I posted around this time last year before I started my pre-reqs adventures and have gotten very good tips! So I am reaching out to you guys seeking for some advice again.

Here is a little bit of background info.

Education: I graduated with an engineering degree from a military school (not sure if med schools will give a crap) with a 3.37 GPA. I started taking pre-reqs this past year, got a 4.0 in both fall and spring semester, but got a B- this summer in Orgo 1 Lecture. I will be only taking Orgo 2 and Psychology this Fall, Biochem and Sociology in the Spring, then taking my MCAT and sending my applications hella early. So my cGPA is like a 3.42 (crappy I know)

Medical Experiences: I am still volunteering at the ED with 130+ hours logged, 30+ shadowing hours logged but have more lined up before the summer ends, and I just got a job as a scribe working 24hrs a week.

Non-Medical: I volunteer here and there at random places, I am also an assistant baseball coach for a kids team. 60+ hours.

Leadership: I went to a military college so I got a chance to be in some leadership positions. I was the secretary for a club last year at my current school.

So with about 9 months left before I apply, what are some things I should be doing or get ready to do?

Thank you for your time in advance

You look good. Your GPA will give you trouble but there isn't anything you can do about that now except do as best as you can on the MCAT. I guess ,start thinking about your personal statement and start thinking about which of your volunteer/leadership experiences were the most meaningful, as AMCAS will ask you about this.

Stick with it. Continue working hard on your pre-reqs.

I come from the camp that doesn't really weight shadowing a lot. The ED and scribe work is great. If your total clinical hours between the 3 is over 500 hours, you're golden there.

Find a volunteer project/group you can stick with for the next 9 months. The coaching is great. Remember all your ECs tell the more of your story and inform AdComs of your interests and passions outside of medicine.

The military school thing is ok, but less so if it wasn't one of the 4 academies or if you actually served active duty. I assume you're a reservist?

Now is a good time to start thinking about letter writers and getting in contact with any old professors that you may want to write for you.

Good luck!

Think: service to others less fortunate than yourself. If you can raise the GPA, that will only help.

Sounds good!

I went to one of the senior military colleges and I did not commission

well other than the classes on the MCAT, should I take random easy classes to get As? or will AdCom see that

Take upper level Bio classes.

I can only take 200 level classes this coming year along with finishing up my pre-reqs. Would it make sense to take 300 level classes in my "Gap year" waiting for IIs and such?

You don't have to take them at your University. Take them at another school.
well I am currently living at home and going to a 4 year uni near my house

My only piece of advice is that you don't try to play up the military thing. You went to a school and didn't commission. For the love of God, don't imply you're a vet or on the same level.
