Hi I’m a current second year at LMU-DCOM in Harrogate. I had acceptances to DCOM and ATSU-KCOM. Obviously I chose DCOM and I haven’t regretted once. Not to say one school is better than the other, but like you I went through all the Pros and Cons and DCOM just fit me better.
Keep in mind that most people on an anonymous forums come to talk about what they dislike. Similar to how most hospitals have 2 star ratings. Only disgruntled people leave reviews, and for the most part, only disgruntled students get on these forums to complain about their lack of success in medical school that is solely the fault of their school and has nothing to do with their own abilities.
At the end of the day DCOM is another medical school like all the rest that is going to get you to your end goal of being a doctor. It’s going to be challenging, there may be some professors you don’t like as much, and there may be policies you disagree with. But you will become a doctor.
However if you want to hear some positives I think the professors at this school genuinely care about you. They point out board relevant topics in every lecture and constantly give board style questions to give you examples of what we’re preparing for. I also think our clinical department does a great job. The skills you learn are taught to the book and they make sure you’re sharp at them before rotations. We have a cool simulation lab where we’re tested on complex situations. We also have standardized patient encounters where we learn to take a history, perform physical exam skills and OMT on live simulated patients, chart SOAP notes and present cases multiple times throughout your time at the school. I personally have found them super useful and feel confident as I’m heading into rotations.
