After reading all the posts from out of state students regarding interviews at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, I got an email today from MSU COM asking me for an interview. I was truly shocked and pleased and will try to schedule my MSU COM interview with my MSU CHM (MD program) interview for back to back days if possible. I know that MSU CHM interviews on Thursdays. Does anyone know when MSU COM interviews applicants? Any advice on interviews from MSU COM or MSU CHM? Please post your comments here. I would appreciate any assistance on this matter. Thanks.

I think interview offers right now are a crap-shoot. The schools are trying to fill in a few remaining gaps and are basically offering waitlist spots. This doesn't mean necessarily that you don't have a chance, but if you haven't been accepted somewhere yet I think you need to regroup and plan your application for next year.

Well as of late december i was told that MSU was 3 weeks behind and had 1/2 their class full....I still think we have a pretty good shot....oh and also i checked the usnews and the stats and it said that in the year 2001:

Total: 1,692 191 184 125
In state: 444 165 158 112
Out of state: 1,248 26 26 13

So I think we have a pretty good chance still...The acceptance rate post interview is great!

true, but only 2.08% of those who applied (out-of-state) were offered interviews. Not great odds. As for MSU, it seems as though they accept you from your application and they interview you to make sure you are who you say you are. I think that they are one of the exceptions. Good luck though to those of you still floating out there in med school limbo.

I just found out that I was offered an interview today too! I am also an out-of-stater (from Oregon) and am shocked (and pleased) to see the stats from US NEWS. What do people think of MSUCOM? Is it worth the trip? I already have some acceptances, so I am wondering if I should even go to the interview. Although it is one of my top choices, so I guess I just answered my own question.

It's actualy my cousin who is applying to MSU college of human medicine, he is visiting from michigan. His stats are a 3.49 GPA and a 28 MCAT and the admission office still has him on hold for a secondary since last year. He checked just yesterday, and a secretary from the admissions office told him that he would have a better chance if he mailed his recomendations letter now and a letter explaining all what he had done since he graduated. He graduated last year from U of M annarbor with honors in biochemistry and a minor in physics. plus he is a michigan resident. So what are your stats? and why do you want to know, any advice?

the reason i wanted to know is because the advice would depend on the branch of msu you or your cousin would be applying to, whether it is the chm or com. since your cousin is from michigan, i would think that they would prefer in-staters over out of staters like myself since it is a state supported school. a good way to gauge your qualifications for msu chm is to go to thier website (www.chm.msu.edu) and click on "considering on applying." There is a whole section on MCAT's, EC's, grades, work experiences and personal qualities that the school looks for. Your cousin's stats look really good and I wish you and him the best of luck in the application process. If I can be of more help, please let me know. Good luck!

Probably worth the trip, but tuition is almost forty thousand a year for out of staters. I believe it's pretty expensive for in staters as well, but not sure.

Why does MSUCOM bother to interview people if they are going to accept them anyway? Most other schools use the interview to get a feel for "people skills", communication ability and personality, whereas the interview process at MSUCOM seems like a formality... something's not right about that.

This is from one year. I'm sure they have interviewed someone who had 5 eyes or something and got scared and denied him (or her).
