Hex311- apply early and I think you have a great shot at an acceptance! I had lots of Bs too. I think they consider your curriculum.

SoccerchicOC- I hope you get that call soon! I'm rooting for you still!

I received my financial aid packet in the mail. Those of you that anxiously await any mail from DCOM like myself should know that there is no new information in the packet. It has either been presented to us at interview day or can be found online.
 
Hi guys. I might be heading to LMU-DCOM for an interview soon.......the school is about an hour drive from the closest airport.....so technically I would have to rent a car from the airport? or is there a school shuttle? :xf:
 
I got the call this morning about 11 I'll be going to DCOM this fall!

Hey everyone,

Ive just put in my AACOMAS application for LMU-DCOM and am working on my secondary. I have just recently got a D.O. to right a letter of Evaluation for me and that is why I am applying so late. I have an interview at UT next week but I really would like to have an opportunity to go to LMU. Do I have a chance this late in the game or am I just waisting my time/money.

you're definitely not wasting your time. I applied this time last year, and got called for an interview in March, interviewed in April, and accepted in June. Definitely do it... it's a great school!
 
I can officially say that I will be attending in the fall...phew...what a draining process. Deposit has been received and look forward to meeting everyone in the oh so near future. I've got to hurry up and start slacking off before we get started😀 Best of luck to everyone still interviewing/waiting. 👍

I just wanted to express to all those starting the rental housing search that if you find a house you like, ask the landlord for a list of references of current/past renters that you can contact. While the majority of landlords in the area are cooperative, friendly people who have been renting properties for years and are excited that you are pursuing your medical education here, some have jumped on the rental house bandwagon to make a quick buck with the recent influx of students and are less than interested in the reason you came here (and the importance of a peaceful living & studying environment.) Also, be sure to look over your contract (if your landlord is offering one) thoroughly before signing. The last thing you want to be dealing with mid-semester is finding a new place to live because your landlord won't fix the air conditioning, water, driveway, is planning to sell the house (or starts construction on the property 😱), etc. Just a word to the wise, since it has happened enough to students that I found it worth mentioning!

You may want to begin your search with houses for rent by current students. There are some OMS-II students who purchased houses here and will be renting them out when they leave for rotations.

I'm looking forward to meeting you all in the Fall!😀

I think it's changed somewhat from last year, but you arrive at the school in the morning, meet some faculty and staff and learn about the school, go for your interview (2 faculty members will question you), then you get tours and lunch. Thanks for your comments. But my interview is on Tuesday, Feb 17. Was supposed to be the 10th but had another interview somewhere, which is a good thing because I'm sick and lost my voice. But hopefully, I will get it by next week.
From reading the threads I'm a little confuse whether there are other students being interviewed at the same time with me or is it just me alone. 30 minutes is kind of short when there's two faculty interviewing you and other students as well. Also what is my chance of getting in this late in the application process? I'm also from California and my plane do not arrived until 4:30 the night before in knoxville. Do you think I would have sufficient time to go to the Pizza party the night before or should I skip it altogether. I really want to go to LMU and want to get the most out of my visit. What are my probabilities of getting in if I get an interview? Also how long did it took you to find out if you're in after the interview? Thanks

Damn, just firing off those questions. kidding...the interview is very relaxed.
There are more people at the interview day with you, but you interview with the two interviewers by yourself.
Definitely go to the pizza place if you have the chance, makes the next day much more relaxing.
If you have average statistics it is not too late, a few posts earlier someone mentioned interviewing at this time and still getting in in June.
It has been taking an average of around 10 days to get a response.

Thanks for all your words of wisdom. It really helps me prep. Do you get a chance to look around the school? I know this is a weird question but is the drive from Knoxville scary at night or just OK.......anyways, when you say the interview is relaxed, what do you mean exactly, they do not ask hard questions or they just ask them in a relaxed manner..........sorry for all the questions

I just wanna ask if anyone know the booklist for the first semester of M1. Since I already graduated in Dec and have been taking vacation for more than 2 months. Have enough fun and now it's time to hit the books just for fun also. I would appreciate it.

You get a tour of the med. school itself by 1st year students. You get a tour of the campus from 2nd year students. I didn't drive from Knoxville so I can't help there. When I say relaxed I meant that the worst part of it was trying to figure out how long I should look at each interviewer in order to not upset the other one. The questions are what you would expect. Why medicine. Why osteopathic path. Why DCOM. Nothing out of the ordinary. They do look at your application so be ready to answer questions about that. It worked out well. Just be able to answer the forementioned questions in a clear and concise manner, and possibly elaborate with some personal experience or knowledge and you will be fine. Good Luck.

Hey Steven,

They probably won't post your booklist for a while, but they will likely be close to the same books, if not exactly the same, that were on our list... which I now see has been replaced with our Spring booklist, so the link won't be any help to you! Let's see... you'd be safe getting Gray's Anatomy for Students , Bates' Guide to Physical Examination and History Taking (9th ed.), and Gray's Dissection Guide for Human Anatomy (2nd ed.). Other than that, I used Marks' Basic Medical Biochemistry: A Clinical Approach (3rd ed.), BRS Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (4th ed.) and also Netter's Atlas of Human Anatomy (4th ed.) *but* I would wait on Netter's because you get a free one for joining SOMA (which basically everyone joins) so don't waste money on a combo pack like I did and end up with 2 copies!

That should get you started until they release a book list for your class. And keep in mind that if there is a different text that covers the same material, you can get that instead. The only thing that I found I needed the exact edition for to follow along was the Dissector. To be honest, I didn't find there was much time for reading, but it all depends on your learning style. For me, if it comes down to crunch time, I get more out of re-watching lectures than reading a chapter, but it's different for everyone. Hope this helps 👍

Definately go to the Oasis. We were asked numerous times if we went. I was also asked specifically during my interview.
 
Hello all LMU-DCOM. I interviewed on Feb 10th. I had a great experience. The faculty I met seemed to be very friendly and helpful. Is this true for the most part?? The facilities were amazing. Do you find it hard to find time to study the cadavers since there are only 8?

As for anatomy lab, there are only 8 cadavers but this isn't a problem for learning. You're in a lab group of 5, and within that group you have 2 hours per week with your body. In lab, it can get a little crowded when you're on head and neck, but this is because the structures are so much smaller- from the neck down there's no problem with being able to see everything necessary. However, I learned the most on my own outside of lab time, and for that purpose the lab is open from when Dr. Cross arrives in the morning until about midnight each night (longer hours approaching practicals) Granted, the lab can get busier as you approach an exam, so plan accordingly. Long story short, 8 bodies means there are fewer structures to be tagged during practicals (although there are a couple "reserve bodies" we don't see until then). To make up the difference they integrate imaging and models

Do you think it would help me tremendously if I teach anatomy several weeks before medschool starts? I've been offered to teach anatomy for four weeks from my university and therefore I'm contemplating whether it would be better for me to relax before medschool start, go on a mission trip in a foreign country, or teach anatomy and physiology I instead?

Can't hurt, but the level of depth will probably not be to the level of medical school. Do whatever is more fun and enjoy your time off.
 
The package I received stated all records must be sent by May 30th. I have never had Hep B and it won't be possible for me to get all three shots and a titer by then. Did anybody have this problem last year and what did you do? I plan on calling on Monday.
 
Does anyone have advice on how to find a house or apartment rental?? I've been trying the "google" method and I can't find anything 😕 I live in Texas and I plan to fly back to tennesse to show my family the school and the surround area. It would also be nice to use that time to look around at places for rent. ANY help would be GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂

You could start by looking at the class of 2013's facebook group, some people have listed apartment rentals there, and there is a DCOM housing facebook profile on there that lists apartment/house rentals. There are also some listings on the SGA website.. some of these may overlap, I'm not sure.

Hey guys...I have been reading on here now and then for a year or so, but it has picked up recently as I am fully immersed in this process.

Just wanted to say i am interviewing at LMU on March 2. Anyone else scheduled for this day??

I'm testing USMLE on June 12th & COMLEX on June 16th. I've started studying a little already (2-3hr /wk), but I'll really start studying about 60 days out.

Great, it sounds good to me. Good luck to you. If you don't mind, can I ask what materials are you using for both tests and particularly for COMLEX? Since I know they are somehow different. BTW, does school provide the prep course for you guys ( etc.kaplan..)? Thanks for the replying my concern.

The school is providing us with KAPLAN Lecture series, QBank, and a week in-house Kaplan review, but I'm personally using First Aid for most of my studies since it consistently outranks Kaplan.

not yet but they said to give the adcom 2-4 weeks before you start to go bananas.

following my own advice is getting harder every day though 😳 esp since they apparently meet every week.

anyone know of the acceptance rate post-interview btw? and how many ppl make it off the waitlist, should we end up on it?

Hey there,
chin up and relax, hope everything will be fine for you guys. I don't know what the rate, but for my interview last Dec, it took me 2 days to get accepted after the interview. It may take a lit longer at this time, I guess but hang in there and just keep in tough with Amy, she's really nice and so helpful.

The waiting is by far the slowest part of the process. I interviewed on Jan 20 and was accepted Jan 30. For most of the groups before me it took a little less time. The phone call came on a friday afternoon when I was least expecting it. I can't offer any words of wisdom... you have already done all you can at the interview and just try to keep yourself busy. Try not to check sdn 8 times a day like I did to see if people were getting accepted... it only made it worse

i really do need to break my sdn addiction at some point... it's helping me cope, though 🙂 my friends are getting kind of sick and tired of listening to me vent so this is like my own personal support group.

honestly, i don't know how people go through this process a second or third time. repeat applicants are my heroes!
 
Just think of all the people that have to wait MONTHS to find out any news! DCOM is merciful that way 🙂
 
I am attending LMU DCOM this summer and of course have to take a drug test. I am currently prescribed to a medication that will show up on a ten panel. I spoke with the appropriate person and kind of got a strange answer. He was basically like don't worry about it, as long as you're straight before clinicals it doesn't matter. I can't imagine they can hold it against me if I have a prescription, but just wondering.

So basically it's ok or not when you brought this issue up to school? Mine was done and mailed to school last week.🙂

I've heard people talk of mailing in a list of the shots they've had, of getting a drug screen and mailing it in, etc....where is all of this coming from. 😕 Have they asked for it? If so, where? Thanks!

You get it in the mail. Mine has been taking forever all week long at my physicians office. I just want to get all my stuff sent out and wrapped up asap.
 
after you complete the fafsa and get your SAR...do they send it to the school and do you wait for LMU to send you for loan amounts...this is what i thought the process entailed. Anyway, thanks to anyone who responds.. it would save a call to LMU for them to have to explain it to me.
