It’s no secret that we also have crappy starting associate pay. That and the academics making even worse money than the associates creates a wide range. There’s really 3 tiers.

- Academics, VA, early PP associates, some PE associates
- Hospital employed, PP associates about to buy in, other PE associates, part time PP owners
- Full time PP owners

This also varies based on subspecialty in terms of what the numbers wind up being, with retina usually at the top. (This means if you ever invite me to a meeting, I’ll buy the drinks if the reps don’t.)

I think the ranges they quote might be vaguely correct, but I don’t know the general eye market like I do with retina. Likely sampling bias and low numbers makes that site interesting but far from definitive like most salary surveys.
