Hi,

I feel like I need some help with therapy as I would like to control my thoughts and reactions to things better (dealing with a lot of stress and anxiety in both personal life and studies). I am in my second year in a CC and I will transfer to a 4 year cycle of 2019. I think CBT will help with me with negative down spiraling that I am falling into. I was wondering if anybody knows if CBT is offered at CC’s and if they keep a record of the therapy sessions that then could potentially hurt my changes of being accepted in med schools? I am not originally from the us (gained citizenship though) so I don’t know what rights of privacy I have. I would feel more comfortable opening up to a therapist if I knew it wouldn’t come back to hunt me later on.
Thank you.

A better question is whether your CC offers CBT. Why not call them and ask what sort of counseling services are offered or look at their website? You can also drop by and ask for a written copy of their confidentiality policy.

In general, yes, records will be kept of your sessions. It is required that a copy of the confidentiality policy be provided to you. Medical schools will not have access to your mental health information without your written consent and you have no obligation to inform them of your mental health history.
