Hi, I'm new to this forum. I would like to know what my chances are also, here's my situation. I have my BS in electrical engineering but my grades aren't great. I had some semesters where I got straight A's and other semesters where I failed a class or two. I got 3 F's and 2 D's over the course of my college. I have gotten straight A's since I have gone back to school (28 credits) and my prerequesite gpa is a 3.84. My problem is that my overall gpa is only a 2.86 because of those few lousy F's and D's. It's so upsetting to me now (they were all over 4 years ago!) What do you guys think? Do I have a shot in hell? I also got an 89 composite on the pcat and have a few months of pharmacy experience. Please give it to me straight-

I think you'll be fine. Most schools say that they look at trends. With your last credits being all A's, that's got to be impressive to them. You also did well on the PCAT. Having some pharmacy experience with your improvement, is also a plus. Good luck! 🙂

Thanks. I really feel like my low LOW gpa will hold me back. You made me feel a little bit better. Is there anyone out there who thinks i have no chance at all?

Mmm, they really look very carefully at prerequisite GPA's more than they do the GPA in it's entirety. They understand you may have had some problems in school...it's unavoidable for most people. But with your prereq GPA and PCATS, you have a good chance for most schools.

thank you thank you thank you to you both. i will sleep better tonight 🙂

i have a 3.2 gpa and 98 pcat score. i was a chemical engineering major in college and know how challenging engineering was. i believe it is much harder than pharmacy. i can get in so can you. give it a shot!!!

good luck

I'm in a very similiar situation myself. I graduated Berkeley with a 2.5 gpa 3 years ago (was chem. e. for the first two years and then switched to genetics Never cared about school back then... but that's a another story.) I've been back in school in a post-bac program for all of this past year and have a 4.0 from that, with my average GPA now around 2.9. There are actually several people who went to the school I'm currently attending in the post-bac program who were in my shoes almost exactly and got accepted into pharmacy school (none of whom had a 4.0 either, the post-bac GPAs ranged from 3.4 to 3.8). A couple of them actually had zero pharmacy experience and still got accepted. I'm expecting to do well on the PCAT since I tend to do really well on standardized tests and I know the material pretty damn well, not to mention I've been practicing quite a bit. I'm pretty confident I'll get in somewhere, and I'm sure you will too if you really want it. Granted, getting in somewhere like UCSF or UoP or one of those may be pretty difficult, but it doesn't really matter as from what I understand all pharmacy schools prepare their students well.

Keep at it man. You'll be fine.

I think you should apply. My record is similar to yours, I'm a mechanical engineer with a 3.2 GPA and 91 PCAT. The adcoms should take your background into account and the fact that you've gotten As in most of your prereqs. Engineering is definitely harder than pharmacy! I've gotten two interviews so far, hoping for more. Good luck.

In some state schools, they are more interested in how well you are doing in your recent years than your past years. They also concentrate more on your prerequisites than other courses. My advice for you is to retake the PCAT again, if you can jump it to the 90+ percentile, I think you will really get a chance. Also, just be frank with them and explain to them why your gap was so low if they asked you. If you get any earlier interview (the earlier the better, since most schools use rolling admission), then you get a chance.
