MCAT Registration.... Arrgh

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Do they REALLY mean it when they say that nothing has sold out? Cause my first choice testing center says no seats available! Do I grab my second choice to have a seat on that date (haven't checked if they're available though), or wait until tomorrow if it really is a snafu?
are you sure that you have the correct date?

It sure would be nice if a discount were offered to compensate for our frustrations!!!!! Either that or some additional points added to our scores 🙂

wow, after 8 freaking long and frustrating hours, I finally was able to register :meanie:

APRIL 7TH, 2006 - let the fun begin......🙄

😱

It took me 8 hours to get registered. What a joke. Wasted a whole day but still got the testing date that I wanted.

I decided to try it without bringing up the map and I got in without too many headaches.

Hope it was wroth it. Just keep trying and watch your credit card charges for multiples.

Phoenix1- Did you select your first choice testing center before, get kicked back, and now can't get it?

are you sure that you have the correct date?

Yes. I picked the last date in April (the 16th I believe), then clicked "find a seat" at the location I wanted, and it said "no seats available." After that I hit "reload" since none of the other "find a seat" were clickable anymore, and I'm still waiting for the site to reload. GRRRRRRRRR.

Are they SURE nothing has filled up???

No, this was the FIRST time I got to that page and searched for a seat. And it didn't even take all that long to tell me there were no seats available! If it's sold out, I would pick the other location, but if Copa/Ellen is right, and nothing is full, then I'd rather wait since we can't get a refund for changing anything. Right? What to do?

I think a few people were having this problem because the site timed you out if "searching for seats" took longer than a certain amount of time. Keep trying though because, as Ellen said, no centers are full as of yet!!

Woohoo!!! After 9 hours in front of this damn computer...I'm registered!!!! I'm a May 11th in Hamden CT...I think there's plenty of seats available if anyone else out there is going for the same slot.

My tip for anyone still suffering: once you get a loaded page (the map, the payment page, etc.) open up a number of windows and keep reloading the same address. Once one of them connects to the next step, close the non-working windows and repeat from there. This probably doesn't help the congestion on the server at all, but screw it--you deserve to do whatever you want after wasting a whole day of vacation just to spend $210 bucks on a huge stressful test that you don't want to take anyways.

Good luck everyone! 🙂

Ack! That's absolute death to the servers. That's probably accounting for a lot of the performance hit.

That's the logic that gave us global warming. But I understand you frustration.

After it saying my site was full (twice) after just taking 2-3 minutes to search for a seat, and giving me a broken icon where the "reserve a seat!" icon should be (six times!), I finally got to input my credit card info, clicked pay, and NOTHING. After 5 minutes I still had a blank page, but with "reserve failure" in the address line above. Clicked "back" and am trying to get back to the payment page. I did not get an email, so I'm assuming it didn't go through. Unreal. Are we beta testing their site or something? NINE hours and counting.

I'm registered. Only took me approximately twice as long to register for the MCAT as it will for me to take it.

It took me 9 hours, but i'm done. Atleast i don't have to worry about it anymore. For those of you who couldn't register, keep tryin!:luck: :luck: :luck:

Nine hours, 45 minutes. Never did see the payment go through, but I just got an email that almost made me cry.

REGISTERED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If your payment doesn't go through, and it's been a long time (or it's the second or third time you've refreshed your payment page - keep an eye on the clock), I found that going back to the payment page and re-entering your payment didn't work because your reserved seat had been released during that time. You really need to go back to "search for a seat" when that happens. Good luck everyone.

One more thing. Even if your payment doesn't appear to go through, check your email. The website never responded to my "payment," and I just got a blank page for a long time, and then it reloaded the page with my credit card information again asking me to pay. Meanwhile, my email said I was registered. So, don't rely on seeing any expected response on the web site. After you click "pay," check your email before deciding it didn't go through, even if nothing happens.

it says that there is a seat available, but when it goes to the payment it says that there is longer a seat left.

i feel bad for you guys who have been at this all day. i just started and i'm already frustrated.

How long did it take you guys for the map to search seats. It's been at least 5-10 minutes so far!

After hearing the complaints about the map loading time, I never tried. Just click to search for a site by state. It's a link under where you'd enter your zip code. I clicked my state, and then a list comes up of all the testing sites in your state. Much faster, apparently. Luck.

It appears that the pace is indeed picking up.
Two sites are full on April 7:

261 SHEEP DAVIS ROAD
CONCORD NH

4815 BURNING TREE ROAD
DULUTH MN

Looks like about 1000 have successfully registered, so far.

After 7+ hours of trying.... finally got the e-mail confirmation of my registration. I second the tip given by phoenix1 above... the map searching just was not working for me. Also, if you're not a traditional pre-med and don't need to release your scores to your undergrad pre-med committee, you can click "no" on that radio button, and it will save you some time. I did have to input my credit card info twice before I received any confirmation, but I'll just have to keep an eye on my online statement to make sure I wasn't double charged. :luck: to those still trying!!

ok am freaking out now. I havent gotton the confirmation email from AAMC yet BUT my status on the website is updated saying i am registered.

:scared: :scared: 🙁

Damn, my clock is still going round and round searching for a seat at my desired site. Going on 30 mins, is this normal?

Finally registered...instead of using the map, select the testing center by date and state.

I think they should temporarily get rid of the fancy AAMC graphics, and switch to a text-only site in order to take some strain off the server.

See you April 7th @ 8AM.

I thought the reporting time was 30 days with the CBT? Did anyone else notice in their confirmation email that the reporting time was listed as 60 days?

Finally registered...😴

Test Site

Location: THOMSON PROMETRIC TEST CENTER
Address: 11353 REED HARTMAN HWY

...and $210 down the drain

yeh, hopefully just an error considering what we've been through today. Cross that bridge when we come to it.

While it's good the system is working better, the four testing sites in my city all say that they are full for the testing day I need. 🙁

I keep losing it at time of payment. When I log back in I have to start over again.

Arrghhhh!
*sigh* at least you're getting that far.

I've gotten it to find me a seat x5 (and gave up counting the number of error msgs while looking), and every time I hit "reserve seat", I wind up with an error... I *so* thought I had it this last time.. 🙁

I think I did it! I got a registration confirmation page (no e-mail yet)!

yay!! go you!!

still no confirmation on front page here... got that email though... hanging onto it for dear life. might sleep with it tonight like a teddy bear.. hahaha

how long before you think the system will catch up with who's registered?

This reminds me of when AMCAS went to its the online format that we see today. People not able to submit their online AMCAS, schools scrambling to come up with their online or paper-based applications to keep the process moving along.

Anyway, I made it to the payment screen, and after I click submit, it does the whole payment processing, and then sends me back to that damn map. At the very least it said it has held my "seat", but no email confirmation, or website confirmation yet. I'm sure I've been charged like 3-4 times too..lol.

Given that AAMC has been in this business for so long, and have been "beta testing" everything for the past year, not to mention "learning" from the issues with the debut of online AMCAS back in 2002....you'd think? Having experienced this...I am wondering where my $210 is actually going..haha. Clearly not to servers and bandwith😉. Oh well such as life😳

Ok, I just got a payment confirmation on their website, however no email confirmation yet. It also says that I'm registered for that date on the MCAT registration homepage....so I guess thats a good sign. 😕

Well its been about 10-15mins so no email confirm yet.....so I guess others are in the same boat..haha. Doh!

I guess, I should be thankful that I got good date and time, albeit a secondary location. I hope everyone in here gets a good time/date and place too! :luck:

Did it take anyone a long time between getting to a confirmation page and actually getting an e-mail?

I printed out my confirmation, and logged back into my MCAT account and I'm still registered.

I was fully registered (status updated on my homepage) at around 1:30 ish, and I still haven't gotten an e-mail. Don't worry about the e-mail, it just says to bring an ID along with the print out.

Give yourself a few days, re-log into the MCAT reg system, and see if they recognize that you have a confirmed seat.

One more thing. Even if your payment doesn't appear to go through, check your email. Same thing happened to me and I did get the email; however, when I checked the site later, it told me that I was not registered. They were holding my seat though. I clicked "continue" and it took me straight to the payment page where I was able to pay. Now it says that I am registered. So make sure you check the MCAT Registration page where you first login to make sure you're all set!👍
