Have finals that week, ill see how this works out

I just got an interview for 12/12! Thats in about 2 weeks...I'm pretty nervous. Did anyone else get an interview on that date too?? I'll be flying in from Atlanta

I'm coming from Atlanta for the same interview! Wow didn't expect someone else from Atlanta 🙂

Just submitted phamrcas yesterday, how long does it take before i get the supplemental application?

You will have to wait for PharmCAS to verify your application. Their site says this can take up to 4 or 5 weeks. After that, they will send your application to your designated schools. It took MWU 3 work days to send me the supplemental after PharmCAS showed my application as "mailed."

For those who already interviewed, do you think that a group interview is harder than a one-on-one interview?

I don't think it's too late. They have a lot of interview dates in January & February. jkong posted these earlier in the thread. She is a PS2 at MWU-CCP

There was a short essay about professionalism and one about how your experiences have prepared you for pharmacy school. And a resume/CV upload also

I received the alternate list letter 🙁 I wonder what the steps are now. Should I still send in my final transcripts even though my Prereqs are done already? I wonder when they start pulling from the list

At the interview, they said that you can send additional LOR to make your application better. They also said that the AdCom will review/accept some of the applicants on the alternate list at every meeting they have. So I would say to do anything you can in order to make your application better in any way! They also will be accepting students up until the first week of classes in September 2013! Don't lose hope 🙂

never mind, found answers from last year's thread!

I actually liked it a bit better. I had the chance to see what others were saying and doing as well as how the interviewers reacted to their responses. Feeding off the body language of some of my fellow applicants helped me be more confident in what I was saying and being in a group seemed to be less overwhelming. I also liked hearing the questions the other applicants asked the interviewers...they asked some of the same questions I had but had forgotten about.

Im aware. Most of the replies in there are dated. This thread is for 2017, meaning everyones interviews are RECENT, hence the reason im asking in this thread.

The format and list of interview questions do not change, at least for the past 3 years of my experience.

But yes, you do sit in a circle with 1-2 faculty members with 4-6 other interviewing candidates. The faculty members have a list of possible interview questions and they ask the group. One by one you answer and/or contribute

current student here. congrats to all those that have been accepted! let me know if you guys have questions.

for current students, which on-campus housing do you recommend? I would like a single bed with shared bathroom... (possibly traditional or red wood 1)

I was thinking if you guys can give me some suggestion.

I got accepted to Roosevelt University (3 years, 132K tuition)
Midwestern (4 years, 142k tuition, accredited for 20 years)
Chicago State (4 years, 80k, accredited for about 6 months now)

I am leaning towards roosevelt because its 3 years. But I am not sure yet. I have to accept an offer in next 3 weeks.

definitely midwestern

I vote midwestern, too!

I would say you have a choice between Chicago State and Midwestern if money is a problem.... but I think the opportunities at Midwestern are definitely worth the extra moolah.

I interviewed on Nov.7 and i thought my interview went awesome compared to the rest if my group. I havent gotten any email about being accepted, deffered or wait listed. Not sure whats going on with my application.

you should check the student portal. maybe u didn't get the email but if you're accepted you'll see "accepted student checklist" on your portal

I also interviewed on November 7th and haven't heard anything or seen any change to the portal.

I called the school this past Friday and asked them basically what gives... and the lady told me that they are done sending out acceptance emails for the Nov 7th group, and that normal mail was being sent out that day.

So, im assuming those who haven't heard from the Nov 7th group, are going to be receiving a letter in the mail stating either declined admission or waitlisted information 🙁

Is anyone flying out of LAX to the Midwestern Interview?😳

My portal has a checklist of classes i still need to take.

What opportunities are u talking about? Interview didnt attract me as much.still I do want to go there but its extra money and extra year. I m so confused. its 142k excluding food gas books etc. chicago state area doesnt seem to be safe school.looks so old and weird.. Its cheap $80k.

It's been exactly one month since the Nov. 7 interview and still no decision made. No letters received and no portal changes. How many other people are still in this boat?

I interviewed November 7th also. I called admissions and it seems as though if you have not received an email yet, then there is a paper mail coming by the end of next week. And it is a rejection letter. My stats are pretty good and the interview went well, not sure what the issue was. Maybe because they think I will chose UIC as first choice.

I doubt it will be a rejection. It will most likely be a waitlist. But let me know if I'm wrong

I don't understand it. My interview went so awesome on Nov.7th. Maybe my stats werent as good as others but why would they email me for an interview if my stats werent good. I would think that they liked my stats which is why i got the interview. Maybe it was predetermined that people go on the waitlist regardless of how well you do on the interview so they have you as an alternate.

Midwestern gives interviews to whoever that meets their minimum and does their supplementary on time. I personally don't think they look at each applicant one by one before handing out interviews. Thats why they interview over 700 people. I know this isn't good news to u and it certainly made me mad when I sat there in the break room during the interview day. The lady said if u meet the minimum and completed the supp, then that's why u r here. I didn't think I would get in but I did. Don't be sad until u find out for sure. MWU is kinda slow at notifying their students.

No one gives a rejection letter. It's always alternate list or waiting list. Which to me are the same. I would be surprised to see someone get a rejection letter after an interview. I've never seen that before nor heard of it before.

This post is to help interviewees who are willing to articulate answers that the school is looking for.

First off, I believed I am well-qualified to study pharmacy and confident of my own talents. However, as a school, Midwestern didn't find what they were looking for in me. I concluded that I was rejected for two main reasons:

-I did not prioritize stating that MYU was my school of choice. I pretty much failed this question, but until now, I didn't believe that it would make or break a decision.
(The interviewer actually asked me what school I went to and when I said UIC third year, I'm pretty sure she was able to realize that this school is a backup)

-I do not have much college involvement during undergrad, partly due to long commutes and alcohol.

This is only comparative information in which I have judged this school. Do not sympathize; as I have stated earlier, this school was indeed a back-up and UIC appeals for more case studies and self-sufficiency and will also save you a ton of money. As a ranked pharmacy school, UIC is expected to have some of the most brilliant minds in pharmaceutics. I'm not sure how Midwestern compares. While I do feel it is a bit arrogant to not email the finalized status of an applicant who spent the time and money to apply to their school, I respect the decision the adcoms made. However, they really did lose a promising student whether they saw it in me or not should I have chosen to go to MYU.
Anyways, the stats they stated for the average accepted student is 3.2 GPA and 61 PCAT. My GPA is 3.3 Preq GPA all UIC, 81 PCAT and about 150 pharmacy volunteer hours, so there is obviously more that they are looking for. With over 1600 applicants, it is understandable that they would prioritize those who have MYU as their first choice. Also as someone else said earlier, they do take involvement in the community and faculty seriously. Extracurriculars during college is their thing. There really is more of a community feel at MYU and it is in your best interest that you bring it up as a reason why the school appeals to you.

Good luck to all applicants and keep this in mind when you go interview.

Clearly "MYU" is not your first choice since it's actually "MWU" also, props for a 3.3 GPA at UIC....their undergrad is a nightmare of horrible TA's IMO

Hi I just got my acceptance letter in the mail today and have a couple of questions. First, near the end of the letter it says something about providing a copy of a valid illinois pharmacy technician license and a website (www.dpr.state.il.us) for the application. I do not have this license and when I called admissions they said there is no additional certification needed. This is confusing and hope someone can help me out. Also, that website does not work and will not load?

I also have a question about deposits. I havn't submitted my deposit yet but from reading other posts, we have to order our laptop after we put down the deposit? What happens if we decide not to attend midwestern? The deposit is lost? Are we charged for the laptop?

I received a letter in the mail today saying I am on the alternate list. 🙁

Interviewing Jan 9th! 🙂 Kinda wanted interview invite for next week. Nothing to complain about though.

This sure diminishes some of my optimism, lol.

About the license...

Anyone can get a license. It is just a matter of going online, putting your information in, and paying the (40$ I believe?) fee.

Lol...i was in the same boat. All the other schools that i've interviewed with actually weaved out students before handing out invites...so i felt really special and confident when going to the interview. The hard part of getting into pharmacy school is getting the interview...but in my opinion, it's the opposite at MWU CCP. It's easy to get an interview, but the interview is hard in the sense that you have to make yourself stand out among all the rest.

Perhaps that's how MWUCCP intends it to be so they get a variety and diverse student population...not just all the smart ones. But once you're in...it's quite an amazing feeling. I've gone from thinking..."why am i here" to.."wow..im here?"

Is it too late to take the PCAT for the first time in Jan. ?

"Applicants are advised to take the PCAT in July 2012 or September 2012. We can not guarantee that full consideration will be given to applicants who take the PCAT for the 1st time in January 2013."

straight from pharmcas

Yeah, you're absolutely right on and thats why they do group interviews so they can do more people at once because everyone gets an interview. I cant even stress enough how awesome my interview was compared to the other 4 interviewees that did the group interview with me. Getting the interview doesnt matter unless your stats are what they are looking for. I think its predetermined for this school which is unfortunate because paying for the travel and hotel is annoying

I agree with you. As long as your stats meet the minimum then you'll get an interview. I also had an awesome interview and I think that's why i got in. But not only an awesome interview will get you in...you have to have competitive scores too. So in a way...for those people that JUST meet the minimum, they might be excited about getting an interview and they waste money on air and travel for the interview not knowing that they are just the school's backup. So they get put on the alternate list or waiting list anyways.

So basically the break down is this...
Competitive scores + good interview = acceptance
Competitive scores + bad interview = waiting list
Semi competitive scores + Good interview = acceptance
Semi competitive scores + bad interview = waiting list
Non-competitve scores + good interview = waiting list
Non-competitive scores + bad interivew = waiting list (nice way of saying rejected but you're way at the end of the list)

Keep in mind they look at your scores after the interview..meaning that no one has even seen your stats prior to giving you an interview. I may even speculate that the computer sorts and eliminate people that don't meet their minimum. So basically when you walk into the interview no one is equal. (my opinion..please dont kill me)
I could be completely wrong because MWU said that they accept 400/700 interviewees. This is just my opinion, but I'm almost certain on this.
