lola, at ucdavis, prepared a good joke for the interview, because the guy who interviewed me said that he asks all his interviewees to tell a joke.

Hey, I had to tell a joke too! I wonder if we had the same interviewer, qdefiant? Was it a student who asked you that? Mine was a second year, initials **. My faculty interviewer didn't ask for a joke.

mystic, from what I gathered from my interviews, ucdavis is big on having a sense of humour, being unique, and able to contribute something to the your class. Both of my interviewers asked almost exactly the same questions. And yes, it was the student who made me to tell a joke, I forgot his initials, but he's a short dude around 5'3", he was cool and I think he wrote a positive evaluation for me.

i just want to tell everyone to have faith and there is hope. my stats are so low that for anyone else it would be a joke to even apply. But I had 7 interviews so far, 2 coming up and 1 acceptance from....columbia university. so there is a God, i tell you. 😱

p.s. for those who really want to know
(23S, 3.0GPA, however, excellent e.c. and 5 scientific publications during my one year off of school)

Sounds like the same student! I think he wrote me a positive eval too. He was easy to talk to though, so I suppose everyone does fairly well with him. Yeah, both interviewers asked practically the same questions too. The admissions office warned us in the morning not to worry if that was the case because it's UCD standard practice to do so. The student did also tell me not to divulge what the interview questions are like to other people yet to interview, but I think the cat's out of the bag at this point anyways. 😉 Yes, I think that they want to find out about our sense of humor, and the joke thing was just that particular student's way of ascertaining what ours is like. No, I haven't heard anything from Davis post-interview. I'm waiting for that "On-hold email" that lots of people have discussed.

Oh yeah, one more interesting thing is that Davis does give applicants a numerical score, because I could see a "Final UCD score," written on my app, and a number after that.

wow, thanks guys! i can definitely use all the help i can get at this point. my gtown interviewer asked me to tell a joke, and all i could remember was this stupid joke i learned back in 2nd grade or something. i'll have to try to think of a better one than that 😉. the only semi-funny joke i know is a little dirty!

Hey guys, they must've liked my joke at UC Davis! I just got my snailmail acceptance dated 3.21, the day we were discussing our joke-telling interview stories! I just thought that was a great coincidence, and a pretty pleasant surprise as well. 😀

Oh yeah, thinking back to my interview just now, in addition to a telling joke, I was asked what animal I would like to be. Talk about funny interview questions! So yeah, they really want to know what your sense of humor is like.

Note: just so no one's confused, I don't quite fit into the category of this thread, but am of course a big supporter of those who are discussing stuff here. 🙂
