieve a letter yet? my nerves are killing me... all i want is acceptance to dcom.... it sucks i had the same interviewer as last year( the one who i think didn't like me).... eeks nerves suck

I didn't interview on 11/4, but my app was reviewed on that Thursday. I received my letter yesterday, so yours should be there soon. 🙂

I interviewed on the 4 and have nothing. One of the guys with us got a call from Dr. Stowers on Friday so I'm thinking that means I am waitlisted which sux b/c DCOM is my top pick.

I was waitlisted last year and I didn't have to put a deposit down until I was actually offered a seat.

Does anyone know how the waitlist situation works/ how they decide who to choose...etc

Yeah, you're right. For some reason I was thinking that was the place they were talking about.
They're talking about the hotel behind the mexican restaurant on Cumberland.

Well my spot on the acceptance list will open up here soon. I need to decide if I should call or write a letter to the dean. 🙁 I really loved DCOM and all the students I met were really awesome... I am sure I will see you all on SDN. It came down to mostly the town (and some other opportunities offered at VCOM). My wife really wants to continue intensive/critical care nursing and that really only takes place at bigger hospitals and VCOM has that. Choosing a school was really tough, but I am glad that I had a choice and found a place where we would both be happy.

So... chins up all you 11/3 interviewees...

Aww for sure! You'd better drop by and say hi to us 🙂 It's a tough decision, no doubt about it. But I'm sure you've made the right one!

And, I agree.. keep your chins up interviewees!!!

So it seems to me, and this is just based on looking back through previous posts as well as the recent one, that only people who received a call have been accepted while people who receive just a letter are wait listed or rejected (contrary to what Jeanette told us all..)

Any opinions...

As I have posted before, I got in and did not receive a phone call.

You know what they say about assuming... 😉

Good luck, though. Hope everyone hears something soon. 🙂

I'm not sure if this will help alleviate some nerves, but my spot at DCOM will open up soon. I've decided to accept a spot at VCOM as well. The school (DCOM) looks great, and the area is wonderful. My wife will be able to go to school at Va. Tech, which has some great grad. programs though. Also I'm from Roanoke, VA and going home was too appealing for me to pass up.

So I enjoyed meeting everyone at the interview, and I wish you all the best of luck! :luck:

No letter, which means no rejection/waitlist.

Do you know if those spots are given to the new people interviewing or are they strictly only for the waitlisted people? I hope they only got to the waitlisted people but I was just wondering. 🙄

I think when they evaluate interviewees they also look at the waitlisted people so they could go to either.

Are there still spots open for acceptance, or are they just waitlisting at this point?? Getting kind of nervous considering my interview is a couple weeks away.

Oh yeah, there's definitely still seats open. They reserve seats for later interview sessions and they interview into the Spring. I don't think they open the waitlist until March. No worries! :luck:

oh, so they won't evaluate them continuously? If you are waitlisted and are wondering just give them a quick call. I'm sure they won't mind answering your questions.

What I mean by "reserving spots" is they don't give all the seats away to the first groups. They don't want to be in the situation where they can't offer a spot to someone who really impresses them later in the cycle because they already offered all the seats. They might pull a few people off the waitlist before they officially re-evaluate the waitlist, but it all depends on how the application pool looks throughout the cycle. If they have a lot of really good applicants, chances are they won't take people off the waitlist until late in the cycle. It changes every year so it's hard to predict what they will do.

Completely not true. I heard this all the time last year and gave up any hope on DCOM because I didn't want to wait around all year. I got pulled off the waitlist Jan 3rd and I interviewed in November.

And I would highly doubt that they save given up seats just for waitlist. They look at everybody and people that haven't interviewed yet still have a good chance. It's just when you interview later in the spring that your chances go down.

Good luck everybody! :luck:

Right, like I said.... they might take a few people off early like last year (I seem to recall you saying that you were kind of an exception, Malisa), but this year is more competitive so don't be concerned if you don't hear anything until March. I don't think given up seats go to waitlist only - I think they go to anyone. But if you have questions, you should really call the admissions office because it changes every year and we aren't really in a place to say what they are or aren't going to do.

Yup, definately give them a call to find out. I say always call or shoot someone in the addmissions department an e-mail if you have any questions at all, it shows them that you're interested and they will be more likely to remember you I would think and that can only help (unless you call them everyday, that could get annoying, haha)! 👍

While in the area, checking everything out, I overheard a conversation that the UT Hospital in Knoxville and the Hospital in Chattanooga (Erlanger?) had refused to allow students to do their clinicals there. Is there any truth to this or is it a rumor? Appreciate any info from someone who knows!

We should be able to tell you for sure Tuesday since we get the list of rotation sites so that we can put in our top choices. We have not been told of any "refusals" but sites are dynamic. Plus, there are several large hospitals in Knoxville to go to. Just because it is UT does not make it number one for most people.

I can tell you that UT Medical Center has already signed the paperwork to be a hospital and so has Erlanger, but again the hospitals can change no matter what school you go to.

Ask us after Tuesday and there will be much more accurate information to give out.

Ohhh! I can't wait to hear about clinicals!!!

I would wait to hear from one of the second year students about rotations. As a first year, I know nothing but rumors, and those stink. I know this isn't for sure (so I guess this is technically a rumor, but it is fairly solid info...) I'm pretty sure that UTMC - Knoxville made an offer to our school for us to be able to do CORE rotations there, but the offer had to be refused because it was unfair to our students (it cost way more per student than should normally be charged, they would require our students to take the USMLE boards as well as the COMLEX (which you are required to take as an osteopathic student, etc.) UTMC - Knoxville is also looking down the road when the med school in Memphis is going to have to enlarge their classes, so they can't take a whole bunch of students from DCOM now just to say no later. It's kind of a catch 22 for them. HOWEVER... as a third and fourth year student, you can do as many elective and selective roations as you want there, and those are good times to get to know some of the program directors and residents if you wanted to do a residency there. Plus, they might change their minds... you never know.

As to core rotation sites, Knoxville is hospital-saturated. There are 4-5 hospitals for sure that are great hospitals, places I would go to if I needed something done (in fact, I get to test that out here after 1st semester when I have my ACL reconstructed). The doctors are great at each of them, and they will be great teachers.

I'm not sure about Erlanger in Chattanooga. I know they have a relationship with UT - Memphis, but I'm pretty sure they have signed onto our students coming for both CORE and selectives, electives.

Don't worry about the third and fourth year rotations. Our Associate Clinical Dean, Dr. Lenz, is doing a great job and will make sure everybody has a great place to go. Focus on getting in for now... that's the hardest part.

But are the other hospitals in Knoxville "teaching" hospitals? Do they have Residents and have they been used before in clinical classes? I wouldn't want to be "shadowing" Doctors who wouldn't have the time or inclination to give a true, hands on, teaching situation, no matter how great the Doctor. I'm glad to hear that Chattanooga may still be an option. My friends in residency tell me that the core clinicals are critical. I hope the news is good Tuesday!

got the letter today... i was waitlisted  but they mailed it to my old address which is wierd seeing it is not listed anywhere on my application from this year. Im starting to wonder if they have my old application which would really suck..... not to mention interviewing with the same guy from last year which i felt did not like me in the 1st place.... ahhhh i guess its time for my letter of intent :cry::cry:🙁

I'd call and double check. No downside.

Still have heard nothing (interviewed th 4th) so does this mean a rejection since it seems they gave acceptances the first week, then wailist this past week so I figure rejections are handed out next.

I just don't understand my interview went so well and they didn't even bring up my bad MCAT...

I would think they would mail all the letters at once. See if something comes on Monday and if not give them a call. It took almost two weeks for me to get my letter (I got it the Saturday before it would have been two weeks on Monday).

Holy crap I got accepted... I just knew I had gotten rejected because of no call.. Turns out they sent my letter to my address in GA rather than TN

Congratulations on your acceptance, Docman! It is a very big deal, and I hope you're proud. For those of you still on the waiting list, don't fret. Waiting list, a lot of the times, means, "not yet," not "no." If you are serious about coming to DCOM, be sure to write a letter of intent that explains your interest in the school. Add anything that would indicate your desire to come here (for me, this was the only school I applied to, and so I really wanted to study medicine there at DCOM... so I added that in my letter. Obviously, don't write something that isn't true, but you see what I'm saying. Keep at it. Let us know if you need anything

That's great! I told you no call isn't such a bad thing!

Just checking to see if anyone that interviewed on the 10th or 11th has received any news yet. Since, people that interviewed last week seemed to have a quick turn around.
