LSU-SVM Class of 2020 Applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It's an interesting omen because there was a tornado outbreak in MS the day i interviewed there...

I just didn't think about a tornado cause February is the only month of the year western Nebraska hasn't had a tornado. lol. I forgot MS is more in line with tornadoes any time.

Well to be fair, usually when a university closes in the middle of winter due to a storm, it's safe to assume snow. Louisiana is just a weird place lol.

Who is all from NOLA? Are you guys okay? Please check in.

y'all, a girl I know who interviewed at 11 am today said that they had to cancel afternoon interviews. A guy came in to the waiting room and said they are going to try and reschedule first or second week of March for those interviews, but we will probably not know if we are in until April. I really hope they can figure something out, and let us know quicker. D:

I may go a little crazy waiting! But I'd rather everyone's safety!

I'm back in CenLA watching quarter sized hail on my rental car

Does anyone know what the status of OOS decisions will be? Are they going to be affected by the IS interviews having to be rescheduled?

I'd hope not, but historically as I understand it they all come out at the same time.

didnt you get accepted to MSU too as OOS? 🙂

Yes I did and Mizzou! I'm so antsy though because I want to hear from everyone before making any decisions but I also want to choose soon so the wait listed people can hear sooner.

I suspect they wait to announce all at once because there seems to be 10 flexible spots that can go either IS or OOS. The portal says 65 IS and 15 OOS, but they said it could be 55 to 65 IS and 15 to 25 OOS.

Darn OOS'ers taking the IS spot numbers down!! Lol

Lol, if it makes you feel any better, it sounds like the IS pool got most if not all the 65 seats the last two years. So, I'm not holding my breath that they'll give those ten seats to OOS-ers.

They updated the Status Check System for OOS applicants!!

Nothing yet for Arkansas applicants. Mine hasn't been updated!

Oh I know lol! It'd be nice to have more diversity in the class for sure!

Do you think it'd be wrong for me to email and ask if interviews that have already happened will have delayed decisions?

I think it's a fair question. Please let me know the answer if you do ask lol, I'm going to lose my mind with the waiting over here.
Given that interviews are 10% of your total score, it's not unreasonable to think they may have some decisions already. BUT, I would also suspect they will announce all IS at one time. Who knows. Best of luck!

I emailed. He usually gets back fast so I'll let you know what's up!

The storm you all had yesterday has arrived.

Never got a response, guess we are not supposed to know lol. Oh well, it'll come when it comes.

Okay, I spoke too soon. Jared just got back to me. Over 30 IS interviews have to be rescheduled before the committee can even meet. So it's gonna be a while. Wish I had better news guys. Let's keep busy!

Ahh. That's frustrating. Did he give you any idea of what the new timeline for admissions looks like, or no?

He could not, but said decisions would be going or as quickly as possible once the committees met.

Are there any current LSU OOS vet students that can reflect on how easy/difficult it is to get residency for Louisiana?

Someone asked about this at the OOS reception last Friday. Jared said that once you start as an OOS student you cannot switch.

With that said, I don't know how LSU treats special cases such as marriage to a resident. I've read mixed things on this. If anyone has insight, I'd be curious to know the answer.

I swear, I hate myself. Everyday I check the portal at Jared's recommendation, everyday I see it gets updated, everyday I still manage to see the "Congratulations!" Part of my original interview invite and nearly fall out of my chair. March is going to be a very, very long month for me. 😕

I keep doing the same thing!

Hi everyone,

My gf accepted her offer from lsu Svm and we are currently looking for pet friendly places to live. We found what looks like an amazing place in lake beau pre but don't know much about the area. We don't want to live where all the undergrad students are partying or where there is high crime (obviously) but this home search is like the blind leading the blind. Do any current students know about the lake beau pre area or have any suggestions on pet friendly places where other vet students live? Also is $1450 for a 2 bedroom 2.5 bath reasonable? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much.

There are a lot of vet students living in Lake Beau Pre, as it's super close to the school, it's a good place to live. And a lot of places will reconsider their no pets policy if you mention you're a vet student. They seem to think we're responsible and good with animals or something ridiculous like that.

Vetmedgf,

My wife and I both had an apartment at Brightside Manor. I paid 900/month and she paid 750. We both had a two bedroom 1.5 bath. We never had any problems with loud neighbors because I think the partiers in that area stay in tigerland or campus crossing across the street. Lake beau pre is a more expensive area and you'll probably get nicer living spaces, but there are cheaper options. That being said, if I had the extra money I'd definitely rent a house in that area. All my information is from 2 years ago and ymmv. Good luck finding an apartment!

Also I wanted to add that you should avoid most places on the north side of campus. Lived in Northgate apartments almost 4 years ago and got a call from them a couple months ago asking if the maintenance guy had come fix my oven.👎

Good luck to anyone who has their interview today!!
