Midwestern, Glendale 2012 class

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Well, I am nervous to be placed back on hold! I interviewed knowing that I may have to retake the PCAT in January. My official PCAT score from September came today and the school should get it pretty quick. They said they would look at both PCAT scores to make sure that I was "capable" in all subjects before making a decision. My first test I didn't finish the Math and Chemistry sections and it dropped my composite to 29. But, my other scores were pretty good/solid. BUT, during my second test I was so stressed out about the Math and Chemistry that I dropped my other subjects overall scores, but dramatically improved the Math and Chemistry, ending up with a 31.

I hate that test because I am not a strong test taker AT ALL, and worry that I have to go through it again. When I took practice tests I scored in the 70's and 80's, so I don't know how to calm my nerves during the exam to get through it with an okay score. 🙁

I guess anything is possible, but the unknown is killing me. At least I got the interview out of the way.

Happy Waiting!

There's a specific section on SDN for PCAT related questions and a lot of good advice from ppls who received a 99% composite. If you are retaking it, I do suggest you take a peek at that.

Also, were your practice tests the 3 real PCAT tests? Did you take them timed? I find those tests to be more similar to the actual PCAT. I have taken practice tests from other sources and I find them to be a lot easier in certain sections.

If you want, I can email you some tips as well. I will admit I didn't get a 99% composite but I did get 93% on the September test. I also consider myself to be a pretty bad multiple choice test taker and a nervous wreck when it comes to anything important. 😳

Hey hackerpanda... What lies on the bottom of the sea and twitches? 😛

starcake, I scored a 94 comp on PCAT, and I think I have a list of tips I wrote saved somewhere. Shoot me a PM if you want 'em. Hopefully the admissions dept will let you know soon if you need to retake or not. I believe JenAthay said in the PharmCAS thread that September scores should go out to the schools on Monday.

Thanks both of you! I will have to take some time to read through the PCAT discussion. I sent you both a personal message.

I have a overall 3.6 GPA, with a BS in Health Science. My Pharmcas GPA is a 3.3 and my science GPA is a 2.9. Not amazing, but I also had a several scholarships for school, 7 years experience working as a pharmacist, and my LORs are REALLY good from well known pharmacists in Arizona. I was origianlly placed on hold with Midwestern and sat on hold for an entire month. At that point I figured I had to do something to stand out. I had met with the Associate Dean last spring before I even offically decided to apply to pharmacy at all. Then, I also have a Midwestern professor that sits on a committee for my current job (although I don't know him personally) so I reached out to him and had a great converstation for about 30 mintues. At the end he let me know that he is on the admissions committee and was unable to offer any unoffical support, but suggested I send the Associate Dean a follow-up email: 1. reminding him of who I am and 2. that I understand I have a low PCAT but felt my application was solid and 3. to please update my file that I will be taking the PCAT again in January. I sent that at 8:30pm and 10:30am the Associate Dean emailed me back saying they are going to interview me, but that I will more then likely need to retake the PCAT and get a little better of a score. What I was worried about most is that I knew my secod test wasn't any better then my first, but I didn't want to get denied after they saw the second score. They were really great about not wanting me to miss out on an early interview seat just because of my PCAT. Persistance is key to standing out! (Just don't be over-bearing.) 🙂

Got accepted!!! :soexcited::soexcited:
I'd love to jump up and down with excitment but I'm at work so I gotta hold my freakin out until tonight

Hey guys!
Congrats to those who have been accepted and good luck to those that are waiting!

I have an upcoming interview on November 4 🙂

thank you for the great advice 😍 !!!!

do you know how it works if you are on hold after an interview? for example if you send them your jan scores and you've improved will they accept you right away or will you be looked at later on in the cycle?

im just trying to figure out if I should email them my interest, hopefully get an interview but still be on hold until my jan scores. or wait till i get my jan scores then get an interview then since plane tickets and everything are expensive.

thanks again and goodluck to you :xf:

Have you done your Pharmcas yet ? I would strongly suggest if you are interested in MWU-G you go ahead and apply now. They will see you are waiting on PCATs. With rolling admissions they are admitting folks all along, so it is important to get in as early in the cycle as you can. Don't wait til January to start the process.
If I have misunderstood your question- nevermind...

Congrats to you and everyone else accepted :highfive:

Even though I'm at work and supposed to be professional I think I'm about to burst with excitement and just dance in front of everyone

I know how you feel ! I found out not long before I was going to leave for the day. I wanted to tell my boss first, since he has been a big supporter, but he was in a meeting for another half hour.
Once I got into his office he figured it out by the smile on my face !

Congrats Pharmassist and everyone else that found out today! There's a strong chance that I'll be seeing you in June 😉

Been gone for couple days, let's see if I can keep up.

Come join us on Facebook 😀: http://www.facebook.com/groups/MWUCPG2015/

There's a roll call thread in the Pre-Pharm forum, if you like that sort of thing. 😎

Hey guys!

Hey there! Welcome to SDN. PS, good luck on your interview!

Google tells me it's a nervous wreck.

Aw, Google ruined it. OK then, less applicable, but... What goes "clop clop clop BANG BANG clop clop clop"?

Hey accepted peeps or up-coming interviewers:

I've been bugging hackerpanda for a bit about this and I TRIED to find as much info as I can but I just can't seem to get what I need.

Does MWU have any student activities? Other schools always have health fairs, student social events, random activities, but when I was there it was exam day so the campus was REALLY DEAD. If any of you know any details about the social life/campus student life, please share.

EDITED: I dont mean like parties or anything. Mostly concern about if students involvements on campus basically. Any sort of activities for students to bond and build professional relationships type of stuff.

Dude, it was 105 outside on the day you went, plus it was a testing week. I don't think we would have seen anything in the commons because of the weather. Now, when it starts getting into the 90s, it's more humane to put someone at a booth or something outside.

One of the current students said it was really easy to be involved with stuff. They make announcements before class to each "section" so you know what's going on that week. They have the "typical" pharmacy student associations present. Also, I believe they said they do have a volleyball & basketball team.

This isn't very current, but when my husband was there, there were things pretty frequently. Parties too, of course, but other networking opportunities. They were pretty dedicated to group work too, back then at least.
I think they try to avoid scheduling stuff when interviews are on, but I dunno.

Still seem to be. From what I heard, you get assigned to a small group when you begin, and that's your group throughout the pharma program. (You also get assigned to a section, or whatever they call it, because I think only ~50 people can fit in the lecture hall at a time.)

That would make sense to me - I like this hypothesis. It's already kind of crazy having a bunch of peeps who look like they're going to a funeral walking around campus & tying up the faculty.

Might also have to do with the time of year - the year's classes had only been going for 3 months, so the clubs were probably still getting organized & hadn't had a chance to plan big events yet.

My husband got to be very good friends with most of his group. They all really got along well. Two of them got married !

Small groups eh? I havent heard of this before. What's the purpose? Studying/support?

funeral lol

I just told you a bunch of top secret MWU stuff on FB chat. HATER.

thanks amiga

hate it as in the environment wasn't friendly or as in they asked hard questions?
please clarify !!!!!!:scared:

PM joo

Thank you! I am a bit nervous but I have some time to get that over with xD

dont be nervous! or you'll be bouncing off the wall like hackerpanda

So, I had a couple of different questions and decided to not multi-quote.

I did already interview. I was originally on hold and send Mike Dietrich and email letting him know that I knew what was wrong with my application but that I was retaking the PCAT and could he update my file. He then emailed me back and told me he was giving me an early interview seat.

He told me when we met last spring that often times they are willing to give an early interview seat to those waiting to RE-take the PCAT. So, basically I am back on hold waiting for acceptance, based off the January PCAT score. If you wait until you take the PCAT in January the interview seats are going to be filled-up. I remember Mike showed me his calender from last year and the interview seats during Oct, Nov, & Dec were nearly empty and they had more days then needed on hold for interviews. But, the Jan and Feb seats were maxed out! So, if you can get an early seat it is to your benefit because once they see your score it can be an automatic acceptance....no more waiting for an interview.

And wanttobepharm - no, we didn't meet, or not that I know of! 🙂

oh okay, because i also met this girl at touro that applied to midwestern and worked with midwestern pharmacy. made the connection, but obviously the wrong one. i now feel dumb🙁

dont be nervous! or you'll be bouncing off the wall like hackerpanda[/QUOTE]

I should be perfectly fine come interview day. I'm gaining confidence with each passing day and should not be nervous at all!

you might be a little nervous when going into the interview seeing so many people in a tiny little room. but once you start talking, nerves gone.

You'll do great 👍

It's so quiet here! Very uncharacteristic of this group!

Anyways, congrats to everyone who made it in! And good luck to everyone interviewing! 🙂
