Yeah, it all depends on what Dr. Stower's has going on. When he's out of town or really busy, or if your interview is right before a holiday, it can take longer than a couple of weeks to hear anything. Just write a follow up letter to your interviewers (by email so it gets there in time) and keep your phone on you! Good luck at your interview! :luck:

P.S. Is anyone interviewing on November 3rd? I'll be at Oasis on the 2nd to answer your questions 😀

Ill be there

Fun stuff I'll be there Nov 2nd with missdochopeful as well. Of course all of my answers will be way better than hers 😀

Lol just kidding!

Just to let anybody know, I just got home from interviewing and they told us it would take 2 weeks to hear anything and that it would be by mail. They also told us that they can't tell us over the phone if we got in or not.

how was it? i'll be interviewing in the morning. i hope you did well, and two weeks isn't too bada at least.

I guess they changed from last year because I know last year most people were called if they were accepted. How did your interview go? I hope you don't go crazy waiting for a decision.

They are not calling to notify for acceptances anymore? Thats strange, did they give a reason? 😕

So now instead of diving for the phone every time it rings you'll be tackling the mailman every day?

I'm going to be there on the 12th for pizza night too! I can't wait. Woohoo! (I'm the short one with dirty blonde hair...probably with the other short one with dark brown hair)

Interview is one week from today. :scared:

Haha - I'm that short one with dark brown hair!

And I really want them to change their minds about that mailing a letter thing.

Vita, did you interview at AZCOM on 9/19?

To answer multiple questions, (lol) after Janette said that we would be notified via snail mail, we asked about a phone call and she said that she wouldn't be able to let us know by phone. I'm not sure of the reason for any change.

I did well, I think. For the most part, I said everything I wanted to say and got a chance to ask most of what I wanted to ask. I was supposed to be the third interviewee in my group, but the second girl was not there so I went second. I interviewed for about an hour even though everyone else seemed to interview for 30 minutes due to the extra time being available.

I was interviewed by Dr. Zajac and Dr. Fitzovich (Ph.D). I enjoyed the interview. The interview should be easy as long as you are honest and know what you want.

Good luck Ali!:luck:

Oh, she probably meant the admissions office couldn't give you an information over the phone, but I bet Dean Stowers will still make acceptance calls.

Can't wait to meet you SoccerChic!

And Malisa, there will be a special table for you at Oasis... in the corner

Well, unless the past two classes have gotten letters as well as phone calls then that is not at all what she was saying. She was adamant that we would find out by mail only. I even gave her my address again so that she could make sure she had my correct address.

Oh well, hopefully Ali or someone else can spread some light on this after their interview.😕

Yeah, in the past they sent letters to everyone and Dean Stowers had additionally called those who were accepted. But it's possible he isn't calling anyone this year. I know last year there were many people waiting on pins and needles for Dr. Stowers to get back in town so he could make calls.

Well I guess if you do get a call it will be a pleasant surprise!

And Amanda I know you will sit at the special table with me so what does it really matter

When I got a notice for an interview, it was over the phone. Now whenever I get an out-of-state phone call on my cell, I get all excited... It happened today, until I answered the phone and it was a phone survey call....boooooo

Dr. Leo (Didn't realize he was asst. dean, so I edited that) is coming from LMU today to talk to students at my university (TTU). I plan on going early so that I may speak with him.

Anyone have any pointers for what to talk about? Should I try to sell myself to him or just ask him questions about the school? I've never done this before. :/

Forks. Just ask questions.

Otherwise, it was nice meeting all of the folks that interviewed yesterday. Hope you enjoyed your day. Let me know if you think of any questions.

forks 4spoons-

ask him what makes DCOM special (of course, do it in the way that is inquisitive... "I'm really interested in DCOM. Why is it the best school for me... ask him what you can do to make yourself competitive/what you can do to get in... He is there to promote DCOM, so know that going in. Ask about the curriculum... bottom line... what do YOU want to know about DCOm? That's what you should ask... just talk with him. He is a great guy, so make it a conversation, not a 20 questions moment.

Hope that helps...

Thanks, Alabamacub!

Today went quite well. He came in early to talk to some of the freshmen pre-med students and through my old Orgo prof/premed advisor, I got the skinny on him being there. 🙂

I was really taken aback by the technology that LMU has. It blew my mind. I'm a total techie, so LMU is definitely right up my alley. I'm filling out my secondary tonight (per his request, even though I haven't been verified) and sending it out tomorrow.

And, I agree, he's a very cool guy! I liked talking with him. I think all the little froshies were a bit intimidated by him, but believe me, I had plenty of questions. A little one on one time at the end, but the majority of our conversation was during his panel.

Yeah LMU! I'm liking it! Now I've just gotta get this stinkin' MCAT score back. Grrr..

Figured you would like him. 😉

Glad you liked Dr. Leo...he is a cool guy, and an amazing professor. Happy to hear you liked what DCOM has to offer too, its an awesome place!!!

Ah, okay.. so, I pretty much had a meltdown last night after I got my MCAT score back. 🙁

I made a 23P... 6PS, 8 BS, 9VR.

I have a 3.51 science, and 3.53 overall (per AACOMAS).. and a few EC's, including working for a cardiology clinic for three years.

I know this isn't a what are my chances thread, but since I'm interested in DCOM, I thought I'd post here first.

Thanks, again, everyone. 🙂

I got a 22N on the MCAT (8 PS, 8 BS, 6 VR ...damn verbal) because I screwed it up...I was getting 29's on the practice exams...but anyway, so far, I got interviews at 3 schools, including DCOM, and an acceptance at WVSOM. But I also have experience due to my role as a medic in the military. You shouldn't loose hope. I would definitely try.

There have been people who have been accepted with higher, the same, and lower scores than that. All you can do is see what happens. Your GPA is good and it sounds like you've had some good experience. Remember, it's about the total package (and a little luck) when it comes to applying to MS.

Just wondering...what's the avg. score on the MCAT now?

Just FYI, the last 2 classes at DCOM have had around a 24-25 average, so you're in the ballpark.

Don't worry about it too much (I know...easier said than done). LMU dropped off some packets of information at my school. In the packet, it says that the average mcat for the class of 2012 was 24.4; mean cum GPA was 3.38; mean non-science GPA was 3.5; mean science GPA was 3.27. I think that you stand a good chance. And koojo is right, it's the total package. Your mcat is not too far off from their average.

Good luck

F4S-

take heart... apply! There is no "score" you have to get. You are more than your MCAT scores, your grades, and your extracurriculars... be confident that what you want to do is what you want to do it and pursue it. There are very few people who get what they want on the MCAT.

she said at my interview that Dr. Stowers can make phone calls if he wants and that he likes to do that. she said don't freak out if you don't get a call though. the admissions committee is meeting today, so i guess we'll see soon!

Awesome! Thanks ali. I guess she meant that we shouldn't call them, lol. How did you do?😎

Who better to ask than you lovelies that are at/potentially at LMU!

The secondary instructions say to write "short" essays.

How short was "short" for you?

Essay 1 for me is 2/3 of a page while essay 2 is almost a full page. Is this too much? too little?

I want to make sure I get it right! 🙂

Thanks in advance!

Each of my essays was just over a page. I think they just want to be able to read enough to get a picture of who you are.

Mine were about a page as well.

Good Luck!!!!!

My 1st one was almost a page and the second one was a 1/2 a page. As long as they are to the point, length doesn't matter.

I was just wondering if anyone from LMU-DCOM's interviews this past week have heard anything. 😕 Just SUPER anxious to hear from them. Thanks!

I interviewed on the first day and I haven't heard anything. I figure it will probably be next week before we hear anything.

Same here. I interviewed on the first day and haven't heard anything.

I sent in my secondary this morning... I would have sent it in on Wednesday, but I had so many worries about everything after I got my MCAT scores that I just sent it in today.

Sigh.. hope I didn't mess up.

So my interview is on Tuesday...anything out of the ordinary that I should expect there? Anything I should keep in mind about DCOM that maybe important to my knowledge before I go into the interview?

Read through the interview feedback and read through their website. You'll also learn some new things about the school technologically during the tour. However, the most important thing is to read the questions on the interview feedback page and at least have an idea of how you might answer. Chances are that you'll get a lot of questions that were on the interview feedback. I know I did. Good luck!:luck:

I would keep these two things in mind while you are here. First this school was built in a rural area to serve the rural population. They do not expect every student to practice rural family medicine but it is the focus. Also, the school is very proud of the locals and the acceptance we've been given and the locals are very proud of the school and the opportunity it brings to the local area. It has been my experience this school is not looking for ego's and inflated self-opinions. The majority of both classes are well adjusted friendly people who will help other classmates in need. We are not a school of gunners using each other for a better residency lol. Finally (ok that's 3 things...sorry) be your self this interview is low stress and they are not trying to trip you up, just find out who you are. Come to the Oasis pizza thing and get to know a few students, it will relax you and give you a better sense of what your walking into tomorrow.

Good luck!!!!

I think your good....If this was January or February I would feel differently. The few days at this point in the interview season isn't gonna kill your chances...probably not even hurt them lol.

Good Luck!!!

My interview is tomorrow. Right now I am in ohare waiting for my connecting flight to knoxville. I'm gunna try to make oasis tonight. Anyone else going? Who's staying at the holiday inn in Kentucky? I'm getting a car if anyone needs a ride in the morning.

I am interviewing tomorrow. I'm driving up tonight with Maldabrocc (my old roomie) tonight to go to the oasis night. I cant wait to meet everyone!

I'd much rather go get pizza tonight than study for my lab practical. Good luck to everyone interviewing this week.
