Hey everyone! I was just wondering what the lowest gpa that you've heard of gaining acceptance into an mph program. Also, what school they got into. I have a low gpa (2.6) so I was just curious.... Thanks so much!

I know somebody that got in to ECU's MPH program with a 2.5
but i'm not sure on the reputation of that program

i'm estimating my GPA will be around 3.25 at the end of my senior fall semester. that's stressing me out too. =/

You asked this in a previous post and we all gave you suggestions on what else you can do to improve the other parts of your application. You need to bring your GPA up. Plain and simple. You'll struggle to get into any schools with that low of a GPA.

You'd have to have exemplary GRE scores to make up for your GPA. Plain and simple.

anything sub 3.0 is not fun (2.9 here). Anything sub close to 3.0 (so sub 2.9) is really no fun.

What gre score would be considered excellent? 1200 or above? I want to specialize in community health or health education. Not sure if that makes a difference as far as what verbal vs. Quantatative score they would consider excellent in light of my gpa. Thanks guys I realize all this stuff is repetitive but all ur help really helps

I dont understand the fact that you are trying to ask same exact questions in two different threads....
close one of the threads and stick to just one...most of your questions are answered in either one of the threads....and the GRE question you just asked was already answered by STORIES in your other thread titled "ANY ADVICE FOR ME?" i dont have a problem with two threads ...as long as you dont ask things that have been answered....but yeah...you would need atleast 80-85 percentile in all sections of GREs to back your low GPA...but its doable..just study hard...memorize the vocab....atleast teh 500 word list...and for math...just practice practice practice.....best thing about GRE is that there is unlimited material for practice (as compared to other graduate level exams like MCAT where students have to save practice material until the last month or something since there isnt much material for practice....) anyways ..i have a friend who got into UIC for Fall 09 with a 2.7 GPA with 1150 on GRE...no major extra curriculars......if that makes you feel better....(oh but he went to a top 25 undergrad school in US ).....anyways good luck...and dont think I was being rude about the two threads...i just pointed it out because I rmred reading it in your other thread..so Ithought you would keep up with your own threads as I do =) GOOD LUCK!

Most schools are looking for a GRE of 1100. However, your letter of intent, experience, references, and networking will determine the overall strength of your application.

Hi heyhey20,

We are in the same boat. My GPA is 2.74 and I wanna go for MPH in community health or health promotion, specifically in HIV/AIDS. I cannot comment much on your post since I haven't applied yet. But I think a competitive GRE score for the low GPA applicants will be around 1400 or at least 1350.

Also, I think extra curricular is also very important to compensate our low GPA. I am working at a HIV Research Centre as office/research assistant, and ever since I have worked here, I have been attending the talks and conferences. I am planning to go on an internship with UNAIDS if they would accept me. I am not sure if these things would help, but I think it's important that to try everything to fill up your CV and express your interest and determination.

thank you everyone! It's great to support one another, I am confident we will all be successful in our future endeavors! Good luck everyone!
