# of people on waitlist...

# of people accepted...

where I rank!

Thats not too much to ask, is it? 😉

gagator i thought you said you heard of some people getting off the waitlist? were they your friends?

Nope, not my friends... just heard this from someone on the inside

All I know is this is a frikkin' SLOW process! Why is their wait list not FLYING? Mercer's has been moving and they only accepted 60 students. MCG has three times that and I haven't heard solid accounts of anybody getting off. Its maddening. And I don't know WHY they don't tell you your EXACT ranking much less your general standing. What do they have to loose? It seems to me it would just encourage classes to become fixed faster. Its infuriating. I have better things to do this summer than sit by the phone hoping for a call from THREE schools in this state alone!

GADoc
how do you that the waitlist at mercer is moving. Do you know something that I don't.

Check either this thread or the "Anyone hear from Mercer" thread...someone contacted the Admission Office last week and they were told that the wait list had already seen a good bit of movement. Now what that means is subjective, but its a good sign since May 15 is still a week and a half away!

Id say a "good bit of movement" to the admissions offices is maybe 4 or 5 people in a week, considering it was April.
Also keep in mind that while Mercer's waitlist may be moving- Id bet every person that is accepted off of Mercer's waitlist chooses to remain on MCG's waitlist if they are on both. So there wouldnt be much movement on MCG's based on Mercer.

Well I'll tell you now that if I get "The Call" from Mercer, I'll drop my spot on MCG's wait list like a bad habit. So good luck to everyone.

Well I hope you get your call from Mercer ... 🙂

this is random, but does anyone know how MCGs teaching style works exactly? Is it more of a self learning if you want? Are you required to go to all classes? Are there note taking services if you learn better on your own? Just wondering....
(also how does MCG's teaching style compare to Emory's?)

I can't compare it to Emory but as I'm finishing up my pre-clinical years I can tell you a bit about mcg's teaching style. Its really a pretty traditional lecture style. Lectures are not required but are encouraged. I think the average attendance seems higher than what I've heard of at other schools but also depends on who is lecturing and what we have coming up.

We don't really have discreet individual classes but instead have modules that cover multiple subjects about the same organ system. In my experience this organ system based approach worked better in 2nd year than 1st but when I was in first year it was the first time they had tried it so it may be much better organized by now. For example 1st year you'll be taking anatomy and histology at the same time but it will really only be like taking 1 class b/c the tests are blended. And theoretically when you are learning about the heart and lungs in anatomy you will also be learning about those things in histology.

There is a notetaking service. I think I would have failed out long ago without it because I learn best when I read things and not when I hear them and so I never really go to class. So yeah it can be self-learning if you want it to be but you do have to study the lectures mostly b/c each lecturer has specific things that they think are imortant. Its like this at most schools I guess.

Good luck to all you guys. Don't get too worried yet I would expect most of the waitlist movement to happen closer to and after the 15th.

Have any of you written a letter, email or mail, to Dr Thomspon or your representative in the committee?

If so, did you get any positive response?

after my interview, i wrote thank you letters to both my interviewers, and also one addressed to the admissions committee. no response, but i don't think interviewers usually respond to all of the people they get thank you letters from. i'm sure my letter to the admissions committee sounded pretty desperate too!

Come on, no wait list news yet?

i think we'll have to wait until may 15th rolls around...

hey all,
i'm finishing up my MS1 year here at MCG so if anybody has questions about classes, books, etc. you can pm me or email me at [email protected] (fyi, don't rush out and buy all the books on the list, talk to somebody first or buy some from MS2's).

as stated earlier, there is a notetaking service.

edited: i was incorrect about all the note stuff... it's always been that you have to buy the handouts for MS2 but they give them to you in MS1

1st semester is histology, gross anatomy and embryology all in one. most tests include all 3 but a couple will just be 2/3. second semester is biochem/physiology module and then brain and behavior (neuroanatomy and psychiatry). essentials of clinical medicine (ECM) is all year.

attendance varies a lot depending on the lecturer (you get to know who you can skip and who not to miss - although there are a lot of different people who will lecture for clinical lectures). one week for ECM we had 15 people in class b/c we had a big biochem test on that friday. 15 out of 180, it was embarressing and there were some gripes from the faculty... but attendance is only "required" in anatomy lab and in ECM small group sessions, but in anatomy they don't check and you do not get graded on your dissections (althought they treatened to deduct points b/c people got pretty lazy about 3/4 through the semester, but they never did it). in ECM, you get 2% off your total grade for each unexcused small group session you miss (they are ususally every 2 weeks).

Hey gdk, congrats on being almost done with your 1st year. Just a note on 2nd year notes. Technically we don't actually buy them. They are provided online and you can print them out to take to class if you want. My class decided to have a handout service (it hadn't been done before) that was student run where you pay to have the notes printed off for you but it was difficult for those who ran it and tough to keep organized. Plus you had to go to class to get the notes which works for some, not so much for me. I don't know if future classes will have this or not.

just checking if anybody has heard anything, directly or indirectly!

Let me congratulate you to bubbleyum. I hope to hear something too, but it probably won't happen before I become $2000 poorer on Monday!

Congrats to Bubbleyum, hopefully more of us hear soon, from what I gather though, most movement is in early June.

Holy crap, Linda DeVaughn just called me...I'm in! I am in complete shock right now. I had almost signed MCG off the list completely. I will be joining you all in the fall.

see, i told you she was calling people this week! congratulations!!

more :luck: to those still waiting...

Thanks. I guess the third time IS the charm! To people still waiting, if it is your dream, don't give up. I feel like I can be a motivational speaker now about following your dreams even if it seems like you'll never make it.

congrats eggy....see you in august!

Congrats, bubbleyum. Didn't I tell you not to be so hard on yourself after your interview? And see what happened... You got in.

Congrats to both Eggy and bubbleyum. I was very impressed with MCG when I visited their campus for my interview. Certainly a fine school. I imagine that if I get the call from Mercer or MCG I'll cry. haha.

Received my M.D. today from MCG. Drunk right now. In 4 years you all will be here. Have fun, and good luck with the long journey, or let me quote Dr. Fincher "marathon", ahead. You will know what I mean when you hear her speech during orientation. Later peeps.

thanks vwhan! seriously, i was surprised when i got the call after sitting on the waitlist 2 weeks. the waitlist letter in the mails really made me feel like it was all over, cause i kept thinking about how horrible my interviews were. aghh!! still makes me shudder. wonder if i'll have to see my interviewers again when i start school, and if they'll remember me at all? probably not, they interview tons of ppl i'm sure! hopefully.
