I recently graduated with a Bs in Radiation Oncology. Considering applying to DO schools but kinda hestitant because of an academic downfall I suffered in my frist yr, which still hunts me down till now. My current gpa stands at 3.1 overall, and 3.2 science. I have not taken the MCAT yet. Whats sort of a score do I need on my MCAT to go along with my gpa to be considered for admission?
Thanks much all

I would shoot for at least 24 with a 3.1.
Obviously, it would be better if you had between 27-32.
Good luck!
The MCAT average for most DO schools is 24-27. Shoot for around that or higher with a GPA that is somewhat lower. IF you have an upward trend in your gpa, schools understand that. Your score in pre-req classes are also really important. Get some DO letter of rec and finally
Apply as early as possible, that will increase your chances if you are less competitve score wise.

I'm in the 2009 class at UNTHSC-TCOM. Our average MCAT was 28, and GPA was somewhere near 3.65 or 3.7
I think you will see these numbers vary from school to school.

I'm going to assume you are interested in Radiation Oncology since that is what your BS is in. If so, it should be noted that it is very difficult for a DO to get into this residency. There are no DO residencies in this discipline either.I recently graduated with a Bs in Radiation Oncology. No MCAT needed 🙄 , but you must pass the D.O. entrance exam or DOEE which can administered by any local kindergarten teacher.
P.S. You may want to pick up some study tools such as a box of crayons (for learning colors) and one of those blocks with different shapes cut into it and the corresponding blocks of wood to fill said box.
Good luck and remember study early and hard!!!
(Entirely joking, I just get fed up with some pre-allo's who think osteopathy is a joke and that we're all idiots).
See, in another forum, Kubed from TUCOM-Nevada proves the point: "I would also recommend getting the coloring book for physiology (I don't think it was on the recommended list).

Why hasn't the OP responded?
It was my impression that he meant what MCAT is needed not whether or not it was needed...
In response I'd probably say you should shoot for a 25. You can get in with less with a good GPA, but with a 3.1/3.2 I'd say you at least need to be in the mid and preferably upper 20's. Do you have any special publications or extracurriculars?

Yes. I have over 3500 hrs of clinical experience at 3 diff facilities. Have tons of community involvment. And I won a publication in the MSRT journal in my senior yr of my program.
WIth all this in mind, Iam not sure if the schools would still accept my MCAT in Jan 07, cuz to be honest with you, I don't know if I can wait any longer !

n=1 doesn't prove a point. Look at the match lists and you'll see a lack of matches into RO.Believe it or not. I worked with a resident in the Radiation Oncology dept. that was a DO 😉
EDIT: In 2006, Only 9 people who are non-US MD Seniors matched.
