i was wondering how many of you during your clinical years have ever tried logging (or blogging) your experiences at the end of each day. i just started doing this now, at the end my clinical year. i really, REALLY wish i had started it sooner.

if many of you have blogs, i'd love to see them. mine is at:

http://lostandallalone.blogspot.com

and i'd love to have more visitors. but really i wanted to say how much it helps remind me what i accomplished each day and helps me reflect on things that happened.

Good for you. I think it's a good idea. I used to keep a journal up until the first few months of medical school. After that I just couldn't keep up with it because I was too busy and it would go weeks between entries. If you can keep doing it, it'll be an interesting read in a few years.

If you can keep your blog going, that's great! 👍 I know I would never have been able to keep it up past a week or two.

Scooby Moo,

I'm a senior pre-med and I just read your blog and I'm a fan. I can completely relate to being a food snob. Anyway, it's really inspiring for lowly pre-meds like myself to read about your experiences.

if you have the time that is...and I'm not sure anyone wants to hear you rant away..esp if you bitch about an attending and he/she gets to read it..not nice

i didn't say anything about my attending that wasn't totally true - are you talking about the sinusitis incident?

i also said a lot of good things about my attending (if you didn't read that far, i understand, that's totally ok, i just wanted to mention it).

i'm not going to elevate my superiors to mythological proportions, and i don't expect students and residents to do so for me when i'm an attending.

I like your blog. Your parents are cute.

Bravo. 👍 There is enough unwarranted butt-kissing going on in the world already...it's a nice change-of-pace when someone actually chooses the route of sincerity.

I meant it as a general statement...sometimes...you might end up posting something which someone may not like..so, be careful 😀

Thanks for the info. That's a pretty cool thing. I love to write. It's how I vent. I do not yet have a blog, but have been thinking about it. I started a journal when med school started 2 years ago. I meant for it to be about my med school experience. But it became the place where I'd write about all the problems between the bf and I. Needless to say, one day in the past 6 months or so, he read some stuff that I had written not long after our relationship was in huge trouble last fall. He misinterpreted everything I had written....and now.....I don't feel safe writing anywhere!!

Is there a such thing as an ultra-private blog or journal?? 🙄

actually i think you CAN get a private account (ie, password protected, not publicly posted) on some of the on-line diary websites. i'm not sure blogger is one of them, but i think maybe on diaryland.com?

i hear you about the someone-finding-my-journal stuff. when i was growing up, nothing i wrote was ever safe from my sister's prying eyes, no matter where it was hidden. i decided to switch to a public journal because i kind of like having people i know able to read what's going on in my life. it has its limitations, though; i don't think i would ever be able to write about things like (as you were saying) relationship problems.

this blog -- which is amazing in my opinion and was my inspiration for starting one -- (http://www.theunderweardrawer.homestead.com) is written by a pediatrics resident, but she has archives on her site that date back to when she was in med school. it's public, but she really does reveal a lot sometimes. i admire her for it. she's also the (brilliant) cartoonist who does the scutmonkey comics, if anyone is familiar with them.

thanks for the info! I'll check out the peds resident's site. I'm pretty sentimental, and I love looking back to see what I was thinking about at any given time.

I've seen that site before. The best part about it is the comic strip.
