I am a junior and finished almost all of my prepharmacy prerequisite classes. I just talked to my adviser today and most pharmacy school look at your math/science GPA for admissions. Mine is a 2.9 and since I took all of my courses already there is no room for improvement unless I repeat some courses. My chem grades are what lowered my GPA.

Chem 1: B
Chem 2: B-
Orgo 1: B
Orgo 2: C

The counselor suggested that I repeat Chem 2 and orgo 2 to at least bring up my GPA to a 3.1-3.2 (assuming I make an A in it) This being said I want to apply this cycle so that means I have to retake chem 2 in the summer if I want my GPA to change before Fall semester starts.

I will be retaking orgo 2 in the fall again but is it worth to retake chem 2 so late in the game? The school I want to apply to requires a 3.0 minimum GPA. If I do take it the grades will be averaged, not replaced.

How do admission committee look upon repeated courses?

I would personally say that repeating Orgo 2 would be the only step that would be necessary.

How the heck are you people re-taking classes you passed? At both of my undergraduate schools, a "C or better" meant you couldn't re-take the course at all.

Have things changed since 2004?

Not here! Still considered an illegal repeat unless you have C- or worse.

It's the same here. You cannot retake a course unless you get a D or F (my school did not have the + or - system)

It depends on your undergraduate institution. At Purdue, I was able to retake a course within my major where I made a C. *shrug*

I believe it depends on the University. I attend the University of Central Florida and we are allowed two "grade forgiveness" chances during the course of our undergraduate time here. Both grades will stay on our transcripts, but the most recent grade will replace the other when calculating GPA.

Im pretty sure that many Pharmacy schools, including UF, use both grades to calculate the GPA though.
