May 15th Countdown.

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You don't have a relative who can take your calls and call you where you are out of the country to inform you of what's going on?

Fortunately, i do have willing relatives. It's just that i will be on the constant move and will not be stationary in any region for more than 2 days max. STA Travel sells international phones for $40 or something like that...maybe i should look into investing in one of those.

Thanks for your advice though. i should probably inform schools tomorrow and seek their opinions.

ill be waiting in this thread with everyone else hah. ill basically know may 11th if ill be getting in..but in the meantime i'm trying to finalize some summer plans and revising my reapp personal statement and schools id apply to this time around.

definitely more private and less public. and a wider range...at least finals and graduation will be done before the 15th

Alright everyone, today is the day... We are officially 2 weeks from 15th... T-minus 14 days!! The waiting is starting to get to me...

Good Luck everyone - You guyz have been waiting on this thread for 35 days now! Hang on!

Just wanted to wish everyone good luck!!!

:luck::xf::luck::xf::luck::xf::luck:

Here is the final stretch...

I'm glad I'm not under this stress. Personally, I'm looking forward more to the 20th, when I'll be going to a Coldplay concert. 🙂

Nonetheless, I wish you all luck.

tick tock tick tock tick tock tick tock

I can't even focus on finals. Obsessing over May 15th is occupying 100% of my neuron capacity right now.

I understand the importance of the 15th, but I don't necessarily believe that movement will happen immediately after that day. Is there something I am missing?

Depends on the school and how they contact you. Some schools, there is literally a rush of movement on May 16th (this year it would be the 18th since the 15th falls on a Friday.)

Other schools will see movement in the weeks after. So, yes, you are missing that some schools notify via electronic means, such as e-mail and status page updates, and that those schools historically start moving the day after the 15th.

Good luck guys. I'm still waiting to hear from one school myself, so I'm sort of in the same boat.

Does anyone else feel like they are going to crack under the pressure???? I honestly can't wait anymore!!!

I sent in 2 letters today giving up my acceptances. Enjoy!

8 more days + Sat/Sun= 10 more days!!!!

Me. 😎 on the outside. :scared: on the inside.

Since May 15 is the big day, wouldnt schools have their waitlists ranked before then? So should we be hearing from schools who send out their WL rankings in the next couple days? Anyone got one already?

I agree. I know that AECOM's WL for one doesn't move till early June.

Med schools have overacceptances as well as the others accepted that they have to attrite and also w/l movement so it is not necessarily May 15th on the dot sometimes. Some schools will have movement right away and soe will have it at a slower pace. But either way most will have some degree of movement. Good luck.

I'm on the waitlist at the one school at interviewed me as well. I'm with you guys! Also really glad to know that there are others in the same position! Really hoping I get off this wait-list, or I'm gonna have to take on more debt reapplying...haha.

Guju, i know you mentioned you know people who were able to get off of the UF waitlist. You figure 1-2 letters a week will be persistent / annoying enough for them to take me off the waitlist so that I may stop sending them mail?

Alright people, this is it... Tomorrow is the 11th, which means 4/5 days left of waiting!! (Obviously we'll have to wait after that, but at least after that we know movement COULD happen!)

OUt of curiosity, who else here is going to be reapplying?

In other words are most people on this thread people with waitlists and no acceptances?

By the way JrJD, can I join Starfleet? My aptitude tests are off the charts

If we're on waitlists (w/o acceptances) what financial aid paper work, if any, should we have filled out by now?

FAFSA, and designated any schools that you are on the waitlists for. I'm pretty sure thats it... Thats all I've done anyway, and all I was told to do by the Financial aid office at one of the schools I am waitlisted at.

Sweet, thanks man. That's all i've done as well.

No prob 🙂 Good luck these next couple weeks!

Yeah, you too. I've already shifted my mind/efforts to getting together my app for this year. Lame.

no acceptances here, so yes, reapplying in june if don't hear back from my waitlists by then

I did my FAFSA, but I haven't designated any schools. Are waitlisted people really doing that? Won't the school think you're overly confident that you'll get in or something?

Did you go to the same place you always go for your FAFSA? That's what i did but the confusion set in when I couldn't choose the medical schools, simply had to choose graduate school or something like that. Either way, there was only one option for each university. Nothing like "Ohio State University" and "Ohio State University College of Medicine", it only had the main university name.

Did I fill out the wrong FAFSA, or is there only one?

Oh, and it does seem like you're being overly confident by designating the schools, but that's what they told me to do at my different interviews.

4 days!

6 for those of you who insist on raining on our parade 😀.

I wish with all my heart that my school calls me on 15th. But, apparently there are over-acceptances in my school. Still- I think this almighty thread can do miracles!

You need to check with whatever medical school you are on hold with. Contact their financial aid office and ask them what their "FAFSA code" is. Then you just enter that. Some medical schools have the same code as the undergraduate school and others don't.

It is totally fine to designate the schools before being accepted, you are on the waitlist! The few schools I talked to said that if you didn't have it done and designated it would really slow down the financial aid process once you are accepted. So you can imagine that if you are accepted off the waitlist in late July, having as much ready for them as possible will really speed things along.

For the waitlisted schools I'm still *really* interested in, I not only designated them on the FAFSA, I filled out and sent in all of the random financial aid paperwork as well. They just put it aside for if/when you get in, and I guess it really does make it a lot faster when that does happen.

🙂🙂🙂3 more days 🙂🙂

I'm so scared that May 15th and the next few week will pass by and I will still be on 4 waitlists with no acceptances. June 1st, I'm editing my application and looking for a job

Definitely in the same boat (6 waitlists, 0 accepts). Hopefully it works out for both of us.

You will all get off within the next few months. i'm sure of it.

Food,

Did you ever consult with the schools what was holding you back?

Hey - Only a few ever got back to me.

Wake Forest says it was my GPA fluctuation.

USF said the GPA was a concern but also cited a lack of experience / activities on the AMCAS.

I'll be re-applying a lot smarter this time, but since I'm not doing any SMP or anything academic, my GPA won't be changing =/

In a slightly crappier boat....1 waitlist 0 acceptances =/

Hope it works out for all three of us!

Does anyone know how long an applicant has to accept an offer off of a waitlist after May 15th if they already hold 1 acceptance? All I could find with AMCAS is that you risk having your offers rescinded if you hold more than 1 after May 15th. Does this depend on the school you're accepted at? The school which accepted you off the waitlist? Both? What do you guys think? A week?

So you have already asked the schools that rejected you why you got rejected? How did you do that- by phone or e-mail? Did any other schools reply?

Has anyone asked schools they are waitlisted at why they got waitlisted and how they can improve their chances of acceptance and gotten a useful or informative response?

If I remember correctly, they give you a week to decide, although I think it depends on the school, too.

I'm guessing that most of us have been on waitlists for so long that we already have a super complicated personal ranking system with every contingency and combination thought of 🙂

If not, I'd say you should have a pretty good idea of what you would do with offers if they came before May 15th so that you can respond quickly. If not for the school, for the other people on the waitlist for you who are waiting to find out where they are going.

Two weeks

Two weeks
But will we receive financial aid information before this two week window closes? I've sent the fafsa to everyone, but some schools refuse to forward their supplementary FA papers until you have an official acceptance in hand, while others send them to every waitlisted candidate.

If 2 schools have cited GPA then I strongly suggest you do something. Remember you do not need to raise GPA by doing a SMP that is overly pricey and risky. My suggest is move to Tampa and do the anatomy MS program which is far cheaper and less risky or the Molecular Medicine or Med Micro and Immunology program. Otherwise do a postbac degree in biomedical sciences at USF or UCF's postbac program.

I also advise that if you do that get involved in a lot more local hospitals or clinics for volunteering as well as regular community service or research.

That is if you don't get off the w/l this year.

Hey Guju,

I have already begun a lot of volunteering activities - currently 3 - 2 at hospitals and 1 at a hospice. I am hoping to send these as individual updates to UF this week / next week.

I thought about the post-bacc / USF MM masters, but gave up on the idea of doing them a couple months ago. I still don't know if I did the right thing...my thinking was that if I simply added a good number of clinical volunteering (as opposed to this being a significant weakness last year) and applied much earlier this time (as opposed to last year) and if I applied much more broadly (also opposed to last year) that I could scrape by without doing another year of school. My other reason for not wanting to do a program like that was that I felt I would not get interviewed this cycle as they would want to see my grades.

After reading your post though - I'm having second thoughts. The problem is that most of the deadlines seem to have passed for applying to these programs. I went to USF's website to look at the program details - and I cannot find any hint of deadline for that program (they have a deadline for IMS posted - but I wasn't looking at that anyway). I might just be stupid...so if you know what the deadline is please let me know! (but I'm pretty sure it's passed for USF).

Also - I can't find a link to a UCF post-bac program such as the one you're describing. I do see a UCF Biomedical sciences masters program but it looks to be a real, legit masters - not a pre-med Post-bac.

Thanks!

2 more days til the 15th. I can't believe it's this close.

Is it pretty typical for a lot to happen on the 15th? I know people have to drop to one acceptance, but do the schools send out a lot of acceptances as well? It seems like they would take a few days to decide.

Not necessarily. A lot of schools are already accepting WL people, others start accepting on 15th and there are still others that wait for the dust to settle down and start accepting in June. At this point schools have pretty good idea of whom they want to ultimately accept off the waitlists - they start reviewing WL applicants as early as April.

If you are going to do one of those MS programs I'd advise Med Micro and Immunology. You get the opp to do the MM program classes but with the added benefit of getting research credits as well. Hopefully it won't come down to having to do this but I'd send in app just as a backup plan.

well, I just sent the primary package. I'm working on the secondary stuff, but frankly I have no idea what the hell I'm doing or if this is even the best thing to do. Are you sure it's not too late to submit this stuff now?
