First off, sincere congradulations to all who have either been accepted, interviewed/ing. Second, although I already have my own answer I guess I am looking for a little assurance or positive feedback that I didnt just nail the lid of the coffin on for my chances at LMU this season...My primary was submitted to LMU via aacomas 1/6/09. All of my other primaries were submitted and complete by 10/10/08 however, I guess out of pure unknowning how great this school was I did not submit my primary until just recently. I have not had interviews yet because I am taking my MCAT for the second time 1/31. My stats are average in regards to GPA however, my experience in my opinion is extensive; I worked in a vet clinic assisting in surgery, giving i.v meds, rads etc. I have been an EMT for 2 years now working in both ems and in the ER. Any opinions appreciated greatly...so stressed only 14~ days until Mcat (I dont think its possible to study anymore hours in the day when youre also taking 19 cr. hrs).

bsteven2- for what it's worth my primary wasn't in until February 2 of last year. I got a call for an interview March 16, interviewed April 4, was accepted June 16. What's the worst they say... No? Vs. not knowing, I'd definitely apply. I bet my stats were a little below yours. True, stats will get better this year, but you've got to apply. If not you lost out on 50 bucks. If you think your stuff is good with your extracurricular, the only way they will really hear about that is if you apply and get an interview, then you can brag on yourself some and show how that will help you. If you don't try you'll never know. I hope that encourages you. If you don't apply, I'd say that's the final nail in the coffin. Apply and come to DCOm. It's great!

Hello all! Interviewed January 12th and got the call of acceptance this afternoon!!! yay!!!

Congrats! I interviewed on January 12 as well but I haven't heard anything yet. :scared: I'm not sure if that's good news or bad news. I guess we'll wait and see....

Yes, there shall be no studying prior to medical school. It's just stupid and a waste of time. You don't know what to study and will spend your summer days behind a book rather than on a golf course, picnic, family vacation, etc. Use the rest of your time wisely and RELAX!!!! Besides, studying anatomy in a book is nothing compared to seeing it on a cadaver.

And yes, you will get a tablet laptop, so no need to get one. We 2nd years have a Gateway and the 1st years have a Lenovo. Yes, ours is heavier, but the screen is bigger and I don't hold my computer often, so weight doesn't really matter to me. I would imagine the next class will have the Lenovo, I definitely know it will not be the Gateway.

Congrats to all the new acceptees!!!

Thanks Alabamacub5, I have applied and my primary has been received (1/12/09). I have called 3 times trying to get a hold of Robin in admissions and it seems we keep missing each other's call, so as I can get my secondary in the mail asap. I would be absolutely speechless if I were to get accepted let alone an interview (obviously). Crossing my fingers

Congratulation to y'all

I have a serious concern
my children are biracial. Does any of you know how people behave with biracials? here in georgia is like you have to chose who you hang out with and I am seek with this crap.

it looks like someone may have answered this, but i'd also recommend commercial bank. since they have the LMU account, your financial aid clears the same day (which is helpful when you start running low!). also, the CLOSEST bank of america is in lake city, tn. i know this b/c that's where i drive if i HAVE to use a BoA....yesterday, in fact. it's 37 miles from harrogate, so not too bad... much better than drivig all the way to knoxville.

the other option would be to keep your BoA account(s), and just have someone (that you trust) deposit your check. there are several people in our class that live in knoxville, as well as several people in the class ahead of us... who will be gone when you get here, but you get the idea.

hope that helps! can't wait to meet you all!😀

Thanks for the info (thanks everyone else who I neglected to thank before as well)! I think I'll probably keep the BoA acct and open a Commerce one as well. It sounds like the best option.

To try to milk some more helpful info out of everyone on here, does anyone have cell phone service with a particular company that is good there. I currently have Alltel and they don't get coverage in Harrogate so we'd be roaming the whole time (Verizon is same deal I would assume since they are the same company now). Anyone with experience of cell phone service in the area, please let me know what I should switch to for good coverage.😎

Thanks!

We have AT&T and it's just "ok" but seems to be improving. Wishful thinking? I really don't think anyone has great cell service in this area. But it can only get better as more people move in. We live on text messages, as they seem to get through with little trouble but holding a connection long enough to have a conversation can be a bit trying,

We switched from Nextel to AT&T when we moved here from Michigan because we heard it was the best coverage, but turned out we didn't get service at our house so we had to switch yet again to Verizon. I get good service everywhere, as far as I've noticed. They apparently put a Verizon tower up in Middlesboro last year.

I have Verizon and it does pretty well. You only get around 1 bar at the student apartments, but I get great reception at the school and in Middlesboro.

I don't have children, nor do I spend a ton of time in the cities around school, but I wouldn't expect that you would have that problem. Yes, the area is fairly rural, but I think people have kind of moved on from that.

If you really wanted to be sure, you could live around the Knoxville area (like on the Northeast side (Powell/Halls/Clinton). At least those schools are part of a larger system with more diversity. That means that you'd be driving a good 45 minutes every day, which could be more than you want

If I were you I wouldn't worry about it.

I loved the school , and positive attitudes of all the students. I interviewed January 5, and got my acceptance call the following Friday, definitely walking on clouds that day. I already sent my deposit in...now just finding a place to live with my puppy and cat. I am looking forward to everything.

Yay, congrats! DCOM is awesome, your gonna love coming here 😍
Good luck with house/apt searching! There will prob be alot of places opening up this summer when the 2nd years leave for rotations so dont stress too much about finding a place.

i have an interview on tuesday. i was just wondering when students meet at oasis monday night?

Quite honestly I would not switch until you get here and know where you are going to live. I had heard verizon was the best with so I went ahead and ordered verizon phones. They had no service at my house which is ten minutes away from the school. I had to return them and order ATT. It was kind of a hassle. Your best bet would be to find where you are live first and maybe have a couple of SDN "friends" over to see which company works at your house. Haha I don't know how else you could test it without buying the phones first.

I have ATT and it works great everywhere I have been except down in the Gap and in VA. I don't really go to either of those places very often so it fits my needs perfectly.

I think its around 6:30pm. Anyone else got a more definate answer?

Oh there ya go!

I was wondering if any of you guys have taken the online Biochemistry offered by UNECOM prior to enrollment at the school. Also I was wondering if anyone can suggest some reading for Cell Bio to help prepare me for medical school.(I have not taken either)

I think I should be ok for Physio, and gross anatomy(thank God for prosections!)....previous lifeI am a ER PA and took those courses and quite a few others during the program.

Just to clarify...this is LMU-DCOM, not UNECOM, but no I never took that class from UNECOM. I did find Biochemistry very helpful for first year however. I would have to recommend not studying anything prior to starting. First, you won't know what points the school will want to stress so you may end up studying the wrong stuff. Secondly, the vast majority of your medical school life will be devoted to studying so relax before you get here. I can almost guarantee it will not help you much, if at all, and you'll be more inclined to burn out quickly. Hang out by the beach, spend time with your SO, work and save some money, but don't study.

DO NOT STUDY before you get here. its a complete waste of time. you will have plenty of time to study the material they give you. enjoy your free time by not studying, because when you get here, all you will do is study.

I know its LMU-DCOM I was just mentioning UNECOM due to it being online and I saw some of the other members on the Forum have used this class to prepared for B-Chem and was wondering if anyone from LMU had done so as well. I really do appreciate all of your advice and I will take it from you guys!

Thanks so much!

PS- I had to defer a year due to personal issues and I was just trying to get focused a little prior to enrollment. I am so ready to be a great osteopathic doctor and LMU seems the perfect place to do so!

I figured you knew, just checking! If you have a year then you can probably browse through some things, but the yield probably wouldn't be worth a lot. It's so different than what people think that studying beforehand doesn't accomplish much. We can't wait to have you!! Welcome aboard!

Even with all this advice going out about not studying before med school, I wonder how many people actually heed it. I am going to, but just because I want a break for a little while. I am just curious, how many actually do some dedicated studying?

I for sure will not be studying.

Some will and that's ok, but I bet all who do will regret it once they're two months in.

I definitely didn't.... basically all the preparation that would have been helpful to you should have been done in undergrad. Anything short of taking a complete course really isn't going to help you at this point. I opened one of my books a couple of weeks before school started and realized right away that I didn't know what was going to be important and what wasn't. The few things that I did read about hadn't even stuck with me by the time we got to that unit in school, so seriously... take a break 👍 It's the last good one you'll get for a while!

Yeah I am planning on taking a break from learning anything academic. I just didn't know if that was what people really did.

I know they said it would take around two weeks to hear if we were accepted, but I was wondering if anyone who interview 1/20 has gotten "the call" yet.... good luck to all that have upcoming interviews.

I plan on getting the Netter's Anatomy application for the iTouch/Phone and playing with that a couple of weeks before classes start (that is...if accepted... 😕 *fingers crossed* ). No serious studying, just a little preparation. I plan on just reading/skimming books like 'The DOs: Osteopathic Medicine in America' by Norman Gevitz, and 'Foundations for Osteopathic Medicine' by Robert Ward. The last mentioned is quite big, so I just read the chapters that interest me the most, like behavioral sciences.
Other than that I plan on reading as many novels as possible, like the ones I always wanted to read but never had the time to. Now I do 🙂.

The Gevitz one is pretty good. I found it very useful for a light overview of the history of osteopathic medicine in America. I don't know about the other one. As far as the Anatomy application, I was thinking of doing the same thing (although for a different phone). I just like to play with those kinds of things. When school rolled around I probably wouldn't even use it though. Good luck on the admissions process.

As far as waiting two weeks, it seems a lot of people (not saying everyone) hear back within 7-10 days. Good Luck to everyone still waiting.

It's not like I am counting the days... it's been nine... or staring at my phone hoping it will ring and I will get good news..haha.

I interviewed with you on the 20th, my bf was there... and so far i haven't heard anything from LMU one way or the other...I'll let you know if I do though, best of luck 😀

I interviewed this past Tuesday (Jan 27) and Drs. Leo, Seaman, and Cross all mentioned that it would be at least 2 weeks before the committee would even meet, well, 2 weeks from your interview date. Seems like a few members were out of town and the acceptances would be pushed back a little. So I'll continue to play the waiting game with you all...:xf: Best of luck to all though.

Thanks guys.... I guess we will just have to wait longer than the others had to... maybe we can learn some patience, but I wouldn't be opposed to getting a call on a friday afternoon.... good luck everyone. Detroitdo, I sat next to you in the conference room before we interviewed.

Sometimes it takes longer if the Dean is out of town. I haven't seen him this week so it's possible.

😎yeaaaa.... the wait is over. I got a call about 3:30 while I was at tennis practice and ran laps around the court.... I will be cancelling all other interviews and I am coming the LMU-DCOM!!!!!!!!! good luck to people waiting to hear😀😀😀😀😀😀😀

great job detroitdo and dominate...i got a call too..Yay!

I also interviewed with you guys that day...I was the short asian looking guy...lol

Anyone interviewing on Tuesday? My wife and I are driving down from PA and are most likely going to the pizza night at Oasis. I hope this storm holds off! Looking forward to meeting everyone and visiting the school. Very excited!

We were all there on the 20th, so it took like a week and a half, pretty reasonable.
