i dont know if i missed sumthin, how come some people were waitlisted and others were put on hold the same day?

Technically no one is on the waitlist yet. The true waitlist will not be created until early next week.

To clear up some confusion, here is a clarifying email from Marcy about last Friday, and where things currently stand:

The deans decided at the last minute that they wanted to offer some acceptances on Friday morning. They appointed six students to make the total acceptance offers to 43. They will be overbooking the class slightly. As planned, there will be another round of acceptances going out on March 13. I cannot guarantee how many. Hold is not alternate list. An e-mail invitation will be sent to those students that we are inviting to an alternate list, and those have not yet been sent out for this admissions cycle. The formation of an alternate list and rejections will go out starting the week of March 16.

As requested, here is the first year schedule for that Thursday and Friday in case those of you visiting want to arrange to sit in on a class (might have to clear it with Marcy first - but I would imagine it's fine). We don't have any classes from 8-10am that week because we're doing our first real patient exams during that time in a rotating schedule. 😀 Also, the pharmacology lecture at 10am on Thursday will have a 10 question ARS quiz first, but I can't imagine it will take long, and the lecturer (Dr. Michael Ackerman) is pretty engaging (despite the fact that I prefer micro a thousand times over pharm). We haven't had the lecturer that will be giving the virology lectures that week yet (Dr. Abinash Virk), so I can't estimate about how interesting those lectures will be, but I like studying bugs, so don't trust my opinion anyway. Also, on the days when there is a two hour lecture scheduled, we almost always have a 5-10 minute break after the first hour, so you would be able to slip out easily then if you just wanted to sit in for an hour. So, the lectures for those days are:

Thursday
10-12: Pharmacology - Receptor and Ion Channel Pharmacology 101
12-1: Lunch break
1-3: Pharmacology (Autonomic) - Part I - Adrenergics

Friday
10-12: Microbiology - Virology (Papilloma, smallpox, etc. 10-11; Yellow Fever, Dengue, West Nile, etc. 11-12)
12-1: Lunch break
1-2: Microbiology - Virology (Ebola, prions, etc.)
2-3: Pharmacology - Therapy for Viral Infections

Also, I haven't taken a look at the facebook group, so I don't know what you've planned already, but if you guys want to get together with some current students let me know and I'm sure we can get a group together.

mayo is unforetunetely my last chance to get in anywhere this cycle... and i have below average stats. I was so happy to interview at mayo, and if there was a rejection that i would not feel bad about, it would be the one from mayo cus i would kno y. the students i met were amazin, and my fellow interviewees were incredible.

has anyone bothered reapplying to mayo?

Marcy Mentioned that they usually interview around 270 people. They send a little over 300 invites but towards the end of the cycle less people accept the interview invites.

What does it mean if I didn't get a hold email last Friday? I got put hold before February, so their emails reach me OK, but I didn't get an email when the last round of acceptances went out...

I haven't gotten any calls either (at least I don't think), so I don't think I'm accepted.

Also does anyone know if they call your home phone or your cell, if you get in?

Hi all - apparently 7 appointments went out today. I just talked to Marcy, and she said that on Monday or Tuesday a waitlist will be sent out as well as some rejections . . . 🙁

bummer....this makes me sad! Especially since very few people will get off the waitlist this year since they already overbooked the class by 8 people. Marcy said they usually get movement of around 15-20 people but even so on a waitlist of 100 people are chances will be pretty small even if we get on the waitlist. I am still hoping tho!
