Just checked MWU net... ive been accepted to Glendale! Not sure if I will get any other offers, not sure if I will accept any others, but I will be accepting this offer either way (don't even have any other interviews set up right now)

How do you know that you were accepted? Did it explicitly say that somewhere or was it just that the Accepted Student Checklist was accessible? The latter is true for me I just don't know whether or not that means anything...

...And CONGRATS!!!

I'm pretty darn sure that means you're in! Congrats!

Welcome wildspuds !
It is shaping up to be an interesting year.

Oh, you too prefarm and pharmacy945 !

Where did it say that? All I could find is that the medication needs to be medically necessary to treat a sickness or injury during the coverage year. That would include ongoing maintenance drugs. I was considering going with the Aetna plan (I have another option), but if it won't cover an ongoing med, I don't know if I'd get enough use out of it to justify.

I didn't read anything specifically mentioning pre-existing. I believe what I read is (or was) pretty much right where you got the above info. I basically read between the lines. To me it's saying that if it doesn't happen while you are currently attending school, we don't cover it. Insurance companies are evil are their policy will be translated in whatever works best for them.

As for the 2014 thing.... doesn't buy me much thru 2012 and 2013.

Just to reinforce what others were saying, I checked my portal and only the Accepted Student Checklist was accessible and so I was doubtful of that too because I wanted to make sure. I patiently waited for the call and it was only hours later until I received it! The portal states the date the deposit money is due which is exactly 2 weeks for me and so you are definitely accepted! Congrats!!

I was accepted on 11/11 and still haven't got a call. I believe I got the acceptance letter a month later.

I was hoping to talk to a current student doing rotations. I have been dabbling with infomatics at my current hospital (tech work), and I was wondering how good the internships are if you want to specialize in something not strictly clinical or community health? IE: something besides working in a hospital or working at Walgreens/RiteAid? Will the school set up your rotations, or are you required to set it up yourself? (thats what I did at tech school).

I think this is clear enough, but if not, let me know and I can try to explain it a little better.

Hey guys! Im a new user but have been reading these forums for a while. I have an interview Jan 27th any tips or advice from any of you that have interviewed so far?? It's my first interview and I'm real nervous!

Thanks everyone for all your previous feedbacks!! I just interviewed today and I must say, I was quite impressed with the school and the faculties. It was a lot better than my previous interview. Now I simply have to start checking the portal every single day hoping for good news..

to ThePharmD: the dean told us that the admission committee will be meeting tomorrow and on Monday if they still need to finish it up so I think you will be hearing from them soon! Hopefully they will hurry up and finish all the December's files so they can quickly review ours!

to Pharmamamama: it was nice meeting you today and good luck on your test tomorrow!

It was nice to meet you too. Congrats on your acceptance! Hope to see you soon! =)

I personally have not done any rotations, but I do know that there is a huge variety of options. They give you a very diverse list of choices to choose from and if you by chance don't like what you see, you can find a preceptor yourself who will be willing to take you under his/her wing and talk to the school in terms of setting something up for you. Hope that helped =)

Anytime! Glad to meet you and hope to see you soon! =) Let me know if you have any other questions about anything (ie housing, etc)

This may be easier said than done, but...RELAX! The people interviewing you only want to see you succeed. As long as you show that you really want to help improve people's lives and pharmacy is a passion of yours I'm sure you will own it =) *breath!*

Hi to pharmamama or anyone who knows the answer to this quesiton!
Do you know if they offer out of state rotation sites. I know the instate university does and I was wondering if it was the same for Midwesterns college of pharmacy 🙂 A

I was looking at the tentative academic schedule for the upcoming year and it says that orientation is May 30th - June 1st and classes begin June 4th.. is that true??

Absolutely. They have tons of out of states, but do keep in mind that many others may be in your position, so the spots may fill up fast. On the other hand, if you know of a preceptor that you think will accept you for a rotation, you can let the school know and they will try to set it up for you =)

It is because they know pre-pharm is so serious we all know what to expect anyway... that or we get bored faster so they let us out early =D

Good point lol

I was looking at the roll call, quite a bit of you guys have set your destinations. 👍

How many people did the optional CV?
I feel like I should but then I'm not sure because I have so little academic awards and just an Associates degree.:scared:

Also did you have a cover letter if you did it?

No cover letter, not a job interview.
I did a CV while many others did not. Personal choice I'd say.

Only benefit of a CV is they can see it during interview (closed filed interview) so you might have more things to talk about with the interviewers vs others. But could also potentially screw you over like I did to myself...but worked out in the end so 👍

Once again, personal choice.

Screw you over? How'd you do that if you don't mind me asking... so I don't do the same 😀 I may just do it because I have to for CCP anyway. I am just worried it's going to look incredibly barren.

I did the CV. I have 7 years' work experience with the same company and several volunteer experiences to list.

No cover letter, although I did tweak some of the verbiage so it was less "business buzz word" and more geared towards qualities for pharmacy school. (I also was converting a resume to a CV.)

Turns out, the assistant dean's wife works for the same company, in the same building as me, in a department I used to work for (although she does a job function that didn't interact with mine, so I'm pretty sure I've never met her). It seemed to be a positive, though I don't think he got the information off the CV.

I intentionally referenced the experiences I had on my CV - I think adding the CV made a nice summary of the reasons I think I'm good for pharmacy school. So if my file had gone cold between when they interviewed me and when they made the decision, they could easily remember who I was. I'm of the school of thought that you make it as easy as possible for the decision maker to say "yes."

I also believe you should take any opportunity to sell yourself - but it would be a tough choice if I didn't have a lot to put on there. I think I remember that several of the accepted students did not do the CV.

Just a question was asked to my group based on my work at a pharmaceutical company and it was sort of tough and I felt bad that it was asked after the interviewer read my CV. Nothing bad, I may have exaggerated lol.

Congrats everyone who got in 🙂. I was put on alternate list =/ does anyone know about how they process the waitlist? 🙁

I did not do the CV or resume for CPG, but I did tweak my resume and submitted that for CCP. I was accepted to CPG, and its only been 3 days since I finished my supplemental at CCP, so we will not know there for a bit. Hope this helps some.

Congrats everyone who got in 🙂. I was put on alternate list =/ does anyone know about how they process the waitlist? 🙁

Alternate list basically just means waiting list. There is absolutely no ranking or order in which you are put. At the end of the selection process, people who say they will attend don't always attend MWU so what happens is if for example 12 people who say they would attend MWU decide not to, the school will randomly choose 12 people on the alternate list and call them. The first 12 to answer the phone and say "yes" are the next ones "accepted". You could be called from the alternate list any time up until orientation day even. Hope that helped.

I did not do the CV. There was nothing I could have added to it that wasn't aleady on PharmCAS. I didn't want overkill and the added chance of gramatical errors.

Per MWU Associate Dean of Admissions....not exact but the general idea.

MWU needs to call 5 people on their waitlist to get 1 yes. By the time they get to the wait list, many have already accepted invites to other schools. Then there are those who accept at MWU, get another offer, then withdraw.

So, come April, its very possible there could be 50 seats that need to be filled. To fill these seats will require about 250 people on their wait list. This means you have a very good chance at getting a call.

Those waitlisted are ranked (say from 1 - 250) and the calls are made. I do not know how their ranking works and you will never know if you are number 10 or 240. Do not call to find out, at best they wont tell you, at worst it will be bad for you.

The admission committee also regularly sifts through the waitlist. All is not lost. Hope this helps a little.

[EDIT] I noticed a discrepancy in opinions regarding ranking of waitlisters.Don't know if anything changed by my info was presented to our pre-pharm club by MWU on 11/18/11.

Thank you for the info! I really appreciate it!! 🙂 hopefully it would be good news in April for me...🙂

Interview is tomorrow! Very excited for the big day! Anyone have any last minute tips?

I was wondering if macbooks are compatible with the pharmacy program????

Relax and be yourself.
Take a sip of water before answering question is both a cool and a calming technique

I had a nightmare day dream when I saw this post, I imagined cooly taking a sip of water and then choking out of nervousness.

this reminds me...... there was a pitcher of water on the table during my interview. We were never offered it and no one dared help themselves of ask for any. after the interview we all wondering if it was a test of some kind.

yea I guess that's all I can do... and yes that is definitely easier said than done haha! Thanks for the advice! This thread gets a lot of activity I just hope there are still seats!

One of the other students interviewing with me actually poured herself a glass of water. As long as you can keep your hands steady and not spill (luckily she could!) then I'm sure it is fine to use..they did have a small stack of cups right next to it. If it was for the interviewers then I doubt it would be there, since there were more than three cups.

my honest opinion...this is not medical school interview...i think glass of water is just glass of water and meant for you to drink if youre thirsty LOL
