To clear up some confusion, here is a clarifying email from Marcy about last Friday, and where things currently stand:

The deans decided at the last minute that they wanted to offer some acceptances on Friday morning. They appointed six students to make the total acceptance offers to 43. They will be overbooking the class slightly. As planned, there will be another round of acceptances going out on March 13. I cannot guarantee how many. Hold is not alternate list. An e-mail invitation will be sent to those students that we are inviting to an alternate list, and those have not yet been sent out for this admissions cycle. The formation of an alternate list and rejections will go out starting the week of March 16.

As requested, here is the first year schedule for that Thursday and Friday in case those of you visiting want to arrange to sit in on a class (might have to clear it with Marcy first - but I would imagine it's fine). We don't have any classes from 8-10am that week because we're doing our first real patient exams during that time in a rotating schedule. 😀 Also, the pharmacology lecture at 10am on Thursday will have a 10 question ARS quiz first, but I can't imagine it will take long, and the lecturer (Dr. Michael Ackerman) is pretty engaging (despite the fact that I prefer micro a thousand times over pharm). We haven't had the lecturer that will be giving the virology lectures that week yet (Dr. Abinash Virk), so I can't estimate about how interesting those lectures will be, but I like studying bugs, so don't trust my opinion anyway. Also, on the days when there is a two hour lecture scheduled, we almost always have a 5-10 minute break after the first hour, so you would be able to slip out easily then if you just wanted to sit in for an hour. So, the lectures for those days are:

Thursday
10-12: Pharmacology - Receptor and Ion Channel Pharmacology 101
12-1: Lunch break
1-3: Pharmacology (Autonomic) - Part I - Adrenergics

Friday
10-12: Microbiology - Virology (Papilloma, smallpox, etc. 10-11; Yellow Fever, Dengue, West Nile, etc. 11-12)
12-1: Lunch break
1-2: Microbiology - Virology (Ebola, prions, etc.)
2-3: Pharmacology - Therapy for Viral Infections

Also, I haven't taken a look at the facebook group, so I don't know what you've planned already, but if you guys want to get together with some current students let me know and I'm sure we can get a group together.

And of course, good luck to those of you still waiting to hear back! It's not over til it's over! :luck:

does anyone have an idea of how many people interviewed this year?

i can't wait till friday...
mayo is unforetunetely my last chance to get in anywhere this cycle... and i have below average stats. I was so happy to interview at mayo, and if there was a rejection that i would not feel bad about, it would be the one from mayo cus i would kno y. the students i met were amazin, and my fellow interviewees were incredible.

has anyone bothered reapplying to mayo?

Marcy Mentioned that they usually interview around 270 people. They send a little over 300 invites but towards the end of the cycle less people accept the interview invites.

What does it mean if I didn't get a hold email last Friday? I got put hold before February, so their emails reach me OK, but I didn't get an email when the last round of acceptances went out...

I haven't gotten any calls either (at least I don't think), so I don't think I'm accepted.

Also does anyone know if they call your home phone or your cell, if you get in?

Thanks! Just got home from a day of three midterms in a row. Whew. Spring Break!

Regarding the posts, I had it a lot worse back in october/november.
 
I'm betting on notice of non-selection next week. (Not waitlist).

I think they should at least send candidates gift cards to some of our favorite stores if they're going to make us travel all the way out to nowhere-Minnesota for the express purpose of rejecting us. 😉
 
i'm feeling the same, pianola...rejection next week. i'm not being pessimistic, just realistic...good luck to everyone else!!!

hmmm...i think marcy said that the last appointments would be going out on the 13th of march when i interviewed last month, but i lost the paper i was taking notes on about all of that stuff so i am not 100% sure...
 
One more thing....

Does anybody know if updates continue to be important after the waitlist has been formulated?? This question is assuming that my relationship w/Mayo doesn't end tomorrow...... hmm... :barf:

It's ok. I've had a long tumultuous relationship with May since early August. I think I'm ready to let go at this point.

Give me a yes or a no, baby, but don't leave me hanging...
 
Hi all - apparently 7 appointments went out today. I just talked to Marcy, and she said that on Monday or Tuesday a waitlist will be sent out as well as some rejections . . . 🙁

bummer....this makes me sad! Especially since very few people will get off the waitlist this year since they already overbooked the class by 8 people. Marcy said they usually get movement of around 15-20 people but even so on a waitlist of 100 people are chances will be pretty small even if we get on the waitlist. I am still hoping tho!

Hmmm...

I got this email from MMS:

The Mayo need-based grant program provides limited funding to students who meet specific financial criteria. Awards range from $500-$4,500 annually. These funds are awarded based on the financial strength of the student as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Mayo Medical School does not require parental data on the FAFSA. You can complete this form on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Be sure to use school code 017114 when completing the FAFSA.
 
Not a problem, I was just really surprised when i found two posts immediately during when I was posting my response. Glad to know we are all busy with FAFSA's tonight.
 
Wait so are ppl putting Mayo and schools that we haven't heard from yet on their FAFSA form? Is that what we're supposed to do even though we still might be rejected? I thought that we could just add schools on later or something . . .
