Hey now, there are 50 overall...maybe some of the people they accepted were for the "other programs" like MD-PhD and that Dental Surgery thing...

So maybe it's 50-14.

And bear in mind, we will be interviewing with about 300 people total before the season's up.

Yup, but I think only slightly more than half have interviewed so far.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe MSTP's aren't rolling, and are accepted same day across the nation. I have no idea how the maxial-facial acceptances work though.

Edit: maybe it's not by chance that this year 7 people were accepted both times. 6x7 = 42, Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb, March, followed by the March 15th waitlist

Got the call this morning! Marcy told me seven appointments were going out. For everyone who is on hold, be optimistic that this process is far from over and I hope to meet some of you next year.

(For what it's worth, I sent in a Letter of Intent after I finished all my interviews and decided Mayo was the school for me. I don't know how much of a difference it made, but if you have picked Mayo as your top choice, it can't hurt.)

congrats!!! :d

Congrats Knuck000!... btw... I was looking at your profile, did you perhaps interview on Oct. 6? I think we may have been at the same interview. I think that there were a couple of people from AZ at that interview day, so I can't really remember.

How did you write your letter of intent? I wrote a thank you note to the admin that expressed my interest, but it wasn't an official letter of Intent. I fell in love with Mayo and would like to profess that to the school.😛 😍

Also, does anyone know if people get rejected post interview?

I am on hold 🙁 ....:xf::xf::xf:

Not until March 15th

Congrats Knuck!

As for LOI, just write about why you want to go to Mayo.

Picture Braveheart... Hold Hold HOLD HOLD

I got that email this morning too. :xf: This process makes me 🙁.

Congrats Everybody!

Wow, for a class of 42, this thread sure gets a lot of responses.

I have an interview coming up and I was just wondering if you guys could tell me if they were open/closed file, how many other interviewees interviewed with you on interview day, and on average how long your interviews laster (and if they were student or faculty)? Also, any general advice would be greatly appreciated.

Best of luck for everyone waiting to hear post-interview!

Cheers,
ganesh

Open file
4-8 interviewees per day usually
1 hour per interview, I had 1 student 1 faculty
Know your application, mostly I was asked about my research

Thanks for the congrats! I did interview on Oct. 6 and I was one of the two students there from AZ.

My letter of intent stated how I enjoyed my interview at Mayo and why I felt we were a great fit for each other. I made sure to be specific about what it was that I loved about Mayo. I attached the letter to an email and sent it to Marcy to be attached to my file. I don't know how much of a difference it made, and I would only send it if you are certain that this is your very top school. Good luck!

The interviews are open file, and both of my faculty and student interviewers were very familiar with my entire application. There were 8 interviewees on my day, but I've heard it can be anywhere from 2-10. The interviews lasted between 45 min to an hour. Some general advice is to try to be familiar with what makes Mayo unique (salaried physicians, patient-centered philosophy, unique curriculum, etc...). Good luck!

Congrats knuck & doctordeman! I'm really happy for you guys. It's quite the cloud 9 feeling, and it lasts a looooong time. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

And I think that the rest of you guys still have as good a chance of getting accepted in the next few rounds as you did in this one. I definitely have classmates that were put on hold and then accepted in the very next round of interviews. And then there's always the waitlist, which I was lucky enough to get in off of. My point is that not even half the class has been appointed yet. It's a long hard wait, but if the stars align, it's more than worth it. :luck:

Hi All! I'm new to SDN as a member, but I've been perusing the site to hear what other Mayo applicants are saying. Crazy! I got the hold email yesterday as well. Hopefully it will all turn out alright. Good to hear other people are anxious as well!

Wow this thread is getting quiet. But fear not, I have been rejuvenated by the 2 pounds of turkey breast that I've consumed today! Turkey has higher protein to fat ratio than chicken breasts 🙂

Ahhh....I am trying to write my letter of interest and I don't even think I can keep it to two pages....there are just too many great things to talk about!

WoW! Im suprised....this thread has been pretty dead the past couple of days

Hope you guys are all doing well and had a nice Thanksgiving. As for an update, from what I've heard, 16 appointments have been made so far (although technically one spot was someone who was accepted last year and had deferred), and the next appointments will likely (this is an estimate) go out after christmas. As for invites, around 200 or so interview invites have gone out so far, and around 70 more will go out, likely given out by the beginning of January. :luck:

Thanks Phoenix! I just interviewed a few weeks ago and am still waiting to get ranked but I absolutely loved Mayo! The wait is going to kill me but hopefully it will be worth it!

Does anyone know the approximate timeframe from LOR received to interview invite/reject these days? I've been complete for just over 6 weeks now. I'm not panicking as it seems Mayo is a bit slow, but just curious if anyone can give me any insight.

Mine application took 7 weeks and a day from LOR request to interview invite.

Aww, I had hoped it would be before new year. At least I now know what to wish for 🙂

On Monday Marcy said there would likely be another round of appointments going out just before the holidays.

Marcy told me something very similar on my interview day about a week and a half ago

How long does ranking take? I interviewed 10/17 and still haven't heard anything.

it depends. Both your interviewers must be present for you to get ranked. Mine took 3 weeks which was probably on the faster side.

Hi all - I'm new to SDN, but I just got accepted last Monday! 😀 I also wrote a letter of intent as well as very detailed thank you letters. Good luck everyone!

congrats! which day did you interview on?

Thanks! Indeed, I received an invite this morning, roughly seven weeks from when I was marked complete. Yay!

Apologies - it does sound like the next round of appointments may be made the week of the christmas holiday, so probably before the new year.

Congrats nameloc and aebvd97! Feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

Congrats to all who have been accepted!! I am also a first-year at Mayo and I am soo happy here! Please let me know if you have any questions 🙂

Thanks Phoenix. I think you win the award for the most helpful SDNer. Take that Shemarty .

Anyway, can you remind me the best/different option for traveling to Mayo via flight. I know you've probably wrote about this several times, but I don't feel like scanning the thread.

😀 Thanks!

As for flight options, it really just depends on where you're flying from and what the prices are. The most convenient is flying directly to Rochester, but that's usually more expensive. Alternatively, you could fly into Minneapolis and then take a shuttle to Rochester. I believe the shuttle costs about $30 each way and is probably about an hour and a half, and I've heard it's pretty painless.

The only additional issue I'd mention is that it's winter now, so flight delays are much more likely. From what I've heard regarding weather delays, Minneapolis is a bit more reliable than flying into/out of a small airport like Rochester. When I had my interview last December I didn't have any problems flying into Rochester, but my outbound flight from Rochester to Chicago was delayed three hours. Just keep that in mind if you have connections - I wouldn't make them too close in the winter.

wooo!! lor request today. one step further!

Congrats!

I will echo what Phoenix said about the Rochester airport being unreliable. I have lived in Rochester my whole life and had massive problems with the airport in both inbound and outbound flights even in the absence of severe weather conditions.

Fly into Minneapolis and take the Rochester Direct shuttle. It's comfortable and short.

wooo!! lor request today. one step further!

you made the hardest cut 🙂 I believe only 500 people or so get LOR request, and slightly over half get an interview so your chances are > 50%

mayo is my dream school...

you can try sending a letter of interest pre-interview

The post-anatomy Phoenix 🙂 Did you interview last week? I believe last week was first week of their new block

Anyone been ranked lately? I am still patiently waiting.....does it usually take the full 6 weeks that they estimate?

It did not take me the full six weeks, but in order to be ranked both of your interviewers must be present. This may take longer for some than others. As soon are you are ranked, you will be sent an email.

Best of luck!!

i haven't been ranked either and it's been over six weeks

like people have said, it takes until both your interviewers can be present on the same day. So it might take a while if you aren't lucky.

i wonder how long it will take this late in the cycle to hear back after i've submitted my letters of rec? hmm....i'm still just excited that i got a lor request!!!!

I have no idea but my guess is it should be faster this late in the cycle, provided you have a strong app. You could search the 2008 thread for a rough idea.

thanks, gloryfield. i called marcy today to ask about getting an email confirmation upon reception of letters of rec and she mentioned that this late in the cycle it is likely i will hear about an interview before christmas....

oh mayo, i pine for thee.

Finally ranked - how often does the committee meet?

Finally ranked - how often does the committee meet?

Not sure, but if you're asking about when the committee meets because you're wondering when appointments may go out, the two don't seem to be directly related. I could be wrong, but my impression is that rankings are made at committee meetings, but not necessarily appointments. However, it sounds like the next round of appointments may go out right before the holidays. :luck:
