i have not done anything this week. not that i did anything the whole semester. but tomorrow i might have a heart attack. at least it will be all over by the end of the day. i can just move on with life.
 
I didn't even apply to Mayo, but I've skimmed this thread every few weeks and am definitely hoping for the best for all of you today, espeically you, Phoenix!

In the past I think they've usually been made around 11:30am CST. But since this is the last batch, who knows?

I think I'll call around 2 or 3pm. Hopefully they'll have made the calls by then and I can get a full report from Jane on Mayo adcom activities of the day.
 
Sorry guys, I just called and spoke with Jane, and she said that Marcy already made the last acceptance calls. They don't know if all of those notified will accept the acceptance yet, but the class is technically full.

Jane also said that she doesn't know when the waitlist will be created. I asked if it might be next week, and she said she didn't know, and that there could be some delay because fourth years are getting the match list next week. I'm not sure how that would hold things up, but perhaps Dr. Barrier spends a lot of time regarding that.

It sounded like Marcy will be the one coordinating sending out the waitlist/rejection emails (she was out when I called), but Jane said she's pretty sure Marcy hasn't heard from Dr. Barrier about when the lists will be created yet.

I was really hoping they'd send the emails out today. Ah well. Guess I should get back to work and be more productive now that I can stop wondering if my phone will ring.

Keep your chin up, guys. About 10-15 will likely still get in off the waitlist! 😳

well this sucks. at least we're in it together!

how much hope do u have for the waitlist? i mean, i know there's chance several of us might get in, but that means waiting every single day for that email or phone call!

besides, we'll be in limbo over whatever other choices we might have (i'm not too happy about mine).

i can't feel content with this in any way! how r u guys surviving?

Well, if we use very rough numbers, 350 were interviewed, about 50 have been accepted (really 42/43), and the waitlist could be as large as 100 (it was 100 people two cycles ago when there were also 350 interviewees). So, I'm guessing at least 200 will be rejected upfront, with up to 100 on the waitlist. And of those, 10-15 will get accepted. The other thing to be aware of is that once someone declines their acceptance, they try to take someone off the waitlist that is somehow similar so they maintain the diversity of the class.

The only caveat there is that I think if any of the people who were accepted today decline their acceptance outright, they'd pick the next couple of applicants of the top of the pile (per Jane).

As for my own chances, I figure I could sub for a 30-something female, or someone with MD/JD or health care policy interests. Truth be told, I figure my chances are slim to none.

besides, we'll be in limbo over whatever other choices we might have (i'm not too happy about mine).

Well, I pretty much convinced myself it wasn't going to happen about a month ago, so I'm not as sad as I should be today. Also, I'm fortunate to have acceptances at schools that I'm really excited to attend, so I'm content. Sure, Mayo would be AMAZING, but if it's not meant to be, it's not meant to be. I really feel for you guys who don't have any viable acceptances in hand yet. 😳:luck:😳
 
Sorry I didn't post earlier, but I got a call from Marcy this morning that I got in and got the deans scholarship! 🙂 My grandfather would be so happy if he were still alive....

For those of you who get on the alternate list, best of luck to you! I really hope to see you guys next year. :luck::luck::luck:

Thanks for the information. I hope the waitlist comes out soon though only 10-15 people are likely to get off of the waitlist.

Sorry LameDonkey, I will be attending Mayo. My wife and I are actually in Rochester right now looking at places to live. I do know one person that got accepted but will probably be going somewhere else if that helps.

I went to Weber. Now you've got me hoping again. I've been starting to think it might be better to get rejected at this point rather than agonizing for the next several months over the waitlist. Where's your friend going to go instead?
 
Three cheers for Phoenix. I have no dog in this hunt. But I have been following this thread to see how it turns out for you. Odds are it is not going to happen, inspite of your Mayo love. But you have some great options and are mature enough to take advantage of those opportunities, and have a great med school experience. So I tip my hat to maturity, and who knows, perhaps lightning will strike the waitlist at Mayo, but whatever happens, all will be well for you. Good luck.

And to further cheer myself up, I've been vacation brainstorming the last day or two. Gotta take a break before starting med school, and I may as well use some of those last corporate-earned dollars for it. First I thought I'd take my dog and go to Key West. Then I was reminded it will be hurricane weather in June/July. Then I was thinking the coast of Texas. Meh. Now I'm set on Costa Rica. 😎 Anyone else here day dreaming about a pre-med school trip? Might cheer this thread up a bit as we wait for rejection/waitlist emails. 🙄

June/July is the rainy season in Costa Rica. I was there during that time and the rain is insane. At like 1 it rains everyday, a TORRENTIAL rain like you've never seen. It can last 1 hour some days or all night on other days. Usually it rained until after dinner.

It's a beautiful place, but be prepared and bring an umbrella.

Glad the forums are back up. I was eager to share with you guys that I spoke to Marcy a little while ago, and she said she's planning on sending the waitlist and rejections emails out today. She said she's working on it right now (in between taking calls - oops!). :luck:

Rats! I should have asked when I called. But Marcy made a point of saying that she was trying to get the email out while having to answer calls too, so I very quickly thanked her for her time and hung up. My bad.

As for my guess - I'd say there will probably be around 50-100 waitlist emails, and the rest rejections (200+). That's my prediction.

I just received an alternate list offer, the e-mail was sent around 1:30 PM PST. I am very surprised because I thought I didn't have great interviews but yea it was a pleasant surprise! Hang in there guys!:luck:

Thanks for posting! And congrats!!!

I just broke down and called again and got someone named Curtis (I think). He said that Marcy has been sending out the waitlist emails in waves, and that she's not done yet. And they're planning on getting out both the waitlist and rejection emails today. He didn't know how many people would be on the waitlist this year. :luck:

It's funny, but I've been much more anxious today than I was last Friday.

YIKES!!!! 😱😱😱 I JUST got the alternate status email!
