Midwestern, Glendale 2012 class

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I know I sound impatient, haha, but I've been running a tight schedule these past two weeks so I needed to make it official before I changed my itineraries around.

Not impatient at all, I think we are all waiting for that call since 2 fridays ago LOL.

So is Midwestern your top choice? I called them too late, past 4:30PM, shall dial their digits manana while chilling at the airport.

Nah no call, was kind of disappointed in that but oh well. Now I just have to worry about finishing up this semester. I missed the last 2 straight weeks of classes at 3 different interviews and happened to miss 3 midterms last week so now I have to make up all of them this week! Hooray!!! Hoping that I can just drop my microbiology course after I speak with admissions because I'm going f'ing crazy with all this stress!!!

Thanks, wanttobepharm (or gonnabepharm 🙂) and xtsukiyox for your replies! I'm glad to hear it's not hot and HUMID. Any more feedback anyone can provide for the interview itself?? This is my first interview, and I'm super nervous. 😳

yay, I scheduled my interview for the 21st! I never got an email from them but after I saw other people were getting interviews I logged on and it said I could schedule an interview. Thought it was weird they didn't inform me by email. Stats: m/s 4.00 total 3.86 Pcat: 58 - so low 🙁 hope this doesn't hurt my chance.

You will be sitting at the same table as the interviewers. Personally, I was a little surprised because I thought I would be further away. Make sure your breath is fresh! 😀

Midwestern was my first interview as well.
People always tell you to be yourself, and you think "how the heck am I supposed to do that when they are evaluating me to determine the rest of my life?!?!"

To be honest, you can be as nervous as you want but these interviewers know exactly how to get you to show your true character, so might as well just go with the flow and relax a little. After a while it may turn into a chatting atmosphere and you won't feel as nervous. After all, they are not there to judge you on how you did in school for the past four years, they are there to determine whether your character is a good fit to be a professional. So I would say persona and genuine character will get you very positive results in interviews.

Hope my feedback helps!

Just had my Stats and English courses approved and the remaining units waived, so I'm good to go. 👍

Awesome! We both got good news today, stupid microbiology teacher wouldn't let me catch up after my 2 weeks missed for interviews so they said it was perfectly ok to drop it, woo woo!

Is this under Pre-accepted, interview scheduling tab on your midwestern account? So they don't call or email you to lelt you know?!!

I don't think they usually call, but an email is normal. I was just being impatient and didn't give them a chance.
It was right there in the center of the portal homepage.
A button marked "Interview Scheduling" or similar. I clicked it and scheduled it right away, so of course it is gone now.

If it is there, you won't be able to miss it. Keep checking once a day or so.
:xf:

I thought I had a lot of experience with my 6 years in pharmacy, but I'm sure I could learn a lot from you. See you on the 21st 😀

There is always something to learn. If you can't learn, you might as well be dead !
Sounds like we have a little SDN group. Hopefully we rock it like HackerPanda et al...
👍

Yeah I hope we do too :xf: I'm turning down 2 interviews to schools not so high on my list for this one. Maybe I'll ask them to reschedule me incase I don't get into MWU...

I think you should reschedule, not cancel. I did the same so that I could wait for MWU's response and then decide whether I should go to the other interviews.

Hey noob, been looking for you all morning. thanks for being MIA.

😡👎 👎 👎 👎 👎 👎 👎 👎 👎

Is this for "class of" or "accepted students?" It seems it should be "class of" - people going to MWU for sure. If not, I'll make a "class of" group.

Guize, I hate to say it, but how about you take the flirting banter to PMs? I'm all for friendly chat, but the missed calls thing is over the top. I submit it's clouding the topic.

DAYMN CHICA, elitist much? You better check yoself! 👎

... Actually, this post is a product of a bad day. Quoted myself because it's funnier, and if you're like me, you subscribed to the thread & saw the message anyway.

FB, and this thread, are just for fun. Carry on.

That close, huh? Hahah~ I'll make sure I brush my teeth that day. 😛 So it was three across from three at one table? Scared!

I know everyone always says to relax and be yourself, but I guess that really is the trick! 🙂 But you brought up a few good points, and I hope I'll keep them in mind on the interview day. Did you feel that your interview session turned into a chatting atmosphere as well? I saw that you mentioned that your group got grilled. Care to share how so?

I agree. If you've applied to other schools, don't put all your eggs in one basket, for sure. 👍

Yeah you're both right. I emailed the schools and they were kind enough to offer me different days. Still I much prefer MWU and from what I can figure out from the previous years threads you have a pretty good chance of getting in once you score the interview 👍

My day is coming up... hope I don't blow it

Wow, I am glad you clarified this, I thought I had a stroke or something :scared:.

Sorry you had a bad day, hope tomorrow will be better.

You won't blow it. Positive attitude. I agree w/the others though, if you can afford to make the other interviews, I would still go to them.
And yes, getting the interview is key. The majority of interviewees get in.
:luck:

Some bits of advice I got from a a prep session :
Take the water if offered, you may well want it later and then it would be akward to break the flow to get some. Also, it can buy you a few seconds to organize your thoughts. But also, it is OK to say " Wow, thats a good question, may I think about that for a second ?". Being thoughtful is good. Just don't stall too long.
The panel I had last year was really pleasant and low stress. Don't make yourself crazy, you really have done all the hard stuff already.
😎

To be honest, taking a sip of water is a very good idea lol.
Seen that trick when I interviewed with another guy and he pulled that trick off so well.

SDN is getting a major site upgrade. Bad news! SDN will be offline intermittently Thursday while we make the changes,

What? What do we do then? I am addicted!😀

Yeah, I hit the trifecta: egotistical, pretentious, and frankly, rude.

Thanks Pharmassist, me too. I know once this week is over, it'll be better, at least.

Sorry again wannabe & hacker. 😳

Dude, I passed out water to anyone who wanted it right before the 10 second fire drill prior to the interview. I took one of those little bitty water bottles from their fridge into the room, and so did another guy interviewing with me. Gave me something to do with my hands in between questions, but I was totally prepared to do the sip of water thing.

As you wrap up your answer, especially if you've gone particularly far afield (guilty!), you may consider repeating the question back - something like "so the humbling experience I had at the low-cost medical clinic directly influenced my decision to go into healthcare." I had to do that twice to make sure I completely (and clearly/directly) answered the question.

ETA: Yes, chill out as best you can before & during the interview. The super stressed thing just "works" for some people - I was worried we'd have to peel hackerpanda off the ceiling. But, just tell yourself, it's not the end of the world, it's important but not THAT important. It really is true, especially at MWU, you're interviewing them as much as they're interviewing you.

If you have the chance, sit in the middle. That way you're almost guaranteed they won't start with you for the first question. They started on their right (next to the door) on mine - I heard other groups started on the interviewers' lefts (on the far end) on others.

lol no worries

Missed an eventful day! Anyways you all will do great! Trust me, you can't possibly be as nervous as I was. I was on the interview list as going by myself so I sat there thinking that I did something wrong or that I would fail. Then after all that my name was called... along with someone else's and everything was better. Of course the first question is ALWAYS why pharmacy and if you can't answer that then there is no reason to go to an accelerated pharmacy school or yet their interview! Anyways not to be negative there but you will all do great. I wasn't grilled by any questions, never looked at wrong or given any negative response for any of my answers. At very first the dean of admissions was intimidating (was the head of my panel, there were 3 panels- different interviewers) but he started joking with me about some of my hobbies and I knew that I had it. Put your best foot forward and just remember to look in the interviewer's (especially the one who asked the question) eyes when you answer their question. Anyways go CARDS!!!

I was sipping on a couple of those little water bottles after the tour of the campus.

After the interview at the cafeteria was cool, and I am glad I stuck around for it since I was planning to leave right after the interview, but my ride had not arrived yet.

The food they served was, well, not what you would expect a health conscious school or a school of future health professionals to be eating. But the chat with the 3rd year Pharms was very valuable. 👍

It's cool.

I would've responded earlier but I wasn't sure how to go about it. Wannabe and I are just friends. We both actually have significant others. lol

Yeah, my self-censor was apparently off. Can I say douche on SDN...? WTH was my problem?

You could have fooled me - I was rooting for you guys. 😛

PS: They have a salad bar & they were serving mongolian BBQ-style stir fry the day I went, so I was happy with the lunch. They do have typical burgers & fries & pizza, too, but I guess you gotta serve the crowd pleasers to college kids.

PROTIP: Get a lunch tray, even though few people do, so you don't have to balance that salad with the bright orange dressing right next to your suit when you get a drink.

Haha I admit I can come off too friendly at times. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I just got my acceptance letter in the mail today.

It's a small letter (only 2 pages in the white envelope). So don't freak out automatically if you get the small letter instead of the big packet envelope.
